Cosmic Star Heroine |OT| Alyssa's Chrono Phantasy

*sigh* Lost 90 minutes of progress after I won a battle but it didn't end. Just sort of froze in this state. I guess the one dude's (in the turn order side bar) death didn't trigger correctly.

The disadvantage with generous retries when dying in battle is that you forget to save your game...

E: Now, this disappointment aside, I'm really enjoying the game. The two latest companions seem really cool. I love that one of them can borrow power from other party members if you need to, that's a great idea for a companion.

I've been saving after every battle as this soft locking is very common. I'm well over 15 soft locks now. The worst is when you're in a good boss fight and doing well and it soft locks and you get to start over -- soul crushing :(

Hey Robert, found a little bug (PC here):

When you're at the Hive and
you have the place where you can to three areas (left, top, right) and have to fix the antena, if you go to the top and then to right the game doesn't recognize the door that leads from the right to the middle, like, there's no transition. So you have to go to the top (or left) and go down to the middle again

It's nothing that really bothered me, but there it is :p (if it's confusing i can post a screenshot of the place)

If I'm not mistaken, that's not a bug, that's the way being blocked by a staircase. However, I agree that we could have made this more clear.

Just getting ready to jump into the PC version. I know you guys have been busy patching since release but are there any big bugs left that I should be aware of before I start?

I haven't narrowed it down yet, but I think there's some sort of issue where the Retry Battle command sometimes messes things up. And there's an issue with battles sometimes locking up - I think it's related to songs & poison. Going to try to fix both ASAP, but anyway, just remember to save frequently (you can save anywhere outside of combat).

Awesome.

A friend of mine who doesn't play on PC is going to buy it on PS4. Has it been patched up to date with PC and if not is there an eta?

No, I've had a PS4 patch ready since Friday but I'm still trying to get PSN to accept it. It's so much more difficult than Steam (where I can get a patch up in under an hour with ease).

question for those who backed it on kickstarter, did you receive a game code via email? I can't seem to find anything

Interested to know this too, apparently the NA PSN codes have been sent out but the EU PSN codes haven't yet?

I received an email from Humble Bundle that let me know I could get the code off their website, and a redirection link that took me there. The code was not in the email itself, however. If you're in NA and didn't get it yet, check spam folders and all that good stuff and then send an email over to Zeboyd to let them know. I have no clue if the game is out in EU territories yet.

I'm in Europe as well, that might actually be the case

Great to here, well deserved. I'm trying to get all my friends to play it. It's way better than I was expecting (and I was expecting it to be very good :p)

Hope the good word of mouth does you well!

FWIW, I've played 12 hours on PC and have ran into 0 soft or hard lock bugs. I had one issue where Alyssa got stuck in some terrain, but I had saved like a minute earlier, so it was fine. If you are worried, just save a lot. It's what I do and you can do it literally everywhere. It takes about 2 seconds on PC.

Which part of the game did you get stuck in the terrain?

IIRC, it was the path between
New Rhomu and the rich guy's mansion (forget his name). I think there's like an elevator that leads to the surface along the way and there are little pikes in the ground.
I got stuck between one of those pikes and the rock wall.

Again, I'm not 100% on if that was the precise location. Definitely Rhomu, though. But there was definitely a thing sticking out of the ground and a wall behind it. Wish I got a screenshot. I might have been able to wiggle out of it if I tried harder.

OK cool.
I can fix these things pretty easily if I know the general area.
And if there's one sticking point in a general area I can survey the surrounding dungeon for similar sticking points. These sticking points are a little harder to find and suss out than they seem.

Hey guys, just a quick FYI, I'm getting a bug where my game freezes if I try to change party members while in the tower/dungeon you go to trying to find
Psybe
. The place with the batteries.

As soon as I leave the menu after switching party members the game seems to lock up, can't move or press buttons

edit: not sure what triggered it, but it is working okay now after a couple of hard closes...

