Pokémon Go |OT 3| "No Officer, I'm a Passenger"

I had a large haul of 2km eggs, so I decided to hatch them all before seeing what filled-up my bag.

7 free slots -> 5x 5km and 2x 2km.

Some people get perfect Blisseys and I get this.

My second Dragonite has Dragon Tail/Hurricane. Better than my first, which has Steel Wing/Dragon Claw.

My 91% hatched Meganium has terrible moved compared to the 66% one I caught in the wild.

My identical 95% Scizors both have good attacking moves.

The real tragedy is evolving my Tyranitar and getting Iron Tail/Fire Blast.
It's BS that they haven't offered an option to switch moves at the expense of candy yet.

It's hard to be too heart-broken considering that there really isn't much to do with your awesome mons once you have them.

Hopefully there is more extensive battling/gym/raid stuff incoming.

Hope it's individual per Pokemon. So like only 1 max Blissey, but like 3 max Gyarados. etc. Good to have added either way

Doesn't seem like it since the new parameter is MAXSAMEPOKEMONATFORT, not any reference to specific Pokemon. But I could be wrong.

Hopefully they let us increase our Pokemon storage for cheap again after this update drops since now not only do you need a more diverse gym roster, but you will want a few of each top tier defender since you never know which you might be able to use at a given gym.

One Charmander away from a Charizard.

If I want a near perfect one it'll be another 30 or so candies but eh.

That leaves Nidoqueen and Dragonite for the Gen 1 dex...

Hatched a Tyrogue > Hitmonlee over the weekend which finally closes out Kanto (y'know, as much as you can close it out without regionals/legends), very very happy!

Magby will close Johto for me as well, hopefully soon cause I'm really tired of hatching 5KM.

Apparently, there will be a max limit of the same species set for gyms to promote variety in a future update!

So instead of actually fixing the balance issues in the game, they are just banning the overpowered Pokemon from over-populating towers? That's such a lazy band-aid for poor game design.

If you want a greater variety of Pokemon on towers, how about giving us more than a dozen Pokemon that can go over 2500 CP? How about giving Blissey/Snorlax some actual kind of nerf or disadvantage? There's no reason they should have three times the HP of any other mon, and yet have no intrinsic weaknesses to offset the huge advantage they're given.

All that said, I am looking forward to fighting towers that aren't Snorlax x 4, Blissey x 3, Dragonite x 3. I have to image they'll at least allow 2 of the same species on a tower though, which means things will still be pretty rough. Snorlax and Blissey are basically the same Pokemon at this point......so limiting to anything other than 1 slot each would be too mcuh.

Newsflash: some pokemon are better than others

Newsflash: Nobody said they should all be equally good.

You can't have variety if there's only like 6-8 viable tower defenders. And if two of those defending types are massively better than all the rest, then that breaks things even further. Other pokemon need to be buffed up so they can be competitive.....or towers need to be structured in such a way that rewards more than pure CP.

I'm willing to bet gyms won't be ranked by CP but how much berries you feed it every day or something similar. Would annoy the spoofers too.

Or both.

Honestly just having the 2400-3000+ CP range be more easily accessible to more fully evolved mons would greatly increase gym variety with this current system. Though of course, more than just that needs editing for things to be much better.

I think it would be interesting if the towers just randomly generated slots that could only be filled by a particular Type. So a tower might require 3 water, 1 dragon, 2 ghost, 2 psychic, 2 Water......

A more rewarding interpreation of your idea that also brings in mechanics from mainline pokemon games is that different slots will have different weather conditions that boost/nerf attacks.
For example A slot could have sunny weather, which would result in a boost for fire attacks, weaken water attacks and increase the speed of solarbeam.

Apparently, there's also speculation on an Ingress mechanic that may apply to the Gym update—a Pokemon in a gym will "Degrade" over time; it's up to you and/or your teammates to "recharge" your pokemon via a berry. Y'all can speculate that would mean.

I really like Firemind's idea of feeding berries to stay up on the ladder though.

Just give us PvP with a Battle Rating and have that BR be a basis of how far up the ladder your pokemon will be in a gym.

All that sounded so dumb and convoluted. I hate that Niantic has a financial incentive to make sure gyms are constantly being upended. I wish they would just remove Gold Coins as a reward for Gym memberships. The real reward is the dust anyway.

If they are intent on shaking things up, why not just have gyms automatically flip after a week or something?

That's even worse.

Well I don't know what the solution should be, but making people feed consumables to their gyms sounds like garbage. I would rather have gyms flip on predictable intervals than have to drive out to them every other day and give them items.

Fuck out of here with that lol. I sure as shit ain't buying all my Gold.

