Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Sony isn't afraid of that December slot for games that it knows will only sell to a select few anyway. I expect to see Knack 2 then as September, October, and November will see Sony's marketing dollars going towards its third party deals.

Remember that Knack 2 is not really targeting the same people who play Call of Duty, on average. Yeah, there's going to be some overlap, but I imagine it's running counter to many of the other games. It could release in December, but I wouldn't be surprised if it releases before that, especially for a Black Friday family game.

As far as its quality goes, I'm looking forward to it despite not liking Knack.

I couldn't even finish the first game because it became so repetitive, but it started off with such promise. I liked the growth/shrinking concept, I liked the gameplay at first, and I liked finding secret chests. The lack of platforming wasn't even a huge deal for me (though I don't mind additional platforming in the sequel), but because your attacks didn't evolve or change, I felt I was doing the same thing to every enemy, and it eventually got to the point where I simply turned to another game and never came back.

Knack 2 looks to alleviate that so far (I hope its gameplay improvements can sustain a whole game, which I think it can and hope it will), plus with co-op and puzzles and interesting platforming? I'm down with that. Hope it turns out well because I'm totally down with its concept and potential.

Uncharted in August, Knack 2 in September and GT Sport in October.

Add one or two of the bigger games (Detroit, God of War, Dreams, Spider-Man, etc...) and Sony is good for the rest of the year.

Im praying for detroit this year, but another uncharted is welcomed. I needs my hot shots golf fix too

Nah I say they stop at October. Destiny 2 will already be out, 2k is October, than November call of duty and battlefront(stay away from these monsters) possibly Rdr2 as well
They can double up through August, September and October. I could see one of the bigger games launching late September while Knack 2 launches early September, for example.

Did Knack actually sell well or does Mark Cerny just have carte blanche?
Both.

I'm glad Knack 2 is getting made, out of the few critically panned PS4 exclusives Knack annoyed me the least. Cannot get past the awful character design so will not support and I doubt it even costs AAA budget or time so unlike other bad games like 1886 why not make a Knack? You know. There are not many games like it these days.

Even taking out bundles, it very likely sold better than Gravity Rush 1/2, with a lower budget to make.

And we can't discount the Mark Cerny carte blanche factor too.

I think Knack 2 will be a marked improvement over 1, so I'm glad it exists. But honestly, I can see a lot of the criticism it getting be along the lines of "what the first game should've been" and just generally comparisons to other, better platformers out at the time. Which is fair.

As someone who hasn't played 1 (nor do I ever plan on buying it), I'm interested to see what the marketing will be like, if any.

I'd rather they not make it if It's going to be bad like the first apparently was, unique orr not

They could be making Modnation Racers 2 with that time and money :(

Speaking of underwhelming things that are due a second chance, weren't there rumors at one point that someone was working on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2? If executed well, that could be a nice E3 surprise.

We're one step closer to having Crash, which means we're one step closer to Spyro. Plus, now we've got Aloy, Knack, The Hunter (Bloodborne), Joel & Ellie, Galahad, Iota & Atoi, Delsin & Fetch, Kutaro, Oddsock, Toggle, and Swoop, The dancer from Bound. That could ease one complaint.

When did that happen? The only thing I can think of is Verendus' thing, but that was way too long ago.

Also Crash (and also Cloud's) chances are pretty good but I do think that getting all of the big third parties, not just some, is the big issue. And currently, I don't think Spyro and also Lara would be anything but their Skylanders/Reboot versions. I also have no clue whether Snake would even be possible given Konami's current priorities.

I don't think it's possible even with all the time and money in the world seeing as how United Front Games closed down last year

It'll be announced right after Sony's big budget JRPG.
Never.

Knack was a PS4 launch title next to Killzone Shadow Fall, when a new system doesnt have much other games of course those games will get the most sales, Zelda on Switch for example a 100% attach rate throughout the month of Switch release

That works the other way too. If Knack hadn't been rushed to hit launch, it would've been a better game.

I'm saying I'd rather have Japan Studio work on just about anything else

I don't believe that part about 100% attach rate is accurate.

Yeah i guess, i feel they focused more on graphics and what the new hardware can do making kzsf and knack more like tech demos main focus for it's launch.

After reading this Polygon article of their impressions of playing Knack 2 it already seems much better in every aspect than the 1st so I'm looking forward to it but not day one instead for cheap later don't wanna support it still don't wanna give SJS the wrong ideas

Sony's got ads all over the NBA Playoffs. It seems like every commercial break they have that ad with Gran Turismo Sport and Horizon playing.

I really think Gran Turismo's release date is going to drop out of nowhere and come out sooner than we expect. I wouldn't be shocked if it were something like July. It's in beta right now and all over Sony's marketing, it's also been looking great for months. I can see the date being announced well ahead of E3.

One other thing to remember about Knack was they used it to demonstrate remote play with Vita. I think they had this in mind from the start. It was never a game about depth but about accessibility.

I liked Knack. I'd score it like a 7/10. Which is fine. I enjoyed it for about a week or two and plat'd it.

I won't spend more than $30 on the sequel, but I will absolutely get it eventually.

To those that don't have a PS4: the message "ABC played XYZ for the first time" does appear again if you haven't played a game in a while. Don't know exactly how long, maybe a year, maybe half a year, but it doesn't mean he never played it.

EXACTLY the same message appeared for Mark Cerny just before Knack 2 was announced, so either the time period is fairly short or he set up another account.

Still funny, though. :)

Besides, the guy has probably playtested the shit out of it regardless.

I really miss United Front but it's not like a sequel couldn't happen without them. I'm pretty sure Sony San Diego developed the Vita spin-off (sequel?) themselves.

Nah Gran Turismo Sport will be the first marquee exclusive for PS4 to launch close to or during the holiday season. Why drop a tentpole release in mid-summer? Plus I want them to take all the time they need perfect it technically.

Why not? Why drop it in competition with 5 monster multiplat games?

Have to release before anyone lay eyes on Forza 7 Scorpio footage.

Gran Turismo is different enough that those titan multiplatform games won't effect its sales much. If you like racing games and only own a PS4 you will be buying it most likely. It will be massive in Europe. As far as why not it could be successful at any time, but I think this is an opportunity for them to have a major exclusive during that time frame without worrying about its sales potential being diminished.

So before E3? You're funny.

A) that's probably impossible unless it's ready for release in the next 2 months, and B) I'm not sure a Forza game - even one with really pretty graphics - would take much wind out of GT's sales. Don't forget that the last two instalments have sold about 15 million copies total, so it's still a juggernaut of the genre.

first of all lol...

and honestly GT needs a critical push as well as big seller. The last release was lukewarm in GT standards on all accounts. They should release it whenever it's ready. honestly, Forza 7 even on Scorpio is not going to blow it away graphically, these are machines separated by a year of tech lol.

GT doesn't release every year like Forza, Kaz needs to nail this.

GT -is- (until proven otherwise) a monster and is the type of game that benefits more than is being hurt by launching in a holiday (how bout a wheel to go with it? It's Christmas!).
God of War is the other established IP I could see Sony doing that with this Holiday (October or Early December).

GT Sports will be fine.
6 came out in December, a bad time for games to release, on the PS3, when the PS4 was already out. It isn't a game you release in a quiet month, a summer release could hurt sales.
