This is the new MS Surface Pro

Ooh man Microsoft just copy paste the Dell xps 15 for a surface laptop pro... Would pay good money for a quad core 7700HQ powered laptop in the surface brand.

I was thinking about the Miix 720 as well, but complaints going around that have been echoed in a notebookcheck review about the fan jumping to the highest levels at 30% CPU load, so it's basically loud and on all the time.

Dead to me. All hail fanless.

Wouldn't something like the Lenovo Miix 720 be a much better choice than warmed over Surface Pro 2017?

------------------------------Miix 720---------------------------Surface Pro 2017
SoC-------------------Kaby Lake dual core-------------Kaby Lake dual core
RAM-------------------DDR 4------------------------------DDR 4
Display---------------12" 2880x1920-------------------12.3" 2736x1824
GPU-------------------Intel on package-----------------Intel on package
Storage---------------NVMe SSD, uSD----------------NVMe SSD, uSD
Digitizer---------------Wacom AES---------------------N-Trig/MPP
Ports-------------------USB-A 2.0, USB-A 3.0--------USB 3.0, Mini Display port
--------------------------USB-C (3.1)----------------------Proprietary dock connector

You can get a 7200U/8GB/256GB Miix 720 for $1030 and it comes with backlit Keyboard Cover:

What am I looking at here? Is the Miix better? Or does this mean it's just comparable for a cheaper price?

Surprised at all the people saying they have d surfaces that feel long in the tooth. Maybe if you have only 4gb ram and an i3 or m.

Irrc didn't even first gen surface pro have an 8gb option?

An i7 one of those honestly wouldn't even be that far behind an sp4 even with an i7.

The HP elite x2 looks promising though

Hey, that's not bad. Not bad at all. Pen is still Wacom I assume. It's a bit more expensive than 720 but it has higher max RAM, more SSD options and bigger battery than 720.

Instead of buying $1500 device every 5 years, why don't you buy a $1000 device every 3 years? Surface Pro 4 has been copied very well by ODMs for a while now. There are many worthy alternatives that are much cheaper. Some also have USB-C ports.

I dunno I guess that's just how I am. I still have my TV from 2007-2009 and I refuse to change it cause it's working perfectly. Even with all the new technologies.

I'm just nitpicking the devices before I purchase anything since I'll have it for a long time.

I don't throw away my old (older than 4~5 years) still working tablets. I give them away to poor artists in my circle. Sometimes kids of my friends who are interested in art. I gave away my Surface 3 to a friend's kid after 4 months of trying to get fair price for it on various sites. I got sick of all the low balling so I decided to gift it to someone worthy.

Few more hours. Guess we will see if they have a surface book 2 or not.

I think the book 2 is almost confirmed a no show. But for some reason I'm hyped about the surface pro updates. I feel like they are gonna try do something more than a simple refresh.

I've got the Pro 3. I'm ready to update

It's not being streamed so I'm bracing for an underwhelming show.

But Imo if it's just a spec refresh... Why have an event?

I'm kind of surprised they don't have a single quad-core Surface offering (the Surface Studio notwithstanding).

Not much info yet, but they've added something I was not expecting - LTE! Great :)

Not a great fan of more rounded design, I actually preferred the hard, industrial edges of the SP4.

Anyone want to guess whether the chip shown is somehow different than 'just' a Kaby Lake upgrade? Is the vanishing fan a sign of fan-less design?

Apparently it's a USB C adapter that changes the charging port into a USB C port.

Edit: STOP WITH THE 4GB OF RAM MICROSOFT

Panos:. "You want USB-C you fucks! Here's a fucking Dongle!". Drops mic and walks off stage to cheers.

Verge: Microsoft could have switched the mini DisplayPort on the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop to USB-C, but Panay says that’s simply “taking away another port that matters" and could have generated similar complaints.

Oh come on. People already have to buy a dongle for mini DP right now to do anything with it.

Yeah, what an idiotic statement. If it were an HDMI port - sure I could see the rationale. Mini DP is obsolete with USB C. Even MacBooks haven't used Mini DP as the sole display port for years.

Also, still selling "premium" computers with 4GB of RAM is an embarrassment.

Strange that they're full 15 watt i5s, not the Y series aka Intel rebranding Core M, but it's fanless...

Unless the passive cooling is amazing, sounds like it will act pretty Core M-ey anyways, despite being 15W on paper.

My wife is looking for a laptop and loves how the Book looks, but right now, I can't even tell what she should get between this, a Book or a Laptop (with an upgrade to win10).

Used my Surface Pro 2 with the i5-4200U and 8GB of RAM for school and random stuff for now.

I'll get a new one when that one dies. It runs whatever program I need, except games.

Even AutoCAD 2018 should run fine due to their emphasis of improving integrated graphics performance with that version.

$1,300 for base model 8GB and i5
$100 pen
$130 black keyboard

$1,650 after tax for base model surface pro? Jesus Microsoft, starting to look like Apple taxes. Might have to look into the Galaxy book, lenovo or HP variants.

RIP, SPs used to bring the pen.

I mean, I pretty much never use my Surface pen, so it makes some sense to exclude it to reduce the initial price. But not including the keyboard in the box is still ridiculous. Far, far more people use that than the pen. Oh well, Microsoft's gonna Microsoft.

I feel like they're keeping in the high pricing territory to not poke their partners *too* much. It's like, you can have all the sub 1K junk which is 95% of your sales, but we'll play in the 1K+ range and lead by example.

The base M3 models are jokes, for both this and the Laptop.

That was disappointing, I was hoping for a new surface book announcement, looks like we wont be seeing the SB2 for quite a while. Back to the waiting game it is.

At least the Surface Pro looks alright, although not adding USB-C makes very little sense, I wonder what sort of sacrifices you have to make using it through the dongle.

Oh, i5 model is now passively cooled? Would wait for reviews, would be my preferred model if it works fine.
