Is Street Fighter V Worth Buying Now?

You'll get both in KOF14. KOFs story mode is just 2 minutes of cheap CGI played over arcade mode. And a few extra pictures depending on the team you choose. Then there's time trial mode, a mission mode to practice shitty commands, I think there's an online mode, dead as fuck now.

KOF14 has more characters than SFV. That's it. SFV trounces it in terms of single player content, visuals, online, etc... I know it's all cool to hate SFV for some people, fucked up launch and Capcom being inept regardless, but these are the facts. KOF has its niche, if you're really big into fighters and want to play around with a ton of characters then it's a more sensible choice.

The fact that it has arcade mode at all already puts it way above SFV. I don't hate SFV, I just have zero incentive to go back to it and I used to play online too. I just really think KOFXIV is the better game overall. Visuals are bad yeah and online is dead because unfotunately all people know is Street Fighter (GG doesn't fare that well too, but it's better than KOF), but it still came out as a more fleshed out game with a tiny budget from a reviving SNK (and some help from Sony) than Capcom and god knows how much money they put into the game. I honestly find it sad, I wanted to like SFV a whole lot. Maybe I'll come back to it eventually, but right now I have no desire to grind for FM so I can test a character that I may or may not click with

If you have some friends you can play with, go for it.

If you don't, and you want a complete product, you should try to get Guilty Gear XRD : Revelator instead. It's 14 bucks on US PSN i think, best value you can get : Lot of solo content, great game, great mechanics, probably one of the best tutorial ever, great ost.

MKX is also a great complete product. Injustice 2 is coming in 3 weeks too, and it will be packed with content.

Revelator is a deal right now on PSN but if you didn't get them while they were free, both Kum and Dizzy are almost $20 together.

They're better off buying Rev vanilla and waiting for Rev 2 update to save money since Kum and Dizzy are already included and Raven is unlocked from the start in addition to having Baiken and Answer.

Game is still meh on a lot of fronts. If you're not super into fighters and more in depth mechanical issues aren't going to bother you it's probably fine on a sale somewhere.

People recommending KOF on gaf mostly don't play it.

This. At least reccomend games with significant single player content beyond an bare-bones arcade mode or a healthy online community as an alternative to SFV. MKXL, GGXrd :Revelator, BBCF, even Skullgirls have a significant amount of SP content.

The deluxe edition is on sale right now for $40 and it has 24 out of the 28 characters playable right off the bat among other things in that earlier post of mine.

I mean that's fine? Like I said for somebody that's not into fighters too deep that just wants something to play a sale is good. If somebody is looking to seriously sit down and play a fighting game for awhile it's a bit of a different story depending on what you're looking for.

The OP is making a GAF thread in gaming side rather than hanging out with the FGC OTs so I'm assuming they fall into the former camp like most of the site.

SFV is awesome, despite its lack of single player content. It's one of my favourite games ever, to be honest.

yep lol. Also don't forget how "3s is an amazing game" that nobody plays lol.
I don't see how that's equatable? 3S is an amazing game, just no longer in any way a contemporary one. There isn't any game out there that's gone 18+ years unchanged and kept some sizable mainstream community.

If content and the single-player experience are OP's concerns, I would recommend waiting until next month to get Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 instead.

For multiplayer, yes.

Story-wise/singleplayer stuff is a bit crap, but I never cared about that in the first place.

I remember there was an exploit that allowed you to get free premiums/colors from the psn store. I think it had something to do with messing around with your router/modem settings. Capcom caught on and threatened actions against anyone who did the exploit. Hilarious seeing the reddit community's meltdown and trying to justify risking their accounts over cosmetic shit.

and the end of they day, the community ended up falling for capcom's trap.

"IF I GET BANNED I AM DONE WITH CAPCOM!"

Capcom: "Well I guess you're done with sony since you stole from the psn store and that IS a bannable offense...how about you just give us your money?"

"...ok"

What does this have to do with anything.

People recommending KOF on gaf mostly don't play it.

"KOF is superior to SFV in every measurable way."

"Then go play KOF."

"I'd rather play SFV but bitch about it continuously."

For the $40 it is on PSN for all of the characters etc now I'd say 100% yes. You'll get some good times out of the cinematic story mode for a few hours, and online is now in a really good place.

Yes it is worth buying now. You have a 3 - 4 hours story mode, characters story mode, trials (for each character, they are adding more trials with upcoming patch) and survival mode.

Once you finish or get bored of single player content jump to online and you will get weekly challenges that give you fight money.

Yeah but the love for it is overblown. People here just like to bring it up because they think it gives them some arcade cred or something.

Most of the people who bring it up are probably younger than 3rd strike i bet. it's just cuz of daigo parry these days.

