Playtonic unveils Yooka-Laylee (Banjo Kazooie successor) [Kickstarter LIVE - Funded]

I saw someone post a picture of a physical edition on Twitter and it looked like it comes on a disc, not a paper with a code.

It's a Steam installation disc, so there should be a code with it too - understandably, people won't want to post a photo of that as well.

What is that? Is it just a dummy disc with a Steam installer on it or something?

The disc has the game installation files, but part of the installation process will require a Steam key and the game will end up being tied to your Steam account. It saves on downloading the game files, but otherwise the end result is the same as a digital download installation..

So I originally backed this on PC, but decided that PS4 would actually be better for me atm. I have not redeemed my code yet. Anyone looking to trade?

I agree that Jolly Roger Lagoon is probably the most "Kazooie" of Tooie's Worlds, and that's why it is my favourite. Grunty Industries is also great, due to its mazy dungeon-like structure. It's like playing Zelda in Banjo and it's awesome. However, Terrydactiland (dat triceratops family quest...), Hailfire Peaks and Cloudcuckooland are just terrible in terms of the amount of time spent going to the same areas.

Now i'm seriously concerned about the World 3 of Yooka-Laylee. I've read it's the worse, even worse than the in-famous casino, in both level design and aesthetic (while there is one review that said it was the best one). Can you confirm or refute it?

Actually, I think world three is the best out of the third three worlds and I usually don't like the level trope.

So when the orchestral update comes, that'll replace all the music in the game? It seems really strange they wouldn't wait for that. Along with a few other features missing/needing more time.

Do we think they had to push this out to start earning some money?

In a funny way, even as a backer, this could be the reason. Could also be because of Team 17. Who knows?

Yeah maybe Team 17 wanted it out by a certain date and wouldn't budge? In the end having the Switch version delayed might be for the best.

Yeah true. Maybe in the end the Switch version will be the most polished :p. If I enjoy it enough on Steam and that IS the case I may double dip on there...

PS4 copy just arrived, despite backerkit saying "ready to ship". Hype!

Congrats and enjoy!

Anyone know when to expect the Switch version of this game? Seems like something I'd enjoy and I'd love it for the Switch if possible.

I'm probably a minority but I really enjoyed Frantic Factory from DK64 and it's difficult to choose between this or Clanker's Cavern. Actually I think DK64 had very good world design in general. Significantly bigger than Kazooie but not more compact than Tooie.

Interesting. How is that?

It is very densely designed, the individual taska are a lot of fun, the structure of the level is very well-planned and it is reasonably challenging in terms of careful platforming without putting too much pressure on the player. It is looking a bit dull maybe, but I do not care for visuals too much.

Kirkhope recorded his portion of the score with an orchestra six months ago (according to his twitter). They had more than enough time to put it into the game, which is what makes it so weird.

(Since Burke and Wise's music is more reliant on electronics, I'm not expecting their music to be replaced when the update comes.)

My friend at work got his physical copy yesterday delivered by courier (uk), and he only lives down the road from me. Mine did not come. I don't know what I've done in my life to deserve this kind of karma.

Maybe I shouldn't have murdered that hooker last week.

I think they may alsop want to have some distance from Super Mario Odyssey. Had they postponed the release by just two months, it would have been very close to E3, where Mario Odyssey will probably play a huge role. With Odyssey seemingly going back to a Collectathon style approach, and the Tokyo team being the best developer on earth, I can see them wanting to avoid that competition.

My physical copy arrived via courier yesterday, which was strange as we don't normally see courier's driving about on Sunday. Still can't complain, put a few hours in last night and i'm quite enjoying it.

Aw man, I still have to wait for it to unlock on steam. Boo you guys!

Yeah, Team17 ought to unlock the game on XBL and Steam now that PS4 codes are being distributed. Not that I'm overly fussed as I'm between GPUs at the moment and can't play the game, anyway. :sadcloud:

Pro-tip for the mission in world 3 where you have to lead mushroom seeds into holes
you're supposed to use Yooka's tongue to move them around, not try to push them yourself, even though you can do two of the three with relative ease that way.
