Sony's actual quietness

These gifs are glorious haha. I'm feeling the E3 hype in my bones, booked the day off so looking forward to the Sony keynote at 2 bloody am. They have been on a roll with these keynotes since PS4 unveil, better not faulter now. I would scream if Kaz comes in all smug and starts the conference with that dance 😂

I'm in Norway during E3, but I've warned the girlfriend I might go missing for a few hours for Sony. Don't think I can push it for the other conferences, though, or to browse GAF.

Still, I'm excited!

Just curious, what are people expecting out of Sony this year at E3, need to update a gif.

Astounding new franchise from Sucker Punch
Dreams re-announced with substantial VR support
Days Gone, a much bigger game than expected
Too much time spent on Destiny 2
FROM software exclusive (for the sake of prediction, I'm saying NOT Bloodborne)
First gameplay reveal from Death Stranding
Incredible God of War demo closes the show

Likely Disappointments:
- Nothing new from The Last of Us
- Overall lack of PSVR
- All games demoed on PS4 Pro (and OG PS4 begins to suffer for it)

Hail Marys:
- PSVR redesign with new controllers
- PS Vita games emulated on PS4
- New Remote Play app for Android/iOS
- Some kind of mobile 1st party initiative in the spirit of what Nintendo is doing (but not necessarily location based)

All of this sounds likely to me (although they can spend as much time as they want on Destiny 2 and I won't mind)

I'll throw in support for PS1/PS2 Classics as well.

Haha, hahaha, how is that a hail Mary. most those games are already on the PS4 in the first place ported natively mind you and a Playstation TV exists.

The Vita hail mary is the biggest one. Sony can barely make PS2 classics work, forget about Vita.

You guys think they'll ever patch in PS1 support for PS4 at this point? I actually bought a lot of those games digitally. It stinks I have to keep another Playstation device hooked up just to play them.

Have Sony announced the date for the keynote? I want to put in for the day off also.

Just curious, what are people expecting out of Sony this year at E3, need to update a gif.

More from:
God of War
Days Gone
Spider-Man

Possibly Dreams?
Possibly Detroit: Become Human?

Reveal of From Software's next game (could be Bloodborne 2, could be a new IP)
Reveal of Sucker Punch's next game (a new IP)

Third party stuff from Destiny 2, COD, Battlefront 2, etc.

Nothing on Death Stranding or TLoU2 in my opinion.

Maybe a couple of new third party games (not necessarily exclusive) like Devil May Cry 5 or something from Square Enix.

Is it just me or things have been very quiet recently on Sony's side ? I mean since PSX, they have been radio silent while MS with Spencer have been very active in gaming medias.

Is it a Calm before Storm situation we are witnessing or are they a bit overconfident with their actual position in the market ?
Sure they are quiet, now..
2017 was sony's one man show, excluding Zelda botw

Uh, what? I said Liverpool.

I know that's who you were talking about. I was adding that they had been a wipeout and F1 factory through at least two generations, and that the new side project that you mentioned didn't probably look all that great so they canned it with the studio.

My whole point is they didn't diversify as a studio, which in part is on Sony for mis-managing them, but also you have to also take intiaitive for a studio which is considered a company. If you can't make a compelling argument to higher ups when they ask if you've been working on something else or present a case for more investment by parent company then part of it is on you.

Sucker punch, naughty dog, media molecule, (not owned by sony)insomniac try new thing's and don't need somebody's permission to playtest, or work on something while they work on a main budgeted game. If they had a rough script and a really early prototype that at least conveyed what they wanted to do project wise the higher ups would see the potential as long as the pitch was sound and game plan going forward was at least thought out to an extent budget wise to not affect support for current in production or post production products.

Those studios among other's even indie developers who have co-publishers are always doing that, and that's how you stay in the business.

Eh, how Sony has been doing things seems to be working for them, but I think they don't have enough stuff to equal what they showed in the past. I think its going to be an E3 2014 level of announcements, and not the "holy shit wtf is happening" E3's of 13,15 and 16)

Their first party announcement and follow-up are pretty strong (I expect us to see more of GOW, Days Gone and Spider-Man this year. I don't think TLOU Part 2 or Death Stranding will be shown)

But as for "NEW" announcements, I don't think what remaining first parties they have who haven't released something in a while (like Suckerpunch) are going to be coming out with a big mic drop moment (I like inFamous, but I wouldn't consider it or suckerpunch one of their killer studios) unless its a completely fresh new IP they will unveil.

