Well if they've pulled it off the camera is behind the display, which goes transparent in that area when it's needed.

I'm skeptical too, but an OLED TV has pulled off the transparent bit and I did think that if Apple went with a full-front display they would go all in.

Does look nice doesn't it.

Looks like the iPhone 6/6S/7 iPhones without any bezels, so where is the big new grand design they are going to unveil :p

They are getting the screens from Samsung, if anything the device will look almost identical from a screen perspective to the S8 series...

This design isn't bezel free. In fact it doesn't look like the side bezels are any smaller at all. It just eliminates the chins.

And when has apple ever been content to just look or be like it's competition? They try to differentiate their stuff at any cost, sometimes even to it's detriment (Mac pro anyone?)

Those bezels/lips around the edge are ugly AF to me, reminds me of the OG iPhone and the Apple Watch.

Maybe they're needed so the phone isn't a slippery mess though.

If the render is right, a bigger screen is always good, but looking at my phone, the side bezels have only shrunk by a milimeter, and the only extra real estate comes from the top and bottom (Jony Ive: We could have made it totally bezel-less, but we retained a bit of it for comfortable, unobstructed browsing, while retaining the familiar, iconic, and much loved rounded edges.).

Do any devices actually exist that have fingerprint readers in the actual screen? Cause I'm skeptical that will actually exist in the iPhone 8, seems a bit beyond what we have in any consumer devices right now. Don't get me wrong... i want it, as I currently have an iPhone 7+ and would love to upgrade to an 8+ or equivalent.

I'm fully expecting them to just move the sensor onto the back... which I hope isn't what ends up happening, cause that's nowhere near as cool

The ear hole in the middle of the screen really ruins it. Gotta get that vibrating screen speaker technology sorted out.

The super wide rounded corners of the screen are dumb as well, once you watch a regular video or something it's gonna have big ol bezels anyways.

That's what happened with Samsung from what I understand. Couldn't get the sensor under the screen sorted out on the S8 in time (hence the odd placement in the back).

That touchbar as a fingerprint reader embedded on the power button which is a button on the far-right of the touch bar.

I haven't seen it actually display changing images on that part of the touch bar? can it do that?

Only thing the iPhone is missing is having small bezels so this would be great.

Other than that, the design is pretty great.

I prefer this to the infinity screen on the S8, as in, I THINK I need a little bit of a bezel, though I like having the whole front as a screen.

Arms race to the bezel-less, full screen phone though, I guess.

OG iPhone design was a landmark design
iPhone 4 was a landmark design
iPhone 8 is shaping up to be a landmark design

These phones define the phone design landscape for years. No one else compares. Don't say some nonsense like that Xiaomi which looks cool but is compromised (sound, front camera). No one can compare when it comes to Apple design. Looking forward to the inevitable Android devices, too.

looks awful. i think the iphone is fine as it is but they seriously need to get rid of all that bezel. iPhone looks so bad next to a Galaxy S8.

Bezel needs to go but I dislike the screen ratio on the Galaxy S8. Not wide enough or do my eyes deceive me?

The render is completely wrong in regards to the tech drawing. Differences:

-There is a small bezel that isnt shown in the render
-The camera speaker etc are ontop of the screen not behind it.

Sorry, I do not know of any display that can become transparent to make a hidden camera work, and the speakerphone cutout? While the Apple watch has the light sensor behind the display, that's a lot easier than a whole camera. That's ridiculous.
The new iPhone might have a edgeless design, but it will have some sort of bezels. Sensors must be placed somewhere.

Why is a bezel free design something to aspire to? Where are you supposed to rest your thumb? If the entire front is a touchable screen, won't you end up making a load of accidental touches?

Have you seen the iPhone 7? Where was the differentiation there? It looked exactly like the 6 in fact.
If they were able to hide away the fingerprint scanner and cameras behind the screen, then awesome and I'm all for it...I'm just doubtful that they would be able to do it with this model considering where they are getting parts from. But happy to be wrong!

They probably don't bring back the headphone jack either so that's a double skip from me.

I guess the no home button thing is real. It adds more real estate to the phone so I like that. The whole size of the phone is a screen. I still have the 6 plus and probably won't upgrade until this thing dies since it works great still but god damn that design looks cool. I assume it's also water/dust resistant

Where do you rest your thumb? I have a 7+ and I just place mine on the side of the phone.

Software can fix the problem of accidental touches. Sophisticated enough software. But whether that exists is unknown.
