non-videogame music that would fit perfectly for a videogame

So, I was just listening to this track:

And I was thinking how well it would fit as a jRPG boss battle theme for example. The build up, the sudden shift in arrangement, the fast driving drumbeat, the slight break in the middle part, it's great!

Any other songs you can think of that would fit great for a videogame?

back when I used to make shitty youtube music videos I thought about stuff like this way too much

now a days I usually just enjoy music separately and don't think too hard about where to fit it

Sometimes you can't help it though. You start building scripts in your head. Or visuals. Screenwriting maybe. I dunno. Good music always goes with good pictures.

I usually just connect themes over albums, or in some cases, over discographies.

Trying to make a music video over music I love does the artist a slight disservice I feel.

Been listening to Boards of Canada a lot lately. So much of their music is so evocative that I wish someone would take it and, somehow, base an entire game around it. Same with Vangelis and Susumu Yokota. There's something about intensely atmospheric electronic music that makes me want to explore it in a physical way.

yeah. I do agree it imposes on the original artists' intent.

Still though, it can be fun sometimes taking a song and imagining a narrative. I'm not talking youtube AMVs or that shit but just building a little story based off the lyrics.

I really think symphonic death metal would work during certain parts of the Kingdom Hearts games. Seriously.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
TRON Legacy OST.

Although that's cheating a little.

Vangelis - Blade Runner seems like it would fit pretty much perfect in Deus Ex Human Revolution. Not really surprising, but still.

Great example. Reminds me mostly of FF8 and BG&E.

If EA ever decides to make another Mass Effect they should ask the dude that did the Westworld soundtrack to do the music because just listen to this shit.

Yeeess, very good example. I was thinking the same thing while watching the show.

Wasn't ELP a big inspiration for Uematsu anyway?

Many tracks from Buckethead would be a great fit I think. He has actually done some video game music, for Twisted Metal as an example.

His discography is absolutely insane and I'm not going to look for the absolute best fits, but here are some examples

Buckethead - For Mom For a lovely stroll in your peaceful hometown in some RPG maybe.

Buckethead - Nun Chuka Kata For battle!

Or maybe something from his ambient catalog Death Cube K - Maps of imposible worlds

Eventually, there's nothing in music this guy couldn't do.

Never heard of this, I dig it! Reminded me of Ratatat, their music would also fit in games actually. Ratatat - Loud Pipes

I don't know why my brain has done this, but the chorus to Kanye's Lost in the world has stuck out to me as the MC theme in Persona 5. It fits, but it's a weird correlation for me to make.

I would also dig the shit outta it as a boss theme.

I've always thought that Emerson, Lake and Palmer would make great Final Fantasy battle music.

Wouldn't surprise me if they're a direct source of inspiration for Uematsu, the man loves his 70s prog :p. This track in particular feels very Dancing Mad, hearing some Birth of a God in there too.

Stevie Wonder - Contusion.
Would fit right in with Mario Kart 8's soundtrack.

Haha, this reminds me of this lovely Stevie Wonder/Skullgirls mashup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Bubl0BEF_g so I guess Stevie Wonder music works well in a fighting game too

I always thought Steve Hackett's acoustic stuff would fit well within a traditional Final Fantasy game like IX.
