PS Vita version of Salt and Sanctuary releasing on March 28th

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/201...-rpg-salt-and-sanctuary-on-ps-vita-next-week/

Salt and Sanctuary for PS Vita marks the first Ska Studios title that, well, we didn’t make! That honor goes to Sickhead Games, the studio behind the console versions of Stardew Valley, Darkest Dungeon, and more. They’re as talented as they are overworked.

We had a small hand in the PS Vita version: nudging some HUD elements here, tightening up the camera there, tweaking an effect or two when we needed to, but our contribution on the project was pretty minimal. The fantastic, talented folks at Sickhead Games were the ones behind all of the low-level, nightmare-inducing logic that will make games like Salt and Sanctuary on PS Vita even possible.

As promised, Salt and Sanctuary will be cross-buy across PS Vita and PS4. If you bought it a year ago for PS4, congratulations: on 28th March, you’ll own it on PS Vita!

Awesome. Any word on whether it will be cross-save? Either way, will be a good excuse to finally finish everything up and go for that Platinum trophy.

Yaaaasssss!!! One of the only smaller games I had so much fun with that it was a pleasure to Platinum! I seriously have been hoping this day would come since it released on PS4. What amazing news!!

Excellent.

I played it on PS4, and didn't get on with it too well, will give it another try on Vita.

Looks like I'll finally be buying it.

If my analysis of PSN history is correct, this game has yet to have a sale, outside of a 10% discount for preordering. Maybe we'll see a small discount on today's Flash sale? Would definitely pick it up then.

Great news.

I'm hoping it's included. It would be strange not to be able to import your PS4 save, given the amount of time that's passed between releases.

Nice.

A portable is the perfect platform for this portable.

And I am always happy when there are more games for the Vita.

Pretty sure in the EU it's had a discount. I don't think i paid full rrp for it anyway..

I'm so ready!! They had been teasing a date on facebook lately with a blurred picture and people were saying it was gonna be in June, this is so much better.

Here's hoping it's a good port.

I promised that I'd do my best in order to stop people from buying this turd of a game. Even if I manage to stop one person, that'll be more than enough for me to feel well this Friday evening.

Avoid at all cost.

- Terrible art direction, although this is quite subjective. But why would you like a black/grey/white-game with models that look like something out of a children's story when the game clearly is supposed to be taken seriously?

- Unnecessarily frustrating skill system. They tried to relate to Path of Exile and/or FFX, it ended up being unimaginative and overall never felt like progressing through the tree actually did something.

- Terrible music. Who the hell thought that it was a good idea to add electric guitar ambience in a game like this?

- Combat is jittery and rolling in particular is unresponsive. This alone should be enough to reduce the games' overall score by 5.

- Boss battles become horrible after the first few. This isn't even subjective; I'm pretty sure we've all come to an agreement that the bosses end up being shit.

- Ridiculously imbalanced gameplay, with the touch of artificial difficulty being added in during the later half of the game. You could go from one map being insanely easy and two steps into the next map, enemies are broken.

Conclusion
One of the worst games I've ever had the honour to play. I hyped this game up 2 years before launch and pretty much watched most of the game being done in real time (through live streams).
Don't make a Souls-like game if you're the one and only person responsible for balance, game design and pretty much 90% of the game.

You can pretty much ignore everything here. This is a great little game, that will kick your ass like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls did when they first appeared.

I assume you're talking about North America? It's on sale in the EU right now.

I had no idea anyone felt this harshly about the game. I fell in love with it immediately. I platinumed it so hard. I just couldn't stop playing. At the end of my time with it, it rocketed to my top five games of all time list. I don't mean to be antagonistic, but I completely disagree with everything you said up above. The music especially still sticks with me which I can't say for most games.

I am impressed by their commitment to still keep developing it for the vita. I'll definitely buy it there as thanks

Awesome, was thinking about the Vita release recently, great to see they still went ahead and ported it.
I'll likely be play and beat it on that compared to PS4, great Vita support.

While I felt it was a very good game at first, the combat got old really fast and the game indeed has some problems with its controls/hurtbox. The soundtrack makes no sense like already said here.

I agree with the art, I personally don't like it. I disagree with everything else Yoshi mentioned, I liked the game a lot more than I thought I would.

I've played over 500 hours of DMC2 and consider the game good.

I haven't played this game yet - but the art style prevented me from doing so. The overt copying of Dark Souls art direction combined with truly ugly cartoonish characters like something from an edgy 2006 flash game, I just found it to be in poor taste.

It's okay to say a game is not for you and to move on. It's ridiculous that you need to try and deny sales for a game because you didn't enjoy it. And it kind of sounds like you aren't good at or don't understand these kinds of games, which is not the game's/developer's fault.

As for everyone else. This was one of the best games released last year. If you haven't already done so, BUY IT and give it a try.

I don't agree with any of this.

- Terrible art direction, although this is quite subjective. But why would you like a black/grey/white-game with models that look like something out of a children's story when the game clearly is supposed to be taken seriously?
It's minimalist, heads are a bit ugly but aside from that I thought it was fine. I didn't like it, but this really didn't bother me.

- Unnecessarily frustrating skill system. They tried to relate to Path of Exile and/or FFX, it ended up being unimaginative and overall never felt like progressing through the tree actually did something.
It spreads a lot of skills out so you likely will have to invest in other skills you wouldn't normally go for to get the ones you want. I don't think it's a bad system at all.

- Terrible music. Who the hell thought that it was a good idea to add electric guitar ambience in a game like this?
Music is extremely minimalist, but what is there I enjoyed.

- Combat is jittery and rolling in particular is unresponsive. This alone should be enough to reduce the games' overall score by 5.
Playing on PS4, I never experienced either of these issues. I thought the combat was extremely good for a 2D Souls effort, and I don't recall ever finding the dodge unresponsive in 30+ hours with the game.

- Boss battles become horrible after the first few. This isn't even subjective; I'm pretty sure we've all come to an agreement that the bosses end up being shit.
I don't agree. There's probably, what, about 20 bosses in the game, and I'd personally say a couple of them aren't any good (False Jester, maybe the Forgotten King). To suggest this is an objective fact is complete horseshit.

- Ridiculously imbalanced gameplay, with the touch of artificial difficulty being added in during the later half of the game. You could go from one map being insanely easy and two steps into the next map, enemies are broken.
I felt like the game had a pretty gradual and fair difficulty curve. Probably its 'git gud' area is the Red Hall of Cages which can be bastard hard, but you can unlock a shortcut like you can in many levels, and if you can deal with this level you can deal with pretty much anything in the second half of the game.

Conclusion

On the contrary is was my favourite indie game of last year and perhaps my GotY overall. I thought it was an excellent approximation of Dark Souls in 2D, but with enough of its own character to not see like a simple clone, and executed with more precision and success than I had expected from a small indie dev.

EDIT -
I hyped this game up 2 years before launch and pretty much watched most of the game being done in real time (through live streams).

Wait, what do you mean by this - have you actually played the game?

Of course. They did livestream the development of the game, and I followed it religiously. I obviously bought the game day 1.

Posting these responses to posts that have a negative opinion about a game always surprise me on NeoGAF. The guy has an opinion, and a well written one too. Not seeing the issue here.

This scares me off more than anything Yoshi wrote.....

I'll probably buy it just to support the Vita.
