Yeah what a awesome, stylish and cool fucking film, i saw it half last night, finished it this morning, as i was so tired i had to sleep, anyways since i finished it this morning, it has been on my mind all day. I feel like it could have been ripped straight outta a Graphic Novel, or even from the pages of a 2000ad comic (British comic where Judge Dredd came from), I wasn't expecting it to be so good, barely followed this movie when it came out, of course i saw a few trailers and thought it looked good, glossed over the thread when it came out, maybe i will see it on Netflix one day.

Fast forward to almost 2 years later.

So last night on Sky TV here in the UK god knows how many showings later, it was on, I didn't even watch it when it premiered on this channel, but had nothing to do last night, saw it whilst going through the TV guide, Oh I heard good things about this I thought to myself lets get this over & done with then how good can it be?... HOW GOOD CAN IT BE? WAS I FUCKING SERIOUS, I ate my words, damn I was NOT prepared for this.

One thought was, damn i wish George Miller would Direct a Judge Dredd Cursed Earth Movie cos that would be Fucking genius, following on from Dredd 2012 and with Urban again. Stallone's Judge Dredd covered the cursed earth a bit i know, but I wanna see a full film or series like this, plus it would be leagues better, there again Mad Max Fury Road already felt like this a bit.

However maybe that would be unfair, cos now actually i want George, whilst he has a chance, to continue this fantastic series whilst he has a chance, immediately after it finished i wanted another. I am half tempted to watch the originals but feel they may be slightly dated now, as I have never watched them, other than that i could get into the Video Game perhaps, is that any good?

That is all, i just wanted to share this Lttp thread, as there is bound to be someone else out there like me who still hasnt seen it and has considered it, just go watch it you won't regret it and No you don't need to know the other films, I do not and i still loved this one.

What a film. I didn't see it until two months ago, I was worried it wouldn't live up to the hype, but it did.

I agree..holy shit was it fantastic. I truely believe this movie is destined to join the likes of Die Hard, The Dark Knight, Terminator 2, OG Star Wars, and Avengers as the great action films.

It is a bit of a shame though that this got overshadowed by the newest Fast and the Furious movie and Age of Ultron at the time.

The Road Warrior holds up really, really well. Mad Max is interesting but the no budget independent experience may seem underwhelming. Beyond Thunderdome really goes for broke with the world building and comic imagery but not all of it works.

Fuck you for putting that awesome and impossible idea into my brain. Miller should be granted eternal life in order to direct pitch-perfect action movies for all time.

I tried going back to watch the 2nd Mad Max after being head over heels for Fury Road and it didn't grab me at all. It didn't age well at all in my eyes, partly because it was such a low budget affair you can tell they just found a patch of desert to film in.

Saw it in theatres a few times, then a few more times when it came out on disc, and just rewatched it last night on Netflix. Wasn't sure if it would hold up after seeing it so many times, but damn was it still fresh as heck.

I'm also scared about watching the originals, as I've never seen them. Feel like it'd be a downgrade going back after all the beautiful effects and colours of Fury Road.

EDIT: Loved how Max's car shows up from time to time.

One of my favorite movies. Usually I regret buying movies on Bluray since I usually only watch them once and shelf, but I have watched this eight times. An absolute joy to rewatch. I'd even go out of my way to see in a theater again if they showed it somewhere.

Road Warrior is almost as good as Fury Road but action wise it doesn't compare. Fury road is like the climax of Road Warrior over the whole movie.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Where the fuck is my Mad Max: Wasteland?

A few years away at the absolute best. Miller said in an interview circa last year's Oscars that he wants to do something smaller before tackling another blockbuster, which is presumably why Hardy mentioned a few months ago that Wasteland is still merely "pending", and WB couldn't push ahead with a different director even if it wanted to as Kennedy Miller Mitchell owns the IP.

Came to read about Mad Max. OP is mostly about Judge Dredd

What can i say about the Mad Max that hasn't probably already been said at this point? There was a OT thats about 172 pages long.

Only 2 Paragraphs mention Dredd and that's how i felt, it was like watching something out of that world, only better and i love Dredd 2012, it's why i'd like to see a film by George Miller in that world, or if someone had said hey you like Dredd maybe you'd like Mad Max, I would have seen it way sooner.

Watched again last month, the 4K version this time. Like said above, I love how the movie tells so much with so few words and just image cues.

I never watched Mad Max before, always though it was a trash franchise, like Highlander btw.

so its was surprisingly good to me as well

Fury Road is a master class in how to do non-verbal storytelling so well that you don't even notice it if you aren't paying attention.

Here's a video explaining this way better than I ever could.

