After playing Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild I don't think Assassin's Creed can live up to the open world that Nintendo created and its exploration.

Ubisoft is known to screw up their open world. Assassin's Creed with its flag issues, Watch Dogs with icons of collectables providing that the map is empty and not worth exploring, and also the pointless collectables only to fuel the achievement 100% completionists. If it feels like a chore beyond my OCD there is no point in playing it. Those collectables littered doesn't add value but disupt the very immersion that it attempts to create. To this day despite having all the Assassin Creed games have I even finished them. I got so far as 3 hours before I put it down. Better games got in the way so I played those instead.

If this doesn't have a Modern Day story, then no thank you.

I already don't trust them to have improved upon the gameplay. Just give me a good story please.

Since Assassin's Creed Chronicles is already taken, I was hoping for Assassin's Creed: Reckoning, NEW Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Unleashed, Ultimate Assassin's Creed, Super Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 64, Assassin's Creed Zero, Assassin's Creed Mania, Assassin's Creed: Revenge or Assassin's Creed Extreme.

Well, Assassin's Creed: Origins will have to do.

No mention of Resurrection? Disappointed!

Ancient Egypt and naval combat aren't synonymous but whatever.

After Black flag I thought it would be cool if they took some of those elements and made a straight up pirate game, that would basically be a licence to print money.

I don't like the naval battles at all but I'm sure they are a crazy popular mechanic. Maybe not on GAF, but AC is a huge franchise with different people playing it.

This pirate game sounds cool though. Without all the AC baggage they could do some really cool stuff.

2017 has so much fighting for my wallet.

Destiny 2, Battlefront 2, AC:Origins, ME: Shadow of War, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, FE: Warriors, Xenoblade 2, Mario Rabbids RPG, Prey, and one or two from the Xbox camp (Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves plz).

I'm already pretty content with just Zelda and Nier:Automata, but damn - GotY is going to be a fierce competition.

I was burned out with the naval stuff by the end of Black Flag but it's been long enough that I'm up for another game with it.

Modern story has been basically 'You're a gamer, playing a videogame at home' since Black Flag.

I just want the combat to be remade from scratch into something that is actually fun. Either that or go full stealth.

Not at all. One of their most famous battles was a naval battle against the "sea peoples", at the mouth of the Nile. It's just that ships back then had no cannons, so were more like transports for soldiers. Arrows were prominent though of course.

The good news here is that the series' strength has always been melee combat, and naval combat in this time period will be all about boarding and close quarters combat, no cannons. So unless you loved the cannon aspect of Black Flag's naval combat more than the boarding aspect, this is likely to be good news.

what? how can you not love finding TREASURE CHESTS every 30 seconds? you can go "fuck yeah treasure!" so often it's amazing, it's like a drug. a drug you can keep hitting again and again and again and again and again with no negative side effects.

It would be so nice if they had romance with two main playable characters instead of sister or cousin angle again. Man imagine it's a love story they got separated somehow one to egypt other to greece in childhood and trying to find each other or get love again without recognizing themselves.

movie also tried to romance but it was so dull and short they couldnt do anything about it.

but knowing ubisoft and dull game writers working on these games it will be nothing like i presumed but some lamey ass witcher rip-off instead.

meh also @ name

Do people realize that these supposedly "two main characters" are from two seperate time periods...? Past and present. It's not rocket science lol. Past being the man. Present being the woman. It's not that hard to figure out.

That's a great premise. Question is, could Ubisoft deliver on it? They seem to be taking a different route with this game, but for the time being, I'm gonna say no.

I mean old Ubisoft i could see it with PoP games. But doubt current one will be. And may people think its too similiar too Unity while it isnt.

Not anymore. It's back in full force, 3rd person and everything etc.
Wait, in Syndicate? Or in this one? I might give Syndicate a go if it didn't half ass the modern day like Unity.

More on topic, my perfect AC would be coop, featuring naval combat and modern day. I'd buy the crap out of that.

I wouldn't be so sure; the "character" you play in the present has been a blank slate since Black Flag and thus far there's nothing to suggest this has changed. Evie was well-received, but unless Ubi took, shall we say, a leap of faith, it's too early for an AssCreed game with a female as the one and only main in the historical portion. Another duo setup, though? Very possible.