At the same time, it feels like they have also announced what could be considered vaporware. This usually isn't first party related, but rather third party related, as FF7 Remake, KH3 and Shenmue 3 are still in development and we don't know when we will see those again. Some first party stuff like Dreams or Death Stranding if you count it also don't seem to be materializing any time soon

But they are also the platform of choice for the big AAA blockbusters, with Star Wars, COD and Destiny all backing Sony, so they are totally capable of resting on their laurels.

So from this rambling I've done, I expect this years Sony e3 to be a quieter one like in 2014, and not something crazy like 13,15 and 16. They will follow up on games like Spider-Man, Days Gone, and GOW. I don't think they will reveal many big "new" first party titles. They will probably showcase their third party stuff, but don't expect things like KH3 and FF7 remake Shenmue 3, Last of Us Part 2 to show up.

Death Stranding won't have any gameplay... but probably another tone trailer.

I think sony main point will be release dates, and few new games, but will be a very good e3, next year i think it will be a weak e3 to end the ps4 generation with gameplay of the last big games for ps4

I feel like Sucker Punch's new IP will definitely be there.

Release window for Days Gone

Release Date for God of War - Gameplay

There will probably be a surprise or two, something like Spiderman.

Oh, and Spiderman gameplay.

I'm sure it'll be a great show. Sony hasn't disappointed when it comes to E3s in a while.

Well:
I expect we'll see another showing of GOW hopefully. (really want some more environment/large scale stuff shown but nothing too spoiler heavy, like U4 did, though I don't think GOW series has ever done that)

Detroit: I expect a gameplay showing/date

Dreams: release/beta date

RDR2: I'm still on the fence as I think Rockstar from now on will show it through their own channels

COD WWII gameplay and deal details

Destiny 2 awkward standing stance stage demo

Ni No Kuni 2 Trailer perhaps

Days Gone: Hoping for more details, in the trailer there's aspect which look cool that I want to see more of. Questing/story etc

Spider-Man: Here's hoping.

Sucker Punch: It's about time.

From Software: I dunno, be a nice surprise, but I expect PSX.

I understand why someone would feel this way but I would reconsider.

This is nonsense. A bunch of games are still in development. That doesn't make them vaporware.

But they are also the platform of choice for the big AAA blockbusters, with Star Wars, COD and Destiny all backing Sony, so they are totally capable of resting on their laurels.
They'll be releasing several first party titles/exclusives along with those games you mentioned. If that is what you consider "resting on their laurels", sure.

You know, it probably is best to keep expectations at this level. It'll make the surprises even better.

I don't really want Death Stranding to show up.

Yeah. "Vaporware" was probably too harsh of a term. But I still doubt we will see anything regarding the games I mentioned.

This comment wasn't meant about their release schedule, but rather their E3 presentation. A lot of those games you are suggesting probably won't get any on screen presence asides from maybe a snipet in a montage. Hell Persona 5, Nioh and Gravity Rush 2 never got E3 presentation spotlight on them despite all being PS exclusive.

Yeah. I think its healthier to maintain these kinds of expectations (since if my low expectations are exceeded, then I consider the conference a huge success), because I couldn't believe Sony's E3 2016 because I thought there was no way they could top 2015.

I can understand this. It could give the impression that the games development is still in the early stages... but I love the Kojima "figure this thing out" metagame.

Days Gone, GOW, Destiny 2, Detroit, Spider man are strong possibilities

COD is 100% guaranteed since Sony is now the console of choice for COD

Sucker Punch showing something is a maybe (since it's been 3 years since Second Son... but it also took Sony Bend 4 years to show something after Golden Abyss)

Dreams I doubt

Ni No Kuni isn't a "e3 on stage" type of game, so I doubt it.

and RDR will probably be through their channels.

I was referring to your capitalised "LIVERPOOL", as if you were pointing out a spelling mistake or something.

Death Stranding needs to go away for 2 to 3 years. Kojima is going to be at every damn show till it's out and people will be tired of it.

From Software will definitely be on Sony's stage.
