Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter XX, and Dead Rising 4 all below Capcom's expectations

You kno I really love the Dead Rising games...

1... 2... even 3 was galf decent.

But you bring back Frank and give him a new voice and what not... and I was concerned. I miss the old Frank but the problem with this game wasn't he protagonist... everything in it just felt off... the movement was sluggish in a new way... I don't like what you did woth the ending...

And the marketing around the whole thing was just shitty...

Just give us a game where Chuck and Frank or Frank and Veronica (was that her name?) Team up.

Oh well too late. I'm never gunna get another now, right?

Maybe Capcom was hoping for more casuals getting into RE7, by creating a game that could be popular on Twitch or YouTube.

I can see RE7 getting up there if the DLC is good. The game already surpassed its budget not long after it released so I'm hopeful that RE8 will continue the survival horror.

3.5 million for Resident 7 is a great result considering they revolutionized the series and took an additional risk by making it more of a horror game rather than an (co-op ;)) action game. I have to admit I was wrong about RE7. I never believed it will sell a few million copies, because other horror games are struggling in sales or they're very niche products on purpose.

i wonder if resi7 would have sold more if they :
Added more variety of weapons
Added more enemy types
Didn't release/drip feed a bunch of puzzle demos that weren't representative of the actual game.

RE8 back to 3rd person.

I hope not but I have a nagging doubt that this might end up being the case. A lot of younger fans were upset because RE7 was looking to be nothing like 4, 5, and 6. Sure, 4, 5, and 6 weren't exactly like the first three games but newer fans probably don't know nor care.

As for Dead Rising 4: Lol. That thing was pretty dead in the water (comparatively) given the lukewarm reception to Dead Rising 3 and the pre-release reveal that "Frank West" isn't the same character fans have come to know and love. Plus then it turned out to just be a bit of a turd in general even without the whole Frank West nonsense.

The DLC was shit and a scam. The free DLC was delayed and I have no idea if they can even release a Lost In Nightmare quality DLC for VII.

Screaming a bit at how Capcom made the effort to transform Resident Evil into the most pure and distilled form of every single horror game that is doing hot right now with the YouTube and Twitch audience and still managing to sell less than the target that was already pretty low compared to RE6.

The only not surprise there is Dead Rising 4 flopping because that one is just a pure mess and almost nobody wanted it.

Oh well, better luck next time.

Based on resi 5 and 6 sales, yes.
Yeah, but I have a hard time believing RE7 had a similar budged. I mean, assuming they didn't blow much money and time on experimentation before the actual production of the final product started, I just can't see it. RE7 is a very short game (specially compared with RE6).

When did this meme start?

Damn I hope they stick with a similar formula for RE8. RE7 was one of the greatest gaming experiences I had in my life. I doubt RE8 would top it since it wouldn't be a new VR experience but RE7 was good on top of being in VR.

Their problem is that they didn't do enough to cultivate new ips this generation. They are pretty much screwed going forward because people eventually gets tired of their iterated franchises.

So Resi 8 is gonna return to the Resi 5/6 style of blockbuster action movie dumbfuckery? Hell, they might as well bring Alice from the movies into the games at this point just to cement the series status as the Direct-to-DVD Steven Segal movies of video games.

I'm a hugh Resident Evil Fan, but Resident Evil 7 was nothing for me because of the 1st Person view and lack of beloved Characters. I understand that they wanted to try something new, but for me they tried to much. Resident Evil 7 felt not like a Resident Evil.

I really hope this doesn't affect Capcom's decision to continue making mainline Resident Evil titles Survival Horror. Resident Evil 7 was definitely the right direction, loved it. They need to keep going further down that path for the main RE games. Hope REmake 2 delivers.

With Dead Rising 4 Capcom grinds another franchise into the ground. I can't see how the series can recover from this point. Are they going to bother to release it on PlayStation 4?

Not shedding any tears for Dead Rising 4, though RE7 being below expectations are a shame.

Hope the next RE is at least third person; I prefer the survival horror to the action, but I just don't want to keep playing these games in first person. Also hope DR4 bombing like this ensures that any Frank appearance in crossovers in the future will be Dead Rising 1 Frank.

I've played the Banned Footage stuff and while they may be a little cheap, they are a lot of fun. I was mostly talking about the free DLC and the episode that comes with the season pass which seems to be quite substantial from what we know.

What the fuck is about to happen to Capcom Vancouver, Dead Rising is all they make and couldn't even make a good one?

RE7 did 3.5 mil in a few months. That's not really bad. RE8 gonna go full 3rd person.

Now Monster Hunter is the interesting. What is the future of that franchise, the 3DS is on its last legs. Time for them to invest all that money it has been racking in over the past few years into a new title for the Switch.

Since the reveal? I remember how much people talked about how derivative looked.

Hell, I thought the game was going to sell gangbusters because all the streamers and youtubers I followed were doing Lets Plays of the game and a lot of my friends irl were talking about it.

Man this hurts, as a huge Dead Rising series fan it probably means we won't get a 5th game.

Yes 4 was a massive drop down in quality and fun, but I didn't hate playing it, it was just pretty soulless, less is more I feel.

I was hoping 5 would be a few steps back in the direction of the original couple of games.

People don't realize how good a selling point 'coop action game' is for mass market. I don't see RE5 and 6 being topped in Capcom sales for quite a while. RE7 might have put it back on the map for critics and disillusioned survival horror fans, but the potential audience compared to 'coop action game' is much smaller.

I hope this means they have stuff in the works for action RE fans.

If RE8 does go back to 3rd person I just hope they take what they learned from 7 and create a pretty rounded horror/ action experience.

Yeah, I think Ghost Recon: Wildlands proved that out recently as well. Metacritic of 71, but by far the best selling game so far this year, and showing great legs too.

Outside of Nintendo, Capcom has the best stable of IPs. They don't really need new ones, they need to bring back old ones and do them justice. People have been asking for a new Power Stone, Darkstalkers, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, you name it for a very long time. Build a team and give them a proper budget and time and they can do some things.

Resi 6 was much further from expectations at this point in its lifetime, so I don't know why people are expecting them to go back to 3rd person action with RE8. Capcom are just notorious for overestimating sales for their games.

I don't think RE 8 will go back to being a TPS. they missed the mark by 500k which is not bad. Also i bet it took much less to develop this game than re 6. So overall all things factored in I think RE7 did well profit wise.
