Zelda BotW DLC Pack 1 Detailed (Hard mode, trials, clothes, custom fast travel point)

Hmm, since the heros path is retroactively, that means that information is already there in the non DLc game, right? So they basically lock surfacing it behind payed DLc?

Nothing mind-blowing, but we knew DLC pack 2 would be the interesting one.

I'd agree there's nothing mind-blowing in itself, but I think this is more than I was expecting from DLC1. I agree that the hard mode itself is a little disappointing, but the surrounding features make up for that as being rather more than I was imagining.

I assume Dual Audio is going to be a baseline addition, rather than a DLC inclusion. I wonder what else is. And I wonder if the game has been quietly storing the data as it goes to allow for Hero's Path in the future (at the simplest level, it does at least store chest state, so if it also stores *when* a chest was looted, it can put something reasonable together)

At the rate I'm going, I'm probably going to still be playing up to the release date, anyway (80 shrines down and only half of the Big Tasks done)

Edit: Oh, I missed how Dual Audio is phrased, didn't realise that was in the game straight away via a patch.

The new costumes and the trail of the sword or whatever sound cool. The rest is meh but it's still more then I expected from the first DLC pack. Hope the second blows us away though.

Didn't they say they had people playtest the game and saw what paths they took? Looks like they turned that dev tool into something everyone can use to see.

But yeah basically that is what they are doing.

Cool DLC, will probably wait until the 2nd DLC to actually replay the game though. Kinda burned out on it after almost 200 hours. Also hoping there's more to Hard Mode that isn't mentioned here.

Especially in a game that already suffers from an annoyingly horrible weapon system where weapons break with the mention of more than 1 or 2 enemies.

The only time im ok with an enemy chewing through my inventory is the tests of strength considering the mini guardians drop new weapons/the chest usually has a strong weapon.

Hard Mode is really gonna be "use all the best amiibo weapons" the mode.

I don't get the urge to transform zelda from an adventure to some kind of survival game. But apples and oranges I guess.

Not if completing the trial gives you an unbreakable master sword as a reward though.

Wait, are those Octoroks still alive?

Sorry of this has already been asked, but can Hard Mode be turned on even if I'm 70 hours into the game, or do you have to start a new game to activate it?

Sounds amazing. Especially the new costumes and the hero's path. Nintendo once again shows how DLC is done right.

I'm just a bit concerned on how to locate those chests.

Don't worry, just give the internet an hour to document every location with a video, unless they are randomly generated, which would be cool.

Heros Path and the Korok mask should make it a lot easier to find seeds after playing a ton!

I mean, I'm personally pleased with it, but come on. Let's not do this again. DLC1 is by no means remarkable among other DLC in the industry and there's been plenty of non-Nintendo DLC with a better bang for your buck.

To be honest, I don't even expect DLC2 to come close to matching the value of say, the Assault on Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2.

I was disappointed that there was no Tingle in this game, but this is perhaps the next best thing.

This content is much more than I expected, which bodes well for the new content in batch two. I suppose hard mode can be toggled on or off? I hope it's not for new games only. I know a lot of people seem down on the combat trials, but I think they could be a nice challenge if they structure them in unique ways.

This is nothing that hasn't been done by a lot of publishers before, if anything other games have far more interesting Hard Modes and more meaty, varied additional playable content (not just battle rooms but whole new regions with a lot more story and quests). If anything this is surprisingly light & lame for Nintendo DLC so far, in comparison to Splatoon's FREE DLC and Mario Kart 8's incredible value per $ DLC.

Possibly if the 1 level higher than in normal mode holds true all the way to the toughest enemies, could be that there are new versions of enemies anyway.

What's stronger than a silver enemy? A gold enemy!

Baby Pink Gold Moblin confirmed.

Well, I'm not saying they are the only ones doing it right, but I have yet to be disappointed by a DLC made from Nintendo. And DLC 2 will have a new original story. If that will be just a 2 hour quest line, the DLC (season pass) overall still surpasses what most other developers charge for.
Just my humble opinion.

Btw what's with all the Tingle hate?