By removing gold as a reward for Gym players, you remove Niantic's financial incentive to make gyms unstable. I would rather collect 5000 dust everyday from stable gyms than I would want to bust ass to try and keep up with gyms that flip all the time. I like getting gold from gyms obviously, but not if that makes it more difficult for my team to hold down their gyms.

Well it depends on how long the intervals are for both options. I'd rather gyms start decaying after a week (meaning you have to feed them to keep it strong) as opposed to a gym literally just "flipping" after a week.

At this point, I think you can assume that gyms will start flipping sooner rather than later. If it takes a week or two before they start to degrade, then nothing will ever flip. Niantic's goal is more frequent flips, so I imagine that degradation will set in pretty fast.

Gyms are constantly flipping in this town.

I've never been in more than 4 gyms at once, and never held anything longer than a day or two.

I have near 500k stardust, I'd rather have the coins.

Although I greatly benefit from Pokemon staying in gyms for long time, I'd love for pokemon to eventually degrade over time in gyms.

Dude

Perfect Charizard

Part of me doesn't mind that much as Tyranitar and Blissey are the big Meta killers right now, but at the same time if I manage to get the extra 25 or so candies I need by the time I do my next evolve spree then yeah I'll evolve my slightly better IV Charmander up to Charizard instead of my Charmeleon.

With that being said, since I'm on the coast for work and am missing my usual PoGo walks with friends, I decided to check and see what is on the Silph Road Atlas for the area for the Charmander, Nidoran-F, and Dratini I need to finish the Gen I Dex.

Within a 45 minute drive there's a Charmander nest, a Nidoran-F nest, and apparently a DRAGONITE spawn nest as of the last migration.

The Dragonite one sounds suspect as hell but I spend two hours walking with friends on Thursday so what's a half hour drive to go check it out?

If I'm lucky I'll be able to finish the Dex today, sans legendaries and regional exclusives.

Got mad lucky this morning and caught a high level, high IV Charmander

There are people who actually care more about the stardust than the coins from gyms? Wut.

The 5000 dust you get on 10 gyms is the equivalent of catching 50 Pokemon, every single day. You're saving a pretty massive amount of time and effort.

The 100 gold coins you from gyms are never really enough to feed a steady habit of incubator use.....it's just a meager bonus (especially once you consider that like 80% of eggs hatched are absolute gargage duds). And you can always just buy some Gold if you need it. Stardust doesn't come from anywhere but gameplay, so being given that huge shortcut is arguably way more important.

Gold only seems valuable if you're one of those people that has a massive hangup about giving money to a F2P app. I've only bought Gold a few times for special events, and while the Gold I get from gyms is nice it's not really enough to do much of anything.

I definitely agree that they need to give out more coins in general, but to think that a once-a-day collection of a few thousand dust is more reliable than the almost limitless supply you can get from just catching Pokemon doesn't make much sense to me. Most people aren't going to realistically have 10 gyms every day, and if you do, you probably play the game enough that stardust isn't really a problem for you.

I have 11 gyms and have had them for quite some time. Not a lot of maintenance is necessary around here -- most teams have their territories and keep to them. Everyone has figured out the Prisoner's Dilemma.

The dust I get from gyms is important precisely because I don't want to spend my time catching gutter trash Pokémon just because I need dust. While I wouldn't say I have a problem with dust, I certainly need more than I have most of the time. I'd love to level all my best attackers everything to max, but t gets real expensive.

Conversely put, if the average player can't hold down more than a handful of gyms reliably, what good is the Gold they earn? Just for getting an incubator every 4 days?

Uhhh, yeah? Incubators are a hot commodity, and the best source of high IV Pokemon.

Anyway, just woke up and retook my turf before cashing in. Have 9 gyms currently.
Funnily, every gym was already back to Valor and I just had to power up a few.

Incubators produce Pokemon with above-average IVs, but by and large they also turn out Pokemon that aren't really viable as tower defenders or attackers. Nobody really cares about hatching a Mantine with great IVs. Someone generating 50 Gold per day from gyms will get an extra 6-7 hatches per week depending how mow much they are willing to walk, but it doesn't really matter that much since most hatches are garbage.

I totally like and enjoy incubators, but to see any big advantage from them means you have to buy tons of them simultaneously. You need to be able to walk 2-5K and have the distance count towards hatching at least a half-dozen eggs. Being drip fed 50 Gold per day doesn't really allow you to do that.

I mean, you must walk a lot if 'an extra 6-7 hatches a week' is minor to you. I'd hatch 1-2 a week from my infinite incubator so the extras I get from gym coins are amazing to me.
And yeah, due to not playing much I generally can have a few incubators going at once.

(To be fair right now I'm only using my infinite as I'm working on hitting 1000 storage for items and Pokemon).

Like, the stardust from gyms in great and all, but you get stardust from other things, the coins you get from gyms are the only coins you get (without spending $$$).
