It hurts all over again. But, it looks incredible.

Logan will be seen in a new light next month.

Director James Mangold has revealed a black and white version of the film will be hitting theaters May 16.

"Suggestion. Hard core B&W loving LOGAN fans should not make any plans on the evening of May 16th," Mangold tweeted. "Won't be on a TV. And the answer is no. To make a great B&W version of a film, the whole thing's gotta be regraded & timed shot by shot," he added.

Mangold also revealed that a black and white version will be available on the home entertainment release, but confirmed it will also be in theaters: "Yes, but it will be on big screens on the 16th."

The move comes after weeks of speculation and follows in the footsteps of a Black and Chrome edition of Mad Max: Fury Road.

Bad news for international fans of Hugh Jackman's final film starring as the Marvel mutant: it will only be available in U.S. theaters.

Logan, released last month, has earned more than $604 million at the global box office and is the best-reviewed X-Men movie in the Fox franchise's history.

I'd be more excited if I lived near somewhere that was going to play it. :(

I've seen people here on GAF say they won't watch old movies because they aren't in color. Why is this a trend?

It's a pretty awesome way to revisit a film. Some people enjoy it.

The Mist is probably the best B&W "redux" I've seen, but it was also envisioned as such from the get-go.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I'm a huge fan of black-and-white photography, and so I find the recent trend toward showing films without color to be very fascinating.

Too many of the cell-phone generation think B&W is just a filter on your phone, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Quality B&W photography requires an especially keen eye for contrast and lines, and the equipment to handle it - in the digital age, that means a native monochrome sensor without any color array or a supremely tricky film simulation.

Glad to see this is going to be re-graded shot-by-shot... they'll get my money.

I chose Beauty and the Beast over seeing Logan a 2nd time, and then the latter stopped showing. Stupid 90s music got me.

Someday I hope to see a film where black & white elevates a film that was already released in color.

Cus black and white can look pretty cool.

Also, especially concerning Logan, all the early photos we got were in black and white, so a lot of people really got into the look. You had a lot of people wondering if there would be a B&W version because of that.

B&W is still a very effictive format. Haven't seen Fury Road in B&W but I can see why Logan might suit it. Will try to catch it in cinemas if they show it over here.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Some movies are actually enhanced quite a bit by the Black and White presentation. The Mist was incredible in B&W. It really helps set the mood and makes it feel like a monster movie from the 50's and in my opinion actually helped hide some of the weaker SFX scenes. The actual mist in The Mist was especially evocative and oppressive in black and white.

I haven't seen Fury Road in B&W but I'm sure the effect is similar.

Pre-Logan (PL) I really liked the wolverine (well, 3/4 of it anyway). I want back to see it PL (post Logan) and it was 3/4s as terrible.

Pretty excited to check this B&W cut out. If I can't catch a screening I'll definitely catch it when it comes out on home video.

The Mist was great in B&W.

(Still despise that ending though.)

This gives me an excuse to watch the movie again. Cool. Don't understand where the demand or idea came from, but whatever.

And Mad Max Black and Chrome is not just another special edition of the BR/DVD? I might have to check that out, but with such amazing cinematography and color in the movie, it feels like a disgrace to be remade into black and white.

I'd watch Logan again with or without colour.

I guess I'll have to wait for the home release if I want to see this version though.

I didn't see the point with Mad Max since it features such beautiful use of color, but maybe Logan will look more striking in B&W.

Well not getting the bluray day one then. Thanks for the head up Fox, going to wait for the eventual B&W double dip version then.

maybe tomorrow it rains
I missed the original run due to thing being busy during that time, but if this is playing within an hour of where I'm at.

Best superhero movie of the summer officially now too whew

I think the Vegas stuff will not really lend itself to the black and white photography tbh but the Texas and forest stuff will look so great. Not to mention that depressing ass limo driver prologue
