I promised that I'd do my best in order to stop people from buying this turd of a game. Even if I manage to stop one person, that'll be more than enough for me to feel well this Friday evening.

Avoid at all cost.

- Terrible art direction, although this is quite subjective. But why would you like a black/grey/white-game with models that look like something out of a children's story when the game clearly is supposed to be taken seriously?

- Unnecessarily frustrating skill system. They tried to relate to Path of Exile and/or FFX, it ended up being unimaginative and overall never felt like progressing through the tree actually did something.

- Terrible music. Who the hell thought that it was a good idea to add electric guitar ambience in a game like this?

- Combat is jittery and rolling in particular is unresponsive. This alone should be enough to reduce the games' overall score by 5.

- Boss battles become horrible after the first few. This isn't even subjective; I'm pretty sure we've all come to an agreement that the bosses end up being shit.

- Ridiculously imbalanced gameplay, with the touch of artificial difficulty being added in during the later half of the game. You could go from one map being insanely easy and two steps into the next map, enemies are broken.

Conclusion
One of the worst games I've ever had the honour to play. I hyped this game up 2 years before launch and pretty much watched most of the game being done in real time (through live streams).
Don't make a Souls-like game if you're the one and only person responsible for balance, game design and pretty much 90% of the game.

I surely do hope you have a decent Friday evening nonetheless, but I believe in your in the minority on this.

YAY!

Will have to (unintentionally) double dip I guess. I bought the game on my EU account when it came out as the JPN release came later.

You didn't like the game. Many (myself included) really enjoyed it. I'd suggest people read this post but also read the positive assessments of the game...of which there are far more.

is this game Metroidvania or more like a 2d souls? Interested but not sure if buy. Maybe if it was crossbuy with PS4

It is crossbuy with PS4 though.

And it's a Metroidvania at heart (i.e. you'll see places you can't get to until you unlock something else), with a lot of the systems and difficulty of Souls

It's a mix of both. The majority of the game is a 2D Soulslike with the emphasis on combat and bosses, but it has a lot of Metroidvania elements with its platforming and several abilities you get to help navigate, like an air-dash.

I've had this game in my wishlist waiting for a sale and it never, ever goes on sale.

Right now it's just a personal battle of stubbornness to see who cracks first. Hopefully the launch might include one?

Meh.

I loved every inch about it - the good and the bad.

As for your conclusion, I'd like to address the bolded bit, I'm no game designer but I would imagine IF someone did all that work themselves its a solid indicator that they've put a lot of blood, sweat and tears and their OWN MONEY into making what is undoubtedly a labour of love - which what a lot of indie games are and what this game is.

It's taken them so long to port this to vita, I hope it ends up being worth it to them. I wasn't a big fan but I might try and replay it on the vita.

Great game that seems like a perfect fit for a portable machine. I didn't care for it at all when it launched and the character art was off-putting. Bought it on a whim after watching a super best friend episode and played it exclusively for 2-3 days to completion. Souls fans should definitely give it a try.

Hehe, well let me say I pretty much disagree with most everything that you've written here. I really enjoyed my time with S&S on the PS4 and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Dark Souls and 2D metroidvania type games.

I liked the ambiance, I liked the combat and I really, really liked the music.

This sounds like he took his dislike for the game personally and is very petty as well.

If you're interested in this game, I would give it a shot, as its pretty good, especially if you consider it was made by 2 people.

Please don't let one post dissuade you from playing S&S. An objectively good game.

This scares me off more than anything Yoshi wrote.....

I'll probably buy it just to support the Vita.

Nah, it's perfectly balanced, Only had issues with one boss since his weakness wasn't clear.

Anyway, game is one of 2016 GOTYs. Some of yoshichan points are founded, but the edge in the post is ridiculous.

Buy it. Hard.

SuperBunnyHop did a pretty good review of it, and it's enough to bring in my interest for S&S. Definitely will give this game a shot.

Crossing Souls is next and Rainworld..........i hope

(Crying inside)

Haha. Crossing Souls is a maybe I guess, since Devolver have at least published other Vita games.

I'm not expecting Rain World anymore though. I tweeted the devs about it on Vita last night and they never replied. Just another one to throw into the pile with Hyper Light Drifter and Moon Hunters.

This game is great! Seems like a perfect game for a mobile experience, too, despite being as deep as a Souls game.

This thread, though, made me realize that I'll probably anyways choose my Switch over my Vita when going somewhere. I've never felt comfortable holding the Vita... I haven't even touched it in a year, so I'll probably add it to the list of things to sell.
