I think the unexpected success of FFXV on XB1 gave them a lot more pull at the negotiating table when it comes to JP developed games. I could see them getting a number of late port announcements and a few day 1 release announcements for future releases.

"sucess" in US.
And do you think Falcom is going to look a main FF Us numbers on XBO to decide their strategy?

I'm wondering which studios they own can be churning at something new as we speak.
Maybe the Gears or Halo studio's have secretly split into two teams?

Didn't I hear this exact quote before? We will see what they have at E3, but as I said before, you can get JRPG's and Japanese games on board, but history and statistics show that the demographic does not care for the vast majority of these types of games. Pay $40 million for Lost Odyssey 2 exclusivity only for it to sell 80,000 units total world wide.

They have to have some AAA games at E3 that isn`t Forza, Gears of War or Halo, right? Not counting the games we already know of.

That's the golden question, isn't it.

His 1P comment is really odd to me. Everything they've been doing in the last few years point at the exact opposite direction. The direction of service-based multiplayer games.

And about Japan, yeah no. Not happening unless MS pays them big-time.

Did I miss something? What unexpected success?

What unexpected success? The PS4 version outsold the XB1 version many times over.

The split was a much much smaller margin than pretty much everyone assumed it would be. It shows there is a market for Japanese games on XB1

Which is fantastic news because they sooner these games start coming to Xbox the sooner we can stop this ridiculous dialogue of "Japanese games don't matter" as if Japanese games is some genre and not an entire segment of the development industry. Oh and hopefully it'll mean more sales/$ for JP development too. Everyone wins!

The more he talk the more I lose faith in him. I used to believe in him when he took over, but now I regret buying an xbox one.

Why can nintendo get away with releasing Mario, Pokémon and Zelda every year for the last 2 decades but Microsoft cant

Hey Rex of the following which do you think are most likely:

Tales of Berseria
Nioh
Nier 2
Persona 5
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix
Ni No Kuni 2
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Thanks in Advance!

Sorry spencer, when it comes to first party talk, you're just like Peter Molyneux.

*sigh*

because they release new IPs as well, I'm all for long living franchises but you HAVE to do other stuff as well as those.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

Why would you ever have faith in a corporate suit? His job is to get your money by any means necessary.

GG take 5 years to make Horizon, Spencer just took over Xbox around 3 years, they are rebuilding, we will see result very soon IMO.

According to Microsoft, they have State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves slated for this year.

Forza Motorsport 7 is definitely coming. Halo 6 and Gears 5 are not.

Halo 3 Anniversary is a possibility, but I feel like they would gain a lot of brownie points if they released it as a free update for TMCC instead (alongside a PC version).

Frank already shot H3A down and on NeoGAF no less. Not happening it seems. Though would make for the killer Scorpio launch title. 4k/60fps campaign, remake like 10-12 maps with the Halo 5 engine etc. We already can still play classic Halo 3 mp on Xbox 360 and on MCC on Xbox One so need to include it to save dev time and costs.

An 8:2 split in the UK was much smaller than expected?

It would be great to see Xbox getting more new great exclusives.

But talking is useless, show us the games and then we can be excited or not.

I would love to believe they have a few nice surprises at E3 but I expect for this it will be the focus on Crackdown, Stare of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves. So nothing exactly brand new there. Really don't believe this focus on first party means lots of new announcements but again, please prove me wrong.

And if not, let's hope Phil does all he can to indeed bring new IP to the console. Some much needed new names.
A reasonable expectation.

They will reveal 2 or 3 games for 2018, but I don't expect them to blow me away with a barrage of announcements.

What? Microsoft offers new IPs and several non-Gears/Halo/Forza IPs, though. Microsoft's first party strategy deserves criticism, but acting as if all they ever release are Halo, Forza and Gears is just flat out wrong.

twitter was a mistake. because you have to choose your words carefully, it makes everyone sound even more robotic and calculated when doing PR.

Of those? Tales and FFXII would probably be most likely. Nier might be a possibility if they cover the cost considering it's a PC port. Nioh is not possible as it's a Sony published game outside of Japan. Kingdom Hearts collection would make a lot of sense but I think there might be some licensing issues or something at play there. Persona 5 and No No Kuni are pretty slim as the developers behind both have a history of PlayStation exclusivity for some reason or another but I suppose they are possible.

Yes that is much better than most thought it'd be given the performance of other JP developed games on the platform not the least of which was FF Type 0.

What does Nintendo have anything to do with MS 1P games?

I expect after a console have been in the market for 3 years to start pumping out 1P games, put seems to me MS shot out there load. After Phil took over there have been alot changes and I really hope he can finnally focus on games.

By whom? At least GG existed 5 years ago, and were working on stuff. MS only has Coalition, 343, Turn 10 and Rare to build AAA games. Among them, Rare is the only one that makes new IP.

Do you propose they have been keeping a studio secret from us?

For a start there is giant chasm in quality between Nintendo's flagship series and the tattered remains of Gears, Fable and Halo.

i like your optimism...

it's like saying....xbone sold 50 units this week in japan instead of 25 units. That's a 100% increase! Xbox rebound in japan incoming!!

I mean if getting 10% of sales counts as a success I don't really know what to tell you

Splatoon was like their only new IP in a decade since pikmin while since the launch of Xbox one Microsoft had sunset overdrive, quantum break, recore, ori, d4,ryse

I want to give our games more time on stage at E3, I sometimes feel like we rush telling the story of our games at E3

so fewer games announced than before, which was already fewer than sony conferences

i don't think amount of time per game OR number of gammes is the most important factor. showing actual gameplay over cg trailers should be the priority over timing the presentations with a stopwatch or having a long list. any game they show without actual gameplay, i will assume won't come out, based on previous experience

Microsoft releases new IP's as well, but unfortunately most of them are not as successful as their legendary franchises which his probably why they stick to what's proven to sell.