Cosmic Star Heroine v1.05 is now up on Steam.

v1.05 (April 17, 2017)
Poison can no longer kill. This affects both the player characters & enemies. Poison abilities for Lauren & Z'xorv deal a little more damage. This is a buff. This should prevent the "Poison deaths sometimes freeze the game" bug that I've been unable to reproduce.
Characters can no longer exceed the LV cap (99).
Fixed a bug where recharge was sometimes disabling one-time-use abilities.
Unleash can no longer be recharged mid-combat.
Revive Ray is now properly tagged as a gunmancy ability.
Fixed a bug with equipment that gives the Auto-Revive passive.
Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented the player from returning to Nightshade when they were supposed to be able to.
A specific map in the final dungeon should no longer randomly glitch out.
Swapped time icons for a pair of enemies that were reversed.
Duplicate shopkeeper glitch in Gehenna shelter fixed.
Various map adjustments.
Fixed some more NPC names.

Still trying to get the PS4 patch that brings it up to date with the Steam version up on the PSN. :(

Put in 4 1/2 hours into the PS4, which is going at a super fast pace for me. Just won at rock scissor paper and when it finally clicked what the answer would be it felt great.

No bugs yet.

Playing in Heroine difficulty. Some earlier battles took many tries, but it's getting easier it seems.

didnt find the problem with regen song ? it always freeze when i use it on most boss fight. happy for poison, i like this change.

Was only able to play for 8 minutes but the game was fun thus far. Love the pixel art!

Robert, I know you used to post some updates in the GAF Indie dev thread but I'm wondering, is this Game Maker?

I'm personally using it for my own game and I like to see examples of it being put to good use. Regardless, I'm excited to play more. :)

It's made with Unity

I put some decent hours into the game during Easter break, and can rightfully declare that it is good.

I haven't finish with the game yet, but it is truly something special. I don't know why it wasn't even in the top 20 RPG best-seller in Steam.

In a lot of turn-based RPG, I find myself to have a set moves and skills already set in stone in the first few turn. But in this game, I constantly changing my loadouts (and not only because I'm fighting monsters in one area, and robotic in the next) because they all have possible use in all situations.

Also I'm loving the Style/Hyper mechanics. I mean, with Clarke's style buff, combined with Lauren's damage over time Program, everyone can have high style at all times, resulting in high damage output. So good.

Time for me to go evangelizing this game in other RPG thread. :p

Robert and team,

I've bought most of your games and will always support you, but it feels like you needed a few more weeks/months of testing/balancing/polish based on my own experiences and what I've seen reading through this thread. I'm 2 hours in on the PS4 version and I've experienced 2 lockups and one crash to the dashboard. I can't remember all of them, but one was early on when the group got separated and Alyssa goes to the first screen to the right. A cutscene was supposed to trigger and it just locked up so I had to kill the app. The other crashes were from this same "dungeon" as well. It's one thing when you're a tiny indie doing what you can, but once you get exposure and support from Sony, expectations rise.

Chrono Trigger is in my top five and I love the inspiration that you took from it, but I think it would be good to replay it (and other 16-bit RPGs) again and take note of the polish they have. A lot of little touches could make your game seem more professional:

* Have (very quick) transitions between gameplay and menus to give them more weight
* Have confirmations of selections represented by both visual and audio confirmations
* Give NPCs a physical presence in the world - this would make it feel much less flimsy
* I've accidentally re-triggered conversations with NPCs about 100 times already because of some weird timing with button presses for someone like me tends to jam on buttons more than I need to
(I'm surprised that this got out of testing!)
* Put in an auto-run option
* Just more transitional animations in general would help - it's hard to explain but every selection is TOO fast compared to modern games
* And due to the issues with crashing, you really need an auto save to live alongside the manual saves so there's always a backup!
* Tue action bar going top to bottom is just confusing for some reason. I think it's because the text is at the top. Left to right would be more intuitive to me...
* Item/gear comparisons aren't the most intuitive (maybe a +/- instead of just red/green?) - there's some opportunity for improvement within your menus for sure
* And more little things that I can't think of right now...

