Super glad to hear this turned out well after the initial negative reaction. Another to add to the endless Netflix list, haha, I'll get to it soon enough!

- The Watch podcast: ‘Fargo’ and the Prestige-TV Debate & Justin Simien of ‘Dear White People’ (Ep. 145)
The Ringer’s Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald discuss the third season of Fargo, the series as a whole, and how it fits into the discussion of prestige TV (1:20). Then, Chris sits down with Justin Simien to discuss his new Netflix show, ‘Dear White People’ (20:25).
Interview with Justin Simien. Both of the hosts like the show a lot and recommend sticking with it through Ep 5 in case you're not feeling it.

Just finished the whole thing. I really enjoyed it, but it's 3am so I need to crash now.

Episode 10 spoiler
The ending was a bit bittersweet I guess, but that fits the show.

This is phenomenal.

God base you Netflix, god base you.

only on episode 3 so far, but man... when the first episode closes to the Celestial Choir's "Stand On The Word", I stood up and started dancing [and am now contemplating going dancing this weekend, ha!].

Absolutely loving it.

Though I am kinda distracted by how much of UCLA is in this. Way more than most films/shows that just use the Royce Hall quad and Kerckhoff steps.

I'm ten minutes in and I'm hooked. Did not expect her to be
banging a white boy.
There's a lot of places they can take that storyline in a series like this and I hope they don't copout. Never seen the movie, but there's already a lot of depth and potential so far.

I've watched the first two episodes and it seems to be at least as good as the movie so far. Possibly better. Logan Browning is doing an excellent job of replacing Tessa Thompson as Sam. It doesn't hurt that she's stunning.

I worked from home today, so I marathoned the entire season today. I just couldn't stop watching. This was absolutely an amazing ride...

Episode 5, based around so far the most uninteresting character..

And then suddenly shit escalates way too fast. My knees became weak and palms sweaty mad quick.

This has been some quality television.

you speak so well
I liked the movie a lot but this is on a completely different level five episodes in. The character focused episode structure is a great choice for the show, it really helps to have all these characters even more fleshed out, in particular CoCo and Reggie. I thought I'd miss Tessa Thompson because she was excellent in the film but Logan Browning is knocking it out of the park. The show just keeps getting better each episode, 5 was fantastic, Barry Jenkins did not disappoint there.

Just finished episode 1. Yep I'm totally going to end up binge watching this. That part about white people asking what are you? got me good. That was me throughout all of high school. Like I swear I'd be asked that nearly every day even from other minorities.

Jenkins did episode 6.

I assume this picks up some time in the middle of the movie? Haven't watched it yet (my binge watch for Sunday) but noticed someone mentioned the blackface party.

all those white people were upset about this show but it really wasn't FOR them. surprisingly enough cause I felt the movie was for them.

like other than the annoying white boyfriend there was little to none white centeredness in the show. and the plot and characters can actually stand on their own without constantly quipping satirically about white people. ( and don't get me wrong I enjoy that)

I had my doubts but I'll recant. super great show, blew my expectations out the water

Liked this show overall. All series spoilers.

Most of the characters aren't very likable though. Joelle is probably the most likable. Well and of course Lionel, his episodes were the best episodes IMO.

Gabe wasn't unlikable, he was just kind of there...
He never really did anything to warrant his presence other than be white. Also, Sam was pretty awful to him so I'm not sure what she expected when he left at the end.
She cheats on him with Reggie to see if she likes Reggie then decides she doesn't so that somehow makes it okay?

And I really don't like Reggie.
The first time we see him he was just trying to force himself into Sam's room, then he spent the entire series pining for Sam. If he wasn't such a good looking guy most people would find him super creepy, in my opinion. He manages to do this while at the same time being super full of himself.

Coco
started annoying but she ended as kind of cool even though she was mostly acting against everyone.

All in all like the show. If they make a second season I will probably watch it.

It took me a minute to recognize Nia Long, didn't recognize her with the long hair.

I'm three episodes in and I like it. It's already spurred a conversation about race with my mother. Hopefully others will give the show a shot, especially the one's most likely to shit on it without knowing anything about it.
