U.S. President Donald Trump told his Philippine counterpart that Washington has sent two nuclear submarines to waters off the Korean peninsula, the New York Times said, comments likely to raise questions about his handling of sensitive information.

Trump has said "a major, major conflict" with North Korea is possible because of its nuclear and missile programs and that all options are on the table but that he wants to resolve the crisis diplomatically.

Trump told Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte Washington had "a lot of firepower over there", according to the New York Times, which quoted a transcript of an April 29 call between the two.

"We have two submarines — the best in the world. We have two nuclear submarines, not that we want to use them at all," the newspaper quoted Trump as telling Duterte, based on the transcript.

I feel like it's kinda inbetween.

A smart president might say something like this on purpose to fuck with NK intelligence and probably lie about the actual number of subs there. If it were accidental then it would be a dumb thing to do but not the worst, and that smart president would probably know that immediately and privately apologize to the military while immediately changing how many subs are actually near NK. Nuclear subs are something as president you basically never talk about with anyone that's not one of the core NATO powers.

Trump is not a smart president, so we probably do have two there and now NK is going to be looking for just two, and he probably has no clue it was a stupid thing to say or why it was a stupid thing to say. Meanwhile the military will probably start telling him even fewer things because if he can't keep his mouth shut about nuclear sub movements then what can he keep quiet about.