These are just a few suggestions for this or future games because I'd like to see you take the next step because I really do like your games. I put down Persona 5 and Zelda for a few hours to play it over the weekend and I really enjoyed what I played so far. I'll definitely finish it and I know I'll have a great time doing so like I have had with your other games. You're just SO close to taking that next step and I want it to happen for you!

Best of luck getting all the bugs/tweaks worked out and once you do, please take a vacation! Also, and I know I'm not the first person to say this, but CSH and future games would be perfect on the Switch!

is the game only supposed to work with the thumbstick and not the D-pad?
because the options say thumbstick and d-pad.

is this something you can fix?

windows 10
xbox360 wired controller btw

edit: its working now. I unplugged the controller while in game and retried it and its working. thankfully because my thumbstick has a hair trigger.

While my experience hasn't been as buggy as CouldBeWorse's, I second some of their suggestions, particularly these:

* I've accidentally re-triggered conversations with NPCs about 100 times already because of some weird timing with button presses for someone like me tends to jam on buttons more than I need to
(I'm surprised that this got out of testing!)
* Put in an auto-run option
Yes please! I keep getting the repeated conversations, it's very aggravating. Not occasionally either, but often.

And yeah auto-run sounds nice. I almost never need to walk. Didn't previous Zeboyd games have a toggle instead of holding a button, anyway?

I don't really mind/care about the rest much, hasn't been an issue so far, but these two things above could really, really use the tweaks. I don't know how hard they would be to do but I don't think they'd be all that difficult? (Sorry if I'm talking out of my ass, I'm a programmer myself, but not really of games.)

Working on finishing the game and will be doing a video review for my youtube and also writing one for a website and it will be positive for sure. A great RPG here. Like I wish I could have finished it already but life happens.

Anyone find all the character sidequests?

I've found

Finn -
Police station
Chahn -
Gunmancy Shrine

I figure there are a few more, but haven't found them yet. I'm at the point of no return, though. So trying to hit up everywhere.

The repeated conversation bug on PS4 was fixed almost immediately after launch, but I can't get the patch up on PSN. Been trying for a while.

And yeah, we've been trying to get a hold of anybody on Sony Europe for days to either delay the release or apply a patch, but no luck. If you bought the game on EU PSN, please don't play it right now.

If you bought the game for PC, you should have it, regardless of region.

can I ask you how the backers receive the codes? Do you send them out with emails? In the update #79 you said "Cosmic Star Heroine is out on Steam/Windows. If you selected a PC version, going to your Humble Store page should let you activate it". My kickstarter and humble store accounts aren't linked though, I feel like I'm missing an important step

sorry to annoy you with this, I can imagine you guys are rather busy right now :p

I wish I could trade in my PS4 version for the Steam version now. I'm ready to play this game, but I'd feel silly starting knowing there are fixes on the way.

Oh I just bought it on EU PSN last night. So I should just wait until a patch is available?

Sucks that Sony are being slow to allow you to apply the patch, good luck with the launch though.

Psybe
has one if
you talk to him on the ship
Z'xorv
has one with
the bounty hunter on the second floor of Stakes in New Rhomu
Dave
has one if
you talk to him on the ship

I think that might be it, can't think of any others i found off the top of my head

I was hoping for a
Sue
one because I remember he had like a
Father's Day tie
or something like that that alluded to a
family
, but no dice it seems.

Can you confirm you're on PS4 EU or NA? Roberts been trying to get a patch up on to EU but they've been on vacation so no joy. More patches to come to both of course, but yeah EU is not playable right not until the devs can get the patch to actually go up, they have been trying, I've been watching rather helplessly as they do so, frustrating for them and you guys too I'm sure of it.