People like amazing skill demonstrarion that a game allows to occur and then attribute that to the game being good. Very bizarre!

Also that's some "true gamer" stuff right there huh

Don't do this unless you want barebones single player mode, convoluted hand hurting motions for moves, and a dead ass online community.

SFV is on sale on PSN. The game and both season passes for $40. It's a good game, plays good, and is easy to get into, and will continue to get updates with a healthy community for a long time.

If your main interest is playing other people then its worth it. Personally having a blast since day one and I havnt played a fighting game heavily in 10-15 years prior.

For single player only, Im not so sure. You get
- Story mode: Isnt that good to be honest. Mainly because the way the fights are done is really badly implemented. It just throws you into a fight with no warning thats only 1 round. Pretty much every fight is as a different character so you never get used to anyone you are using.
- Pre-Story mode for each character. These are OK at best. Super easy fights but some of the pre-storys are fun or interesting.
- Challenges which I do like (series of 10 combos to complete for each character)
- Survival - kinda bad. Has an interesting gimmick with spending points on buffs but is let down by having no endless mode and terrible AI ramp ups. Has difficulty modes with more people to beat on each one (easy = 10, medium = 30 etc)
- Vs CPU: pretty bad. Just choose a single match against a CPU. No sub for a traditional arcade mode.

You prob have about 20+ hours of content there if you do all story stuff, easy survival on all characters and all challenges. So if that sounds fun then go for it. But dont expect a typical arcade mode or a bounty of single player modes yet. Apparently more is coming but we dont know when.

Game is becoming a bit more popular, especially with sfv being hosted on eleague as well as being showcases on tv
And shaq, reggie bush and few other celebrities will be duking it out to show it love in a few days. If you need someone to practice with, add my ign "Sometimes".We can spar in lobby matches

Get USF4 instead. Unlike SF5 it has zero load times, always stable 60fps, Sagat, Fei Long, Dudley, Adon, Cody, Guy, Tsumujis and very good balance.

And it still has a large playerbase which is growing again because a lot of players don't like SF5.

Only plusses of SF5 in my opinion: Chun Li and Dhalsim have a better moveset.

Depends. The single-player is absolute trash. There are some hardcore fans who will tell you the story mode is OMG SO GOOD and the survival mode isn't that bad, but in the long run both are shit. So, that throws single-player as a consideration out the window.

All that's left is multiplayer. Its good when it works. However, CFN is shit so the multiplayer rarely works. I'd say buy the game and hope you're one of the lucky ones whose internet connection is able to handle CFN.

Single player modes are garbage. Even the story mode where you spend majority of the time watching cringe cinematics and play one round battles with Final Fights enemies.

At least the online / offline community is active, so if it's your focus, go for it and pray the CFN will be in a good shape at last after the upcoming patch.

----------------------------------
Don't buy KoFXIV if you want a seamless online experience. The netcode is decent enough, but the rest is really lackluster in term of functionality, too many bugs and missteps discouraged many new players in this already niche franchise, so very small active base.

You say that, but it seemed pretty barren on PS4 when I checked last week. I can't speak for the PC version, though.

If you plan on wasting away dozens of hours in training mode so that you don't get your ass beaten too badly online, yes.

I heard there is a discount for rev 2 if you have revelator 1.
Does that apply to having the physical version installed?, because I think that was sold cheap somewere and if the discount is significant it might be a decent idea to get that if the discount works with that.

I heard SF4 gets rid of old games fundamentals, like reactionspeed is not a as good thing anymore, I havent got the game but dont't like the removal of skillfactors to benefit blind RPS.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag

He's right, though. When it comes to online, Street Fighter V is where it's at. I'd love to play more fighting games, but too many titles just come out either dead on arrival or with communities that shrink down to next to nobody online. And it sucks. (Current) Capcom fighters always have plenty of people playing. I suspect Tekken 7 should have a pretty healthy online community as well. Hoping Injustice 2 is the same but am not expecting it.

It's easy, really. If you get fun out of progressing through modes etc: no, absolutely still not worth.

If you mainly like to compete with others and get your fun out of understanding the game and improving: go for it.

It's a fantastic fighting game because of how well it plays, but it completely lacks the polish in almost every other area.

I personally loved it from the start but thats because I don't need SP content.

I would pass, that's coming from a fighter fanatic. I personally never could get into the game. Has kind of a SF3 feel to it. Some will love it, I don't.

The arcade mode is what I usually play the most... there is none, so it collected dust and never really cared about its online.

Hell no. Game is trash

but it IS the most active online fighting game on the market. All those other games KOF, GG etc are dead as hell

Yep, and even then I don't think you'll find a better deal in the next few months, even during the year I'd say, so if you go for it right now you'll have access to future updates and features instantly :D
