PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Really interested in getting into this game, but I'm not sure if my PC will be capable of playing what seems to be a pretty unoptimized and CPU-intensive game.

Intel i5 2500K (hey, it's been good to me so far!)
Geforce 970
8 gigs RAM
1080p monitor

So, can the game run well for me, or should I wait for it to get better optimized? Any helpful settings tips?

Have a friend using a first gen I7 and he gets occasional massive drops to 7 fps but hovers around 30-40 with draw distance lowered significantly. The 2500k should work semi-ok.

1.3GB patch is live. Patch notes below once again if anyone missed them a couple days back.

Client Performance Improvement
Improved the drop in FPS when firing a gun or driving a vehicle

Gameplay
Rolled back the item spawn balance
Reduced the amount of health lost when a character is ejected from a flipping motorbike

Bug fixes
Fixed a bug that caused the door to open towards the player
Fixed a bug causing incorrect lighting on the 2x scope
Fixed a bug that caused loot to be not shown in the inventory when a character first obtained it
Fixed a bug that caused crossbow attachments not to show up in the vicinity pane
Fixed a bug that caused the sound to stutter

Sigh. Can't get that solo win. Have come 2nd ~10 times. Just then I had the AWM and shot him in the chest but it didn't kill him, then he somehow 2 shot me with a SCAR when I had Level 3 helm, level 2 chest.

2500k @ 4.1 ghz here, but I have a 1070. Game runs mostly great (ocasional stuttering when dropping down but nothing too serious) at 60fps. Never noticed any massive drop so far.

I also found this:

I think you should be fine (also, the devs are working hard on the performance so it will probably get better down the road. Probably.).

Lmao, this would have been useful yesterday when one of our guys drove the bike and it ramped, hit the roof of a house, flipped and exploded.

Looks like some new art assets were found for some potential new skins. Sounds like some are worried about the game going the h1z1 route with these. Personally I think any over the top flashy designs are best left to that game.

It's not like they hid the fact they were going to give this game a secondary cosmetic market. At least you can sell this stuff on the Steam marketplace directly and not just crates like with H1Z1

I would be more concerned about all that survival shit in the gallery.

They already said that they don't want flashy skins. Only realistic stuff.

After early access the crate system will become like in CS:GO (keys needed to open crates)

It may or may not be the solution to that, but it will be the cause of having to play with worse performance and a worse control method

I think the game is more in need for optimization rather than being really demanding.
And honestly i would rather play this with a controller, i prefer TPS this way.

Stuff like these are what I was referring to. It's not too bad but it definitely would make the game world look a little less realistic to me. But the fact that you can sell this stuff on the market is fine by me.

I watched the Giant Bomb guys playing this game and shit, I think I shall try it when it comes to PS4. It seems dope.

I'm new to this type of game. I had never heard of H1Z1.

Got into the top 3, shot a guy with a 7.62 round from a M24, switch to my 416, shoot him 2-3 times with that before he turns around and kills me quickly. Don't like that, none of that.

I still think it may hit xbox game preview this fall as they can get away with it being buggier in there.

We'll see though, all depends if they actually hit their September goal.

Is this one of those games that's going to stay in "Early Access" for a decade?
They said they hope for it to go full release within 6 months of going EA and so far, with their current track record of pushing out patches, I can see them hitting that mark - or possibly sooner.

This is one of the most confident devs ive seen for this type of game.

Most have no clue or give no promises as to when they will leave early access.

Was surprised to see them give out a an answer

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
”We don't expect Early Access to last longer than six months."

I can see them hitting that timeframe with all the updates they do. You don't usually see that with these types of games.

I will be glad when there's custom servers for everybody and first person vanilla servers are common. Every time someone makes a custom FP server now it's always got wacky stuff like crossbows and pistols only, or the circle sped up to 3x speed so everyone dies to the circle anyway and there's no point.

Eager to see the new weapon balancing, played a few games last night and finding decent weapons or scopes was a chore. Went half the game with basically a pistol and machete.

My hopes are that they allow you to go back into matchmaking more quickly after the game is over. I have nothing against the current time needed to boot a game up, just would be nice instead of going back to the main menu, you could just matchmake from the game results screen.

I finally bit the bullet and got this yesterday on Steam and played several games. On my seventh game I managed to get lucky and get first place (but only in a game of 88 players). Ohhh boy are those last few minutes intense! I don't think a game has ever quite got my heart pumping the way that this one has. The circle constricting so small and forcing everyone into a tight area at the end is raise the tension to an insane level. After the match I had to stop playing because my hands were shaking too much.

This game still has a lot of jank, but I think it's saying something that I'm still enjoying it so much. The fear and tension that pours over you when you hear a pair of footsteps near you manages to make this a very unique experience.

In one match I managed to not find any weapons after checking multiple houses. I somehow managed to survive longer than in most other matches though. Running across an open field with no way to defend myself while trying to get into the bounds of the white circle is just utter fear.

I'm very excited to see how this game improves as they continue development. Does anybody know if additional maps are planned?

I've got a 2600k, but i'm running it at 1080p fullscreen windowed on a 4k tv, so I think it's rendering more; but I get 40-50fps lol. If I do just windowed, I have issues where I think I'm moving the "cursor" to the edges/outside the window and it'll resize or lose focus, so it's pretty bad during gunfights.

Not ideal.

I should really check how it runs on an actual 1080 screen.

edit - moved it to my normal screen, I get 60s or with various settings.

I had an amazing epic game today but sadly shadow play wasn't on so I can't share it. Ended at number 5 but so many amazing crazy situations and kills happened that I'm not even mad. Love this game when it's not overly laggy.

I lucked out and made it to a house that remained in the center of the circle until 10 players were left. It had a large attic where I could hide and take out players coming up the steps. Unfortunately I was killed right after the circle forced me to leave the house.
