A battle over the death penalty is brewing in Florida, where Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala has announced her office will no longer seek the death penalty in any murder cases, including in the case of Markeith Loyd, who is accused of murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, and Orlando police officer Debra Clayton.

Governor Rick Scott, who called on her to recuse herself from the Loyd case. When she refused, Scott signed an executive order removing her from the case and reassigning it.

Now Ayala, the first
African-American
state attorney in Florida history, has been receiving death threats, including from local government employees.

Fucking shit. I am completely with her. Capital punishment is an inhuman thing and should be abolished.
Fuck those that think death is better than a life inside prison, which is already punishment enough.

Death penalty is inhuman, but letting someone rot in jail for life is not?

Oh yeah, that Stan guy is a fuckhead.

Some really sick responses.

Not sure why an attorney general would not try to follow the guidelines of the state she represents though.

First African-American state attorney in Florida's history

"Tarred and feathered and hung from a tree"

Seeing a black face associated with an action he disagreed with triggered him so badly that he forgot to keep his KKK leanings between him and his buddies.

Did he make a "Deeply regret my actions.... taken out of context... respect people of all races..." apology yet?

In a place like the US, I agree with her position. I simply don't trust the state to administer such a punishment in any just way. I can imagine certain situations where death may be justified in social terms, but not in society like the US.

Was Stan hacked? No, it was Stan. You are a fucking nasty idiot Stan. Don't be a fucking nasty idiot.

McCullars, whose LinkedIn profile says he's been with the Seminole courts office since April 2016, was placed on administrative leave while the issue is investigated to determine disciplinary action, according to a statement from Grant Maloy, Clerk of Courts and Comptroller.
In another comment, McCullars says it was wrong of him to post those statements about Ayala.
"I let my anger at her efforts to thwart justice get the best of me," he writes.

I have some mixed feelings about this and live just outside Orlando so I've been hearing about this for a bit. I am against the death penalty but feel that it is not appropriate for her to inject her personal feelings into this, especially considering she did not publicly say she was against the death penalty during her campaign which considering how close her race was, she may likely have lost had she said so. My feelings about Kim Davis not doing her job because her personal feelings mean I'd be a hypocrite to say this case should be different just because I happen to agree with the state attorney on the death penalty. Add to that the particular case in question being extremely heated and covered extensively locally, and I can understand her being removed from the case. I don't see why her race is coming up at all outside of some disgusting comments from assholes on social media and whatnot, but assholes come out of the woodwork for every controversy, I don't think it's indicative of a large amount of people's feelings.

No one should be adamant about seeking a death penalty. The bloodlust some people have is nuts. For very serious crimes just lock them up forever. A life without freedom is more punishing than killing a criminal.

Whatever you do, don't look up that Stan Mccullars guy and read the comments on an article about his suspension. Apparently the prosecutor is the hateful bigot in this situation and McCullars is a freedom fighter just speaking on behalf of the marginalized and downtrodden.

But I see where this anger is coming from. Nothing gets me harder than knowing that someone, somewhere is being killed by the government. I'm just a regular old small government conservative who believes in unchecked power for government law enforcement, executions at the government's whim and who doesn't have the reading comprehension required to understand the definition of 'cognitive dissonance.'

Not to mention how long it actually takes to actually hold the execution.

Yeah, you have to wonder about people posting that on their public facebook profile. Somebody takes issue with a comment like that and you could get someone sending you very nasty stuff through every channel...

Edit: Ah, i see he got fired. Justice!

How fucking bloodthirsty do you have to be that you get so angry at someone because they won't kill for you that you in turn want to kill her? Sums up the Pro death penalty contingent quite nicely. "Just shut up and murder people!"

Seriously. This guy is having a breakdown into violent urges because somebody wanted to choose alternatives to the death penalty.

It's up to the prosecuting attorney to decide what punishment fits the case. If she believes the death penalty doesn't fit any cases then technically that's her choice. If she just never went for the death penalty but never stated it publicly no one would care. Maybe a case or two people would get upset but never enough to get removed from a case
