If we're talking movies, sure, but that's like hopping a knee-high fence.

TV though? Kingpin and Purple Man. Can't beat that.

Are we talking just the movies? If so, then of course, that's the benefit of it being on a TV show. (Also all the movie villains kinda suck)

If it includes the shows, then it becomes harder... Fisk, Kilgrave, Cottonmouth were amazing. Diamondback and whoever the fuck was the main villain in Iron Fist weren't.

But while CW has its issues with pacing and such, characters like Damien Darhk, Malcolm Meryln, Eobard, Slade, etc. ultimately even it out. Even more so with the whole recent Legion of Doom thing that was just pure joy.

SHIELD has had the best villains IMO.

Malcolm Merlyn was insufferable on Arrow. His portrayal in LoT is slightly better, but still not a fan. (Not a slight against Barrowman as I think he's great, but they give him garbage to work with.)

Sure, one of the most disappointing things about the MCU is that the villains are bad.

I'm still frustrated that they made Ultron so menacing and interesting in the trailers but still made him a wise-cracking not intimidating bad guy.

Comparing it to the Marvel TV shows it gets much more difficult though.

Didn't a couple of Marvel's top brass say they weren't. gonna need more than casual referecenes in the show.

Yup. For now. That doesn't meant it isn't part of the larger universe. Agents of SHIELD and the Netflix shows still exist in the same universe with the films despite any behind the scenes problems that have arisen between the top brass.

At least you can talk. Who are you?

They've said it's unlikely that the characters from the television shows and movies will crossover.

That doesn't mean it's not in the same universe.

exactly.

It's a TV vs. movie thing rather than DC vs. Marvel, the DCEU will struggle to ever to ever top Kingpin, television is just a better medium for fleshed out villains. It's also why a performance like Health Ledger as Joker is so exceptional.

And it is not even close. Loki is the only one that is somewhat memorable.

Zod is one of the better parts of Man of Steel, Bane is memorable as well, even the campy villains from the bad Batman films are remembered.

Purple Man, Kingpin, Punisher are up to par with CW villains. MCU Netflix > Arrowverse in general.

Movie villains are hit or miss, sure.

Kingpin was a giant crybaby. Manu/Wells>Kingpin anyday. Now the Purple man would be a different topic.

Right, because Flash keeps churning out one speedster after another, I'm sure that makes for very compelling characters with the same exact power again and again...

I think you are misreading what I am typing. "For now" means that we haven't had any major crossover with the larger MCU. That's all. It doesn't mean it won't happen. There just aren't any plans for it. It's still part of the MCU and should be included in this discussion. You can't dismiss it because it conveniently supports your claim.

As for the topic, I think CW has had more good villains but MCU has had select great villains including Loki, Kingpin, Kilgrave, Grant Ward and AIDA. Agents of SHIELD has had some particularly great villains.

It's still an issue with the MCU films though. They have been weak on villains.

This gonna be a viscous thread.

I do think CW wins, but simply because it's had way more time to develop them. I think kingpin alone is better than like 90% of CW villains.

Edit: Oh, MCU only. Well then CW wins hands down because of reasons said above.
