Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

I'm so bad at pulling this off.

Context: In the Ch. 14 Jeanne fight, apparently when you fail the QTE, you still have a window to parry that attack to avoid getting hit.

I've discovered that in this thread from watching a video, never thought of it on my own in my countles playthroughs before. I've tried it recently and it actually works, but the timing is not easy (at least to me) as it's such an unfamiliar attack to parry/block.

I tried to think of a redeeming quality about route 666 and I was about to say triple gracious/glorious but then I remembered there's fucking annoying cars hitting you all the time if you stay on the ground. Kamiya pls. At least getting hit by cars doesn't seem to affect your pure plat rating in motorbike sections.

There's two areas on this level at each extreme edge where no cars travel.
A hard shoulder.

Figured that out last night after being absolutely twatted on hard mode.

It *could* also be a stage designed to teach you to stay in the air as long as possible.

Yeah that's how I ended up doing it, using witch time and the whip to pull them to the air for some juggling, but it can be difficult to keep your combo going against G&G if you stay in the air too long.

Actually, I've been practicing, and I find Grace and Glory MUCH easier to deal with than the.... uh, two dog enemies, because I like to do a lot of aerial combos. G&G seem to telegraph their attacks better to me. For some reason I have no issue with G&G, but the dog like enemies like to do their Free Willy impression and soar into the air and bite my ass like it's nothing. (obviously the answer is to stay out of the air but FUCK IT IMA BIRD)

For sure, G&G are way more fun to fight than Fairness and Fearless. You just have more options to fight them. One new option I discovered recently is the rotating crow quills do good damage and they don't block them

Yep, just been using that.

Also useful to slow down incoming attacks to help you activate witch time.

Its amazing how much muscle memory your body can retain.

I haven't played Bayonetta before the PC release in probably about 5 years. Now that I'm playing it again I easily became better than I was before in a matter of hours. I can easily do air combos with afterburner kick, parry enemies with the Moon accessory, and can use the dodge offset relatively often - stuff I had trouble doing before.

Its blowing my mind!

Just finished installing this and...the game won't let me pick a higher resolution to downscale. I've set DSR factors to 2.0 in the Nvidia control panel. Shouldn't it work?

Turned on HDR but it doesn't seem to work. My TV doesn't recognize it's in HDR mode at all. How do you do HDR on PC anyway? 1060 strix with Vizio P series. Use HDR on my pro but not working on PC..

Finally got this running in 2K on my 4K TV. I was having trouble setting that as a custom resolution on my computer without it forcing 30 hz. The trick was to put the computer resolution in 1080p first and then make a custom resolution after and then it stayed at 60 hz which has been awesome. Game runs smooth at 2K on my gaming laptop which has a 980M in it.

Is it possible to DSR 4k to 1080p in this game?

It works but it makes the cutscenes acting funny with additional display (1080p one?) on the top left corner.

That's an issue with not using an exact 16:9 aspect ratio. It looks like they are working on a fix if this is anything to go by ("Aspect Ratio Test Branch"). In the mean time just use a different DSR.

HDR Rendering ≠ HDR Output.
It's a common option in many older PC games, going back to Half-Life 2: Lost Coast and the original Far Cry.

Jumped in on this with the Vanquish deal and am now doing something I rarely ever do: replaying a game. It's running swimmingly on my 4690k/GTX 970 rig at 2880x1620 downsampled to 1080p. Forcing Vsync through Nvidia rather than game itself gives me perfectly smooth frame pacing without stutter. Pretty great!

Oh, so I can enable this even on a non-HDR TV? What's the benefit?

Improved lighting.

In short:
bright things are really bright,
dark things are really dark
and details are visable in both.

Miliage might vary depending on how it's implemented in specific games. To get a good idea of it try out Half Life 2: Lost Coast.

I am really impressed by how sharply some of the textures in this game are holding up.

Lots of in-engine cutscenes too! Something that's way more noticeable now after Platinum went fullblown pre-rendered and ultra compressed with all their other games.

Hmm.. I bought this not even thinking about how it would run because it is a years old 360 game. Turns out it runs like crap on my laptop.

How is this even possible? I must do slmething wrong. Trying to play at 1080p and even low settings run awful. This PC handled Dark Souls 3 better, wtf?

Asus ROG gl552vw laptop. Can anyone help?

Did you make sure it was using the laptop GPU and not the intergrated?

The load sequences, where you are supposed to practice combos, are like 0,5 seconds long on the pc version haha

You don't get to practise on PC! Straight into the action or nothing.

As a weird person with a 21:9 monitor, I was happy to see the modding community have already put together a semi decent mod to handle ultrawides.

Yeah, it seems that the game won't detect most of the DSR resolution other than the weird 2715x1527 one.

The cutscenes are bugged when using that particular resolution. I'm sticking with 1080p in the end.

Anyway, the game is surprisingly looking good for what it's worth (with Mayonetta Reshade).

Hmm.. no. Never had to do that with any other game.. How would I check this?

Well that seems odd considering I've had to do it a few times with a similar laptop.

Either way you'll want to go to Nvidia Control Panel and get to this:

Alternative is going to the install directory like so and going through here:

I have one question, so I bought Bayonetta on launch and now I have that Digital Extras folder with all those goodies, but what happens if I would delete Bayonetta (including that folder)?
Would the next time when I decide to download Bayonetta again I also have access to Extras?

Or do I have to keep it for all eternity on my HDD and upload it to all possible servers so that it would not get lost?

That last one was a joke. :D

Thanks.

Okay, what the fuck.

This is what I get when I try, and also the same message when I try to launch nvidia control panel.

Basically in English: "Nvidia screen settings not available. You are currently not using a display connected to an NVIDIA GPU unit."

Never had this problem before...

EDIT: Ran "dxdiag" and it says the GPU is working??

Sometimes it gets corrupted for various reasons. Just use DDU to uninstall and then reinstall the driver.

Anyone ;_;

No issues here, whatsoever really. Game runs @60fps (720p/Medium/AA off) on my work laptop even (which is almost akin to a powerful Netbook with only Intel Integrated capability).

Check if there's any difference playing around with your firewall/antivirus (particularly HIPS on some setups).

What OS are you running and are there any background processes that are taking priority? Your rig shouldn't really matter here, it's almost certainly a software conflict issue.
