Snake Pass |OT| Snake Had A Hard Life

As much as I complained before launch, I'm super happy so far...

Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, Setsuna, Zelda, Binding Of Isaac, Voez, Fast RMX.

Looking at the score aggregators, heck... did any other system have as high-scoring a set of launch games?

When you rerelease games that have already seen success elsewhere, you tend to have a critically successful set of launch games, yet not all that much incentive to purchase them.

The Vita was quite similar, with games like Ninja Gaiden, Rayman Origins, UMVC3 within its launchw indow. But they didn't sell the system and I dare say it's not titles like Shovel Knight, BoI or Setsuna that are selling the switch.

will this game have a launch discount on steam? I see people on ps4 could preorder for 20 percent off but there has never been an option to buy on steam..

I'm planning to do a thread about this at the end of the month actually. Nintendo's strategy was clearly to drop a megaton in Zelda and then surround it with a series of smaller titles catering to various niches. And most of the best of those small titles are either exclusive (Snipperclips, Fast RMX, Blaster Master Zero) or console or timed exclusive (Plague of Shadows, VOEZ). The sum total is a better launch month than I think we've had in generations.

It takes a bit to wrap (Hah!) your head around the controls but I'm having a lot of fun with the game.

The optional coins are absolutely brutal to get (in a good way). The coin under the bridge in the first stage took me over 15 tries to get but it never frustrated me.

The Switch and Xbox versions will answer that. They're supposed to be in out in the US but due to a technical hiccup were delayed to "later today".

Edit: Oh, hey, would you look at that!

Hey Saoirse, would you say it is possible the absence of a launch discount is a mistake on their side? I kind of want to buy the game right now, see how it runs, and refund if it does not, but I don't want to purchase the game without the discount if it gets it in an hour!

Sure (it'd hardly be the first time), although contrary to the PSN pre-order discount, a launch discount has never been mentioned, AFAIK.

Here's what we've got so far:

Thank you.

I'll hold of until a few more people report in.

I'm a little unsure of the controls, but I just love the Rare-like look of this game so much. I want to support as many indies on the Switch as I can, so hopefully more will come to the platform; thing could seriously be the perfect indie system for me (never had a Vita).

I guess that's one way to look at it it but I think a lot of people would prefer more original content. I know a lot of people, myself included that have only purchased Zelda and perhaps one or two other titles on the Switch (I have Zelda, Sniperclips and Fast), and I wouldn't say I've gotten that much enjoyment from Fast RMX or Sniperclips. If someone asked me for another game to buy beyond Zelda, I wouldn't be able to recommend anything sincerely aside Issac and Shovel Knight, and obviously a lot of people have already played those.

Kinda looks like a 3D Hohokum. Colour me intrigued!

Beyond the fact that you play as a snake they don't have all that much in common because Snake Pass is a physics based platformer and hohokum is an art game with light environmental puzzles.

I wouldn't recommend it if you were looking for a game like Hohokum, but Snake Pass is a good game in its own right.

Confirmed on Twitter: no discount except for Playstation preorders.

That IGN video is super sweet.
I am really torn between PS4 (for the 60fps) and Switch (to play it in bed and on the toilet).

Played the first level only. Game looks like it'll be a bit short, but it's absolutely gorgeous on PS4 Pro, David Wise's music is already making me melt, and my worries about the controls have completely dissipated. It feels surprisingly great to play.

Kind of torn, dunno whether to get it on PS4 because it's cheaper, or on PC.

Could also gamble on the Switch version for portability, but apparently that's a cut down version. =/
Not if you preorder it, it was 20% off but today that deal is over.

It's still discounted for PS+ people on the EU store. That's because it doesn't come out till tomorrow.

Well people are saying it looks blurry on Switch compared to PS4, so either it uses some temporal aa or it's sub 1080p.

So far, it seems like people are just making things up and others are rolling with it. We've had a bunch of random tidbits about the switch version, but no actual confirmation of anything from someone that owns it. It's been super confusing tbh.

Seems you can pre-download this early on the PS4, just put mine on to download whilst i'm in work ready for midnight (as long as it unlocks then).

Dangit I saw this thread before I left for work so I grabbed my Switch to download Snake Pass from the eShop.

How many people didn't know about or pay attention to this game until David Wise was announced? I know I didn't!

This was a huge move on their part and really gave it the attention it deserved... hopefully. Seems like people are enjoying it though.

I played about 2 hours today on PS4 Pro. I can also confirm it does indeed run at 1080p 60FPS on the Pro, through the whole 2 hours I only noticed about 2-3 slight stutters so overall the performance is solid on the Pro.

The gameplay is fun albeit a little frustrating to get used to, the Easy control method helps but IMO I prefer the default control method for the sake of the challenge.

The music is fantastic as expected (Praise David Wise!) but I have 2 little qualms at the moment:

1. At least for the first 4 levels, they all have the same song that repeats, I feel like the song should go for at least triple it's current length as slithering around each level for 15-25 min trying to find every collectible starts to wain on you when you keep hearing the same tune. (no matter how beautiful that tune is)

2. I don't know if this is just a PS4 problem but the sound quality for the most part is severely lacking. Both the music and the audio effects sound very compressed, I feel like this is a glitch as I really don't think the Dev's intend the game to sound like this, Hopefully this is addressed in a future patch.

Besides that the game looks just as beautiful in-game as it does in the trailers, the art is absolutely gorgeous. Kudos to the folks at Sumo Digital they've really done a fantastic job, I'll definitely be double dipping for the Switch version as well so I can play this on the go.

Sumo are awesome so I'm definitely buying this, but think I'll hold off for a few days until the dust settles on all this platform stuff. The thread is pretty confusing about what features, framerate and resolution the various ports all have.

Did they specify by saying it was native 1080p?

This.

I haven't played the switch version yet but from the looks of gameplay on youtube and twitch it looks to be around 900p or 720p, I assume they mean 1080p output as in your tv recognizes and displays it at 1080p but it's being rendered at 720p or 900p like Zelda BOTW.

I love World of Goo and Little Inferno but I didn't play Human Resource Machine yet

Should I get Human Resource Machine or Snake Pass first?

Played the first two levels on PC. Enjoying it so far!

The controls are very intuitive so moving around the environment to collect stuff is easy and a lot of fun. Certain coins can be very hard to get, but I felt myself getting better with the controls as I tried to collect everything.

I haven't seen any impressions in here saying that.

I was among some of the people saying it looks blurry.

Here is an example from GameXplain. They uploaded two videos of switch gameplay and they both look noticeably blurry. Even more noticeable when the text box appears at 0:22. It's like watching a 480p video with 1080p HUD. They state in the comments that it was direct feed capture.

I'd love for someone to tell me it's just something weird with YouTube compression but regardless i'm probably going to buy it tonight for my switch.

Ugh... I'm really torn on this one. I know I want the game no matter what, but I'm torn on the platform. Really wanna get it on Switch and support the platform, but I also want it on Xbox to get those sweet cheevos. If it's good enough, I'm sure I'll get it on both eventually but for right now I'm just really torn.

Anyone facing the same dilemma?

Me but for different reasons. I want it on Switch for dock/undock but PS4 Pro performance at 1080p would be nice. Slightly torn, but I love being able to play undocked.

Waiting for reviews and will read about Switch performance. I like achievements, but they don't sway my buying habits. Nintendo really needs to get on that shit though.

The wait sucks for the U.S. Switch version. It's up on Steam to buy now.

Cmon Nintendo, update that eShop and add some nice ambient music! Spice it up a bit!!!