That video explains so much that I appreciated about the movie, but never knew how to articulate.

"The film is like getting your head dipped in gasoline and having it shot out of a cannon."
Someone's one-sentence review I always liked.

Loved every second of it, after I watched it the first time, it instantly became one of my favourite movies of all time. When I first saw it in theatres, I couldn't stop thinking about it for the next couple of days, until I went to watch it again. I then went and saw it in theatres three more times after that, because I couldn't get enough and have seen it 3 or 4 times since it came out on Blu-ray.

Also, this thread needs more gif love:

Pick any angle to asses this movie in, and it's still good.

Sound design, cinematography, editing, pacing, writing, characterization, etc.

Perfect in every way

Thanks for this, I'm a big fan of Lindsey's work yet somehow missed this. The bit on sound design was especially fascinating.

Seeing this in theatres was really amazing, I kept thinking about it for a few days after, the sounds and visuals kept coming back to my mind. like I was on a little bit of drugs or something. Never had that with any other film.

This movie has great examples of smart exposition and subtlety.

This part here just conveys so much about the relationship between Max and Furiosa. One of my favorite films.

Livingskeletons

If I pulled that off, would you die?
Insane movie.

Just felt like Miller was given a boat load of money to fuck around in the desert and the end result was spectacular.

Now watch the Black and Chrome version for a different experience. I noticed both more and less in that version. The lack of color and altered contrast brings certain details out more while also making it feel more desolate and barren.

Argh, I just don't get the hype for this film... Yeah it looks gorgeous at times, but Max is played terribly, TERRIBLY by Tom Hardy. His Max just doesn't work for me at all. Furiosa was more of the main protagonist for me over his muted performance. Just feels weird that the main character feels subdued and a bit out of place through the whole movie.

I guess I was immediately annoyed by the opening of the film, with all the crazies. The film had a manic beginning that gave me a headache, then Immortan Joe or whatever his name was... what a ludicrous looking villain. I just thought he looked silly (same goes for flamethrower guitar guy - don't get all the people proclaiming best movie ever because of THAT -yes I've basically seen that in previous threads). Yeah sorry I just did not gel with this movie. I wish I did, I went cos of the universal hype and I seem to be one of the few who doesn't rate this at all. Hate being out of the loop, but it just rubbed me up the wrong way. Sorry!

They're showing this at my cinema next week and I cannot wait.

Check out this side-by-side comparison. Fury Road comes out looking like the expensive remake that George Miller always wanted to make

Saw it last week for the first time(it was recently added to Netflix Germany) and I enjoyed it! Really something I wasn't expecting.

Easily the greatest action film of the last 15 years. George miller is a true visionary and Hardy and Theron were excellent. An absolute fucking masterpiece of the highest order.

I remember I had expected it to not live up to the hype but after coming out of the cinema I was blown away. Deserves all the accolades it gets.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! WHAT!?
I missed the opportunity to go see it during the limited engagement in November. I can't see anything for national showtimes, so maybe just a local thing?

Seems to be a one day thing in the UK, which I don't think had any sort of re-run since the initial film.

Dat digital colour grading.

I think that (apart from the obviously bigger budget) has a huge role in nailing the look. But even the tight shots of action and engines and whatnot seem much more refined in Fury Road. The cinematography is immaculate.

The beginning of the movie is information overload, but with the low-exposition nature of the movie, it means that if you're not going in knowing that you have to pay very close attention early on, you're going to get confused (unlike high-exposition movies where the opening might be boring due to all the talking).

Despite how beloved the Fire Cyclone scene is, i really feel like the movie finds its footing after that and becomes something more manageable and less overwhelming, then builds back up to the high-amp finale with the final chase scenes.

A movie that will stand the test of time. Even if it' didn't break the Box Office, it has more of a following and love than some that are Top 10 of all time money-makers, which says a lot. People are still fawning over and and discovering it.

Don't apologize for having a different opinion. I do agree with you some what, the movie was over hyped imo, and I thought the part with the guy that was playing the guitar during the chases was super corny and didn't look too good. As for Tom Hardy I thought he did pretty well even though, imo it wasn't his greatest role, but I do like Tom Hardy and enjoy most of his films.

It was a really good, unique film which made bold choices. Action scenes were amazing. I wish I felt the love as others do, but the characters were muted to the point where it was hard for me to develop much interest in them, or what happened to them. Still, as a visual experience it was well worth the price, but I have no desire to watch it again.

Edit: also agree that the villains were kind of silly. They were more ridiculous than intimidating, and for this film to work I think it needed more than just bog standard wasteland mutants.