You underestimate Ubi lol. The new game is a soft reboot. Keeping everything before from the lore but starting a new chapter in the past and present. If you read the comics, they've been pushing a character called Charlotte de la Cruz hard. So hard infact that she's got her on hoodie on UbiWorkShop. She's pretty much the centre of the comics right now. She's the next desmond. At least I hope so. Either her or Galina, I'm no bothered.

Sorry double post :S

Well this one does, in a way. They're wrapping up the phoenix project that started in Black Flag and starting a brand new chapter in the present with Juno.

Ah I see. Nice to see someone who appreciates the modern day stuff, heh.

I always think that people just don't see the importance of MD game design wise in AC. I'm sure people are aware of the concept of combat fatigue, spacing out combat encounters in order to make a better experience. I truly believe that the MD sections are a good remedy for ACs open world fatigue, in that they are short linear story sections. They are a break from obsessing over collectible treasure chests and side quests.

Well, comics are a different kettle of fish and the AAA AssCreed titles are undoubtedly Ubi's most expensive projects. That makes them exponentially more risky, thus Ubi testing the waters with Syndicate's brother and sister setup to see how fans would respond to a female protagonist; so, to reiterate, unless it was feeling confident that Evie would prove be popular, this year's entry having a female protagonist exclusively isn't happening as two years simply isn't enough time. That, coupled with how the player "character" in the present has been handled beginning with Black Flag, leads me to believe that "two main characters" alludes to another, Syndicate-esque dual character configuration.

:) Therearedozensofus.gif :p

I don't think we're gonna get short story sections anymore for the present. It'll be a mix between Brotherhood's MD and ACIII's. It'll be bigger and better than before. Just you wait :p People give it alot of shit because you just want to go about the historical world assassinating random shit and hiding in hay bales etc but that's not what the series is about. Okk it is in a way but there's sooo much more to it than that. I can't believe some people wanted it out. You kinda got what you wanted after ACIII when they threw away desmond. Then the series sank to a whole new low in unity cause of cutscenes. They wanted it. They did it and this is the result of it. But we're gettting "back on track" now with the new game.

How can they compare it to Skyrim if it's not even an RPG? Exploration in an open world action game is usually a tedious and boring filler. Ubisoft's latest comments about them getting rid of story in their games don't fill me with confidence either. Theoretically, this would be a perfect moment to soft reboot AC series by introducing a new storyline, with new modern world heroes spanning several games. Lack of any info on this is worrying.

Origins is a terrible name.
More freedom is nice but I'm worried for less story.
I'm interested how they are going to make naval combat without gunpowder.

Really excited by this. I hope they announce it before E3.

Because an RPG share traits with other genres ?
It could very be the mission structure. They already did it a bit with Far Cry Primal with characters that are linked to regions. Zelda:BOTW also did it perfectly with the same regional missions, and these two games are not RPGs.

This seems like a real soft reboot. (AC:Unity already was some kind of soft reboot if you look at how many things changed)

... I'm not an idiot, I meant it in a sense of fun. Will naval combat be quite slow? I know the Egyptians had quite good military equipment back then, but I don't know about them having artillery or heavy canons.

It first dépends when the game is set, but historical "accuracy" doesn't matter in a game, it's the game design that comes first. If it's indeed in the game, it means that they found a way to get it in with some tweaks to fit the context.

"Lack of any info" for a game that hasn't been announced yet is.............Normal?

They dropped the modern world story since AC4, maybe they'll reintroduce it this year

Origins is a terrible name.

It's not "less story" but "less lineral narrative structure". So it's pretty much how you tell the story and not its content. I don't see them dropping much cutscenes anyway. Although most of an open world's story is told by the open world itself. The last Zelda once again proved it with a great consonance between what they wanted to tell about the world/the characters of Hyrule and how they told it. Ubisoft still has to learn but we've seen far worse.

I mean that seems the sensible thing to do, but if that's what they were doing why call it 'Origins'? That it's a subtitle at all will probably put a lot of people off, as traditionally, non-numbered Assassin's Creed games have been 'holding pattern' games, keeping the story where it is while they decide what to do with it (and yes, I count Unity and Syndicate as falling into this category). I think they either need to shit or get off the pot - either make Assassin's Creed 5, or start a new Assassin's Creed series.

That all sounds so interesting. I hope its true. IMO AC series is just one flop away from its death but I hope this will turn things around for them.

Sounds interesting. Loved the naval combat in IV.

I was totally expecting a mid-May reveal for this game like they did for Syndicate and WD2 but now I'm not so sure. We'll see.
