I love HR too. His take on Harrison Wells is really good. But unfortunately, he's replaceable as they'll just grab another one from a different alternate reality.

But wait isn't this HR wearing a Wells mask? Am I remembering that right? I feel like they still need to explore that before replacing him.

I think they're being intentionally vague to avoid spoiling stuff. Or they got lazy on the description. I have faith in it being the former.

Oh right. Is there something left with HR's past they still need to explore then before kicking him out?

He did something that managed to piss of an entire alternate earth. I'm betting HR somehow laid the groundwork for the invasion that led to that earth's travel ban between universes.

That'd be a great season of Flash. HR accidentally calling the Crystalline Entity to Earth 1 or something like that.

No evil speedster.

Here's the synopsis to the S3 finale. I know, it's not very exciting, so I added Arrow's underneath to get you excited about something.

#3.23 "Finish Line"

And on the far more exciting Arrow...

Is this one of those patented Zero synopses or have I been missing out on Arrow?

I lost all hope when they gave Laurel character development and then...

Did S4 get redeemed, or should I just go from this year?

This is real life. Season 5 has been amazing.

Dr. Tracy Brand feels like she was supposed to be a young replacement for Caitlin with the whole quirky grad student shtick, then they got Anne Dudek then they were like... let's give HR some action.

Totally real (just like every synopsis I post). S5 is the GOAT and throwing everything at the wall.

This thread has any rate.

I get people have a hate on fir this show now, but it's not enjoyable to post in this thread. People are going way over the top with ridiculous hyperbole about how awful the show is.

People can't talk about the slow decline of the show since it's inception? About how majorly disappointing this season is? It has to be all sunshine and happiness talking well about the show?

This is his M.O. He only posts to complain about the complainers.

Yeah pretty much. DeathyBoy has made 26 posts in this thread, and half of them are complaining about complaining. They constantly like to generalize GAF as a single entity that disappoints them. Actually contributing to conversation? No time for that.

They moved back after the 1st season

They all took a break last year let's be honest

Did they switch again or are they just spread thin?

They just hire new writers when they add new shows. Only thing that does change is the involvement of the big guys like Guggenheim, Berlanti, Johns, ... but even that is limited. Like Guggenheim doesn't have anything to do with The Flash or Supergirl but he leads both Arrow and Legends, Berlanti only sets up the big beats, ... Looking at names, you could point at Geoff Johns who in general is stretched way too thin but who should really not be leading shows as the head honcho of DC and Kreisberg who helps on Supergirl as well. And for the latter, Ali Adler should be running Supergirl. It is more a matter of writers being stuck in an idea they feel is great but not being able to execute it.

  • Andrew Kreisberg and Ali Adler run Supergirl
  • Andrew Kreisberg and the Helbing Brothers run The Flash
  • Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle run Arrow
  • Marc Guggenheim, Phil Klemmer and Chris Fedak run Legends of Tomorrow
  • Greg Berlanti oversees all of them (and more) and helps with overarching story but not day to day scripts
Very few staff writers are shared between them except Keto Shimuzu and Grainne Godfree who went from Arrow (S2) to Flash and Legends but they're still involved in all three rooms AFAIK. There's been very few showrunner departures (Flash dabbled with a showrunner for the first half of S2 that didn't stick around). Kreisberg shifted his attention away from Arrow after S2 over to Flash which is probably the biggest change (and Wendy was promoted with Arrow S4), but Kreisberg still contributes, and to Legends too.

The simple explanation on inconsistent quality: writing for television is fucking hard. If you think it's easy to consistently churn out 23 episodes a year, you a dummy. For every well written season of television there's 20 bad ones. It's hard to be consistent. It's hard to come up with perfect ideas time and time again. So the whole "have the writers moved?" thing is dumb. No, sometimes they hit the mark, other times they don't. Also there's a whole bunch of restrictions in writing for television, including limited budget and even more limited shooting days. Not to mention shooting in advance means you're months behind if you need to course correct. It's not a science and people like to throw out "dumb writers" like "lazy devs" and it's never the case. Nobody has a 100% hit rate. Absolutely criticize the story, but give a little leeway to writers. Hell, I'll rip Scott Buck a new one as a showrunner, there's a track record with nothing but trash, but even he can write a good script if he's not in charge of the whole thing. Every EP on these shows has proven themselves multiple times, just not every time.

Good posts, Joni and Zero. That's why even though I'm bailing on the rest of this season, I'm going to give Season 4 a chance. I hated Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 but absolutely adored Season 2. Some course correcting to address criticisms and focus the show in a new direction can do wonders. I don't see it happening this season, but maybe when they start fresh for S4.

They already confirmed to have no new speedsters and seeing how LOT and Arrow improved this year, i can see this happening

With how much an improvement Legends S2 and Arrow S5 are, I don't know how anyone could write these shows off completely. With Arrow especially, they've proven that they do listen to complaints and take them to heart.