There is a
Tingel
though! :p

We don't know how hard mode works yet. Hopefully it's a toggle, and more importantly, hopefully it comes with the addition of at least one new save file slot. As I said before, the Borderlands style would be neat too. Have your save be split into two saves - the main save and a new game+ hard mode save, with gear shared between the two, but unique progress saves.

Half stoked for dual audio half disappointed I already beat the game in English.
Then I was stoked again because I was planning to replay it on hard mode, which I thought was going to be a great master quest style job considering it's paid DLC. Aaand it's a cop-out.

Considering the glut of extra content in the pack though, I'm sure I'll be more keen on it when the Winter pack is out. Worth the cost for sure at this point.

And I'm really perplexed on why Majora's Mask being wearable is a thing now. It was the only mask you couldn't wear in the original game, and fittingly so given its the villain, so why is this and the Young Link nendoroid changing that? A lot of different masks to choose from (or give us a full skull kid outfit!)

New story.
New dungeons.
New armour.
And more.

Yeah, that TOTALLY sounds awful.

All of this sounds great apart from hard mode.

I hope hard mode is better than what it sounds like, but I'm not holding my breath on that

The only thing disappointing is the Hard mode. Seems a little too safe and by the books. They could have done lots of things to make it harder.

Masks/Armor: Wasn't expecting this at all. Wonder if they have additional bonuses besides the aesthetics. Bunny Hood would be particularly cool.

Waiting for it to turn out that the Majora's Mask is the real hard mode. The Blood Moon doesn't rise... it falls.

Unless there's information they're holding back, Hard Mode sounds super disappointing.

Like I said though, this DLC isn't by any means remarkable. It's QoL stuff, some cosmetic stuff, and a challenge mode. So pulling out "Nintendo doing it right" makes it sound like you have a limited perspective here.

And if the quest line is 2 hours, dear God, that would be incredibly disappointing, and certainly wouldn't be beyond standard value propositions. It wouldn't even meet them. That would make both DLC1 and DLC2 combined less valuable than just the $15 House of Wolves DLC in Destiny, and that was considered slightly overpriced. And any $10 Borderlands DLC, even the relatively skimpy ones, would be better value propositions.

lol, the hell? Step back and try again. No need for a knee-jerk fanboy reaction here.

First, I've posted the contents of DLC2 in this topic several times, so I'm quite aware, thank you. Second, I've posted that I personally am happy with DLC1, several times. Third, nothing in my post said that I felt DLC2 was awful. I'm just saying that I don't expect Nintendo to match the value of the Borderlands 2 Dragon Keep DLC, which had an 6-to-8-hour main questline, over 20 sidequests, a new raid boss, and tons of unique loot for $10 total. Which isn't to say that I expect DLC2 to be poor value proposition. I'm looking forward to it and expect it to be worth the price. I also don't think what we know of the DLC and can likely expect for DLC2 is some shining example of best-in-the-industry DLC that most developers just can't match. Which is fine, I'm just saying this placing Nintendo on a pedestal of superior DLC is a bit silly and narrow-scoped.

Hard mode sounds really crappy, the other stuff seems to be QoL improvements typical (that should be) of a free update.
The only interesting thing seems to be the hero path. Maybe the master sword throws light beams when you use it after that?

Now to wait to the dlc story.

The worst thing about this is that dlc1 is just what I feared and the price point is crap.

It already does fire beams, as long as you have full health.

New armor is meh unless they completely change something like the abilities of masks in Majora's Mask or something, instead of just stat boosts like the rest of the armors. New story's worth remains to be seen. Considering the main scenario of BOTW is fairly boring & bad, Nintendo needs to prove to us they can do anything worthwhile with storytelling in BOTW's world.

And if "new dungeons" means new shrines or a couple of new Divine Beast level dungeons, that ain't all that exciting. Not awful or anything, but nothing too noteworthy. Considering the disappointing nature of DLC Pack #1 (battle rooms is a bit light of an addition + a disappointing Hard Mode), I think it's not too surprising if people are a bit wary whether DLC Pack#2 can deliver or be equally disappointing if people keep expecting something more meaty and they fall short of expectations like with this DLC. Nintendo obviously CAN deliver great DLC as proven by earlier games' DLC, but this isn't too strong of a start so far. Not horrible but could have been better.
