Media Create Sales: Week 18, 2017 (May 01 - May 07)

That's one gigantic drop. I didn't think the first game was that bad.

Should keep in mind that Azure Gunvolt 2 got a retail release (as part of the dual-pack with AGV1), which sold 8k on launch week in Japan alone (no data for the west, unfortunately). Since they talk about digital sales, I assume those are not counted.

I think NISA releasing it in May was much smarter than NIS releasing it at launch.
Launch hype clearly couldn't make up for competing with Breath of the Wild, Dragon Quest Heroes, I Am Setsuna, and the various multiplayer games.
There is no big single player game to compete with now, and won't be for some bit.

Blaster Master Zero sales were just a part of an Inti Creates presentation at ToyBox, 4Gamer just posted more slides and details. If anyone's willing to translate the text, it could be interesting. At least the slides have english included

This is a good comparison. They are both critically acclaimed, revolutionary, marquee games for their respective systems. I think if Ocarina of Time could hit 1m on the N64 in Japan, then it's possible for Breath of the Wild to do so on a system with much more appeal in that region (plus the sales of the Wii U version). Additionally, the DLC packs should keep word of mouth going for the game and prevent people from selling their copies.

Mario Odyssey is the next test after Breath of the Wild. Nintendo tries to give the true successor of Super Mario 64 that Sunshine failed to be.

Galaxy 1 and 2 were revolutionary entries but 3D World looked like a rehashed 3D Land.

If it wouldn't for Switch, next week would be a very low (and sad) week for MC thread aficionados.

Well post golden week numbers have always been terrible iirc. It's getting worse though, we're not far from seeing 3 digit games in the top 30.

If we're being honest, the last couple of years have been a bummer. The Switch makes these threads exciting again instead of everyone arguing with each other about which game is a bigger flop.

Forgot to post it the other day...

Leg-o-Meter - April 2017 Edition

Apologies for missing what you mean by this but what is the "Rank (total)"? Is it number of days charted? Weeks it charted? The average? I am trying to make sense of what I am looking at there.

Edit: Additionally, FFXV was in the top 20 for more than eight weeks... Thirteen weeks by my count, actually.

Edit 2: The more I look at it the less sense I can make of it. Someone please explain.

rank = position in weekly chart
edit: he's using media create and that charttable is only counting 2017 not 2016, 2015 or earlier

releasing it at launch in the west would have been fine to me, I mean it would easily be the second game that people buy for the switch instead of breath of the wilf

I agree. It was a smart move to help pad out the release schedule and fill a void.

Would be interesting to see how DQH I&II goes in the West if it was ever to release.

yeah I bet its at 15K or so right now and will sell out its initial shipment. Which would be about half of the known PS4 LTD I believe.

15k as sold-through. This is hiska-kun's post based on Famitsu's numbers and sell-through %

So, according to Famitsu, these are the shipment range:

Zelda Breat of the Wild - from 241k to 321k
1-2-Switch - from 103k to 137k
Bomberman R - from 50k to 66k
Dragon Quest Heroes 1-2 - from 43k to 64k
PuoPuyo - from 32k to 64k
Disgaea 5 - from 12k to 25k
Setsuna - from 11k to 23k

Nobunaga is the only game that hasn't charted

Anyway, you're wrong on the original's sales.

Media Create, as of Week 52, 2015

[PS4] Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance # <SLG> (Nippon Ichi Software) {2015.03.26} (¥7.200) - 42.652 / NEW (22.725 <48,91%>)

IIRC, more recent numbers showed it at around 60,000 units sold, correct me if I'm wrong.

Still, how long did it take for the original to see price drops? That could be another angle to compare the two games, and (seemingly) D5C has yet to see its price dropped by retailers.

PS VR didn't even sell 100k in 2016 in Japan. Sony really undershipped the thing.

It was obvious Sony was giving very limited shipments in Japan, thus the lines every time restocks were happening.

51.644 at first week. less than 50k for next 11 weeks that included holidays.

Xbox finally dominates the japanese market!

I don't think it's even close to the 10m of Pokémon R/B/G/Y.

Haha sure. But we know minecraft is also not close to done selling.
Even tho, Japan has one of the lowest birthrate.

Including
ps3 digital and physical
Ps4 digital
Xb360 digital and physical
Xbox one - lol
Vita digital and physical
Wii u digital and physical
Switch digital and physical
Pc digital

I wonder if the game is already above 10 million including IOS and Android

120m ww
8.5% of that for japan seems kinda right?!

Don't have exactly numbers here, but it should be around two and a half millions counting all versions and digital. So, no.
All dedicate gaming devices versions?

Well, I was referring about the original one, ala Famicom Mini. Sony really needs to release that monster.

Only talking about traditional gaming systems here.

Yeah that is no contest (yet).
Is it the best selling western game on traditional gaming systems?

GTAV would have to be the only game that comes close. Depends how much of minecraft total has been on phones, not sure of the breakdown. With minecraft continuing to find success on new platforms I'm not sure it will ever be topped as the best selling game of all time.

Haha sure. But we know minecraft is also not close to done selling.

While you're correct that it's not done selling, I highly doubt that the sales of the Switch version and legs of the current versions will amount to the additional 7.5m that it needs to surpass Pokemon. I don't think any game will ever sell that much in Japan again (on traditional gaming systems).

My local Yodobashi Camera got some Switch stock in today. Looked like they had 100+ or so from behind the counter. Came back and they were sold out within the hour.

Yodobashi also put up some Switch stock without notice tonight online. Grey sold out in 20 mins and Neon sold out in an hour.

Switch apparently remains at high demand but it's not unexpected after the low shipments of Golden Week. Opening of preorders for Splatoon 2 must not be very far so it looks it won't face problems in slow period of May and June, that was in question.

If Scorpio launches with Minecraft 2, how many millions of consoles will be sold at its launch week?
Looking at PS4 Pro sales compared to the Slim, i'm half expecting Scorpio to not be released in Japan at all.

I still can't believe the Gray model is more popular than the Neon one.

Nice that the demand remains strong.
I got the grey model at launch but i'm kind of regretting it. They both look great though and the inverted neon colors sold standalone maybe look even better than the standard ones so i'm just gonna get those with Snipperclips packed in.
