Having played the 10 hour trial, game definitely has some bugs and graphical mishaps, but for the scope and feel of the game overall so far, I gotta give my experience somewhere in the 8.5 range.

I've been having a blast, and I can't wait to continue playing, and I've only just gotten to the Tempest.

How ?

Are you just ignoring all the writing and backstory that NieR's Side quests offer ?

So you get little exponents of dialogue but the quest itself is still no bueno. Like I said I'm only about 5-6 hours in but I've done a good handful of quests. So, unless they change drastically within the remaining 15 hours or so...

Clearly the worst mass effect yet given the reviews. Not surprising since the game was produced in montreal and not by the original team in edmonton. Will probably buy it anyways since i am a huge me fan

The lead writer of ME2 and ME3 was the creative director though.

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
75 on Metacritic is actually really good, that means it's in the top 25% of all games ever released (along with classics like TLOU and Skyrim)! Definitely going to be my goty for 2017

When people demand something be changed because they didn't like it, instead of just evaluating and critiquing the art it is absurd. The idea of genuinely petitioning a company to change an ending in any other medium would be completely mocked.

It's only gaming where people legitimately feel they are owed an ending that lines up exactly with what they want instead of the one the people who actually created the thing chose to end it.

This is an Andromeda review thread though, not a ME3 ending thread and my original point has gone off on a separate tangent so I'll leave it at that.

That's because this is a medium that lets us have input. The entire series was built on the people playing it influencing the story. The arguments defending ME3 and saying the ending is art and shouldnt be changed never made sense to me anyway.

I understand defending the extended cut but the original ending was unacceptable. It was halfassed and unfinished, raised a ton of questions, and took away the the option many people felt their shepard would pick, to refuse. I still don't like the direction they took in extended cut, but I can respect that for at least being finished.

I just don't see a reason to play an RPG when the dialogue and VA is so utterly terrible and guaranteed meme worthy. That's the whole point of RPG's, to have a world engross you but allow you to craft your own pathways to the end. Ah well, not much is lost really.

Yea, it's not exactly enticing if they're saying the one thing I'd want an RPG to do well is not scratching that itch...

I mean.... so far they're just as bad as FFXV.

Absolutely false lol, even the more bland ones always at least have some cool or humorous dialogue attached to it. Meanwhile the most interesting sidequests in XV was what, the legendary weapons and the one that had you do the Sealed Dungeons, and you just go and kill some monsters. No story or interesting dialogue of any kind accompanied it.

this game cost $40 million

I kinda wanna buy it because christ the jank of the animations is OFF THE CHARTS

But like, this is lower than what I expected

here's a picture of Revolver Ocelot from the PS2 era that looks better than any face in andromeda

Well ACG says wait for deep sale or rent. That's all I needed to know.

Especially with Persona 5 coming out so soon. Making my decision slot easier.

Sorry Mass Effect, I wanted you to be great again. Guess I'll wait for Andromeda 2.

Going to give it a couple of days to hear more overall impressions but since I was already really struggling to justify the cost of the game for myself right now (but it's Mass Effect! ;_;) it looks likely I'll be cancelling my preorder.

The multiplayer might salvage the complete experience vs cost for me but I already have Overwatch/BF1/Rainbow Six siege sitting with too little gameplay for the cost that I don't really want to pay premium for a multiplayer atm.

Games have to fit into our lives, and that's not always fair. Mass Effect: Andromeda might've worked a decade ago on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but it doesn't work in a world that is delivering games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In this reality, BioWare's latest role-playing game is old, broken, and often boring.

Worst of all, it's going to disappoint fans of the Mass Effect series.

They will fix.

The question is whether it is worth playing after that for non-dedicated fans.

If it doesn't sell well, EA/Bioware will do the minimum effort and mostly fix the worst bugs in single player and leave the project behind with some minor dedicated MP support to foster player transactions. My guess.

Nah they're great.

I kid I kid! You're entitled to your opinion. It would be wrong of me to change it.

"Pisseth off!"

Lol references aside, I guess that's fair to say. It becomes far less tedious once you get fast travel. Frankly I realize that so long as sidequests have an interesting story to tell, I'll put up with anything.

At least they can all be completed very quickly, objectives are clear and have plenty of awesome lore and dialogue.

Puts most sidequests to shame if you ask me.Especially in the JRPG genre which generally dont handle SQs well.(see FFXV for example)

Well, yeah, I still did them all except
Reconnaissance Squad
but they were a drag even after unlocking fast travel. Easily the weakest part of the game. I wasn't going to miss out on story though, so I felt compelled to do them even though at times they felt like so much of a chore that they made me want to stop playing the game for a while. And that's with me having relatively high tolerance for that kind of stuff.

I agree that JRPGs, or even Japanese games in general, have a lot of room for improvement in the sidequest department (though from reviews it seems that Mass Effect is not the game to learn from). But Nier's stand out because the rest of the game was pretty solid.

On topic: I'm in for this. I doubt it will be a perfect experience but it seems that at least it will be unique.

As I stated earlier, this is what I find interesting about Mass Effect: Andromeda. Their last three games were arguably poor, but mainstream critics didn't seem to think so. Did they finally just catch up now? Is the game really that much worse? Does it offend in ways that are more intolerable to mainstream audiences such as production values?
Yeah, that question is actually more interesting to me than the game ;)

I am a fool and apparently can not embed an imgur gif to save my life. I was trying to link the classic shepard head spin gif, as her crazy neck movements reminded me of it.

Looks like you fixed the url, now just wrap it in IMG tags and it should embed the gif

Lol.

Know what I would love, though? A metacritic-like aggregator, but instead of simply taking the scores each outlet gives, it normalies all the scores that come from any given outlet so that they always average out to 50/100. So if an outlet's scores are normally distributed from 50-100, this aggregator would change them so they're normally distributed from 0-100. If that makes any sense. So each outlet's score for a given game is a reflection of where that outlet ranks that game relative to all other games on a full 100-point scale, and the overall "metascore" accurately reflects what percentile the game belongs to. Would be hilarious.

God damn it. Why do sci-fi games have to suffer... Deus Ex MD and now Mass Effect... come on..... Do we really need to wait for Cyberpunk to get another great masterpiece in sci fi rpg genre? Prey isnt technically an rpg but god I hope it turns out great..

MGS4, an early gen PS3 titles, animations blow this game out of the water x5000000.

A game which literally came out 9 years ago.

metal gear solid 3 which came out 13 years ago has better facial animations

I wanted to get this game because of the hilarious voice acting and animation, but my god. a 70 for a triple AAA title.
