Destiny 2 Won't Use Dedicated Servers On PC (or presumably consoles either)

All of them, except Overwatch work like shit in my region (South America), do you know why? Because how expensive it is to deploy servers. What should people in that situation do? not play the game.
That leads to a lost sale, Activision/dev not happy.

Why would i invest in this expensive server which will limit my reach of potential sales?, easy, you don't.

Of course they get to use it, it's one of the reasons they make so much money, they're great at managing costs, specially for hosting services, i even recall an article that said that it was one of the main reasons Bungie signed their contract with them.

And no, a shit dedicated server will work just as bad.

Plenty of developers have utilized hybrid systems for regions like yours where they don't like the ROI ratios of a bunch of dedicated servers.

Why? Even much less successful games like Halo 5 showed that you can not only have dedicated servers for multiplayer, but even the campaign coop. If Bungie had figured out how to do coop back when they were working on Halo maybe ODST firefight would still be a thing.

Man there's some hyperbole going in this thread. PVP in Destiny 1 was fine. You had lag but it wasn't ever present. It happens though. It'd be nice to have dedicated servers but it's not gonna kill crucible.

I hear no dedicated servers and I look to the PC version of the division and I just sigh.

I can probably put this game off for a while now.

So you're mad at no dedicated servers are in South America for Overwatch because Activision Blizzard is cheap, yet you defend them being cheap for Destiny?

Yes, it costs more to have a good server. I don't care. Activision will make bank on Destiny regardless.

Instead of wanting to make some of the money they could get, they want all of it, because their a soulless, greedy corporations who's only motivation is profit and the wishes of their shareholders.

Activision Blizzard isn't some indie dev strapped for cash, they're one of the biggest publishers in the world with an enormous profit margin.

In fact, 2016 was their best year in their history.

2016 was a great year for Activision Blizzard — in fact, the publisher tallied revenue of $6.61 billion for the full year, a record in the company’s history.

The figure came from Activision Blizzard’s full-year earnings report today. It’s up 42 percent over 2015’s total of $4.66 billion. Digital revenue provided a major boost to the company’s bottom line: It came in at $4.87 billion — also a record — which was almost double the figure from 2015, and 74 percent of Activision Blizzard’s total revenue.

Are dedicated servers really this magical lag-free miraculous savior of competitive gaming that people act like they are?

I played Gears 3 a lot back at launch when it ran on dedicated servers and it felt pretty normal to me? Just like playing an average peer-to-peer match.

I remember Gears 3 being a significant improvement. In Gears 1 and 2 you would have bullets/shotgun pellets coming out of the gun a second after you saw the actual firing animation unless you were the host which obviously gave the host a huge advantage since they didn't have any kind of delay

Dedicated servers won't fix all connection issues, but it does solve a lot of problems and keeps things fair which is important for competitive game modes.

Also, The Division does some similar seamless shared world stuff in a big open map on dedicated servers, so I don't see why Activision can't do it

Oh wow not even on consoles? Welp, sorry but between this and every footage i saw from yesterday just screaming Destiny 1.5 i lost interest in it.

It still requires good netcode but anyone who played Gears 1 or 2 knows that Gears 3 was a MONUMENTAL step forward in playability. Coop still sucked and was laggy, but I feel like Halo 5 has seemingly solved that issue and shown how even servers can be started up for those modes.
