[RUMOR] Marvel vs Capcom Infinite roster leaked

Dang if the rumor ia true, it breaks my heart that no Gene or Arisen made the cut.

Also, no Leon yet, why?
Someone at Capcom REALLY loves Chris, even though I've always thought he was the least interesting protagonist in the entire series.

Seriously, I'd take Leon, Claire, Jill, Rebecca, Billy, Sheva, Jake, or Sherry over him any day.

He's had the most games and at this point is the main face of the series, even if he's not the most popular (Leon)

They could make a small roster size work, just not with that character selection. There should be at least 8 new characters on each side, but even then, they could have made the roster much more exciting with the a more diverse list of veterans (PW, Vergil, Amaterasu Haggar, Wesker etc).

Also 2 females only on their side, being Chun and Morrigan is just awful. AWFUL.

I'm certainly not excusing the lack of female characters!

If we say that Ryu, Chun-Li and Morrigan are a lock for veterans (which to be fair they basically are), if they're doing a 50/50 split, that only leaves 4 veterans, with 7 newcomers. People have enough of a problem with the fact that they've not brought their favourites back with this roster; how would this be better. DMC would be a lock, so that's Dante, Ghosts n' Goblins would be a lock, so that's Arthur. Now, RE is obviously a lock, but let's say we have Leon or Ada as a newcomer instead, and obviously X as the Mega Man rep, we're left with 2 slots to fill from a huge selection. Strider would have to be in, because everyone loves him.

So in that case, for veterans we'd have:
Ryu
Chun-Li
Morrigan
Dante
Arthur
Strider
Last veteran.

Unless the newcomers were absolutely fantastic additions, I don't really see how that's any better or worse than this leak.

For the newcomers, if we take what we have here, and add Ada for a RE rep, so:
X
Jedah
Monster Hunter
Ada

Again, we're left with 3 newcomers to choose from, but the roster is still a bit boring, due to how small it is.

That's sort of my point. Even in the main series, it started with him and Jill as equals, and then Jill even got her own game, and Chris was sort of the back-up character for Code Veronica, and then RE5 hit and he just won't leave, popping up in RE6 and RE7.

I'm mostly just a jaded Jill fan that was upset Chris got all the glory for killing Wesker when Jill was there at the start and Wesker tortured and abused her for years on end, brainwashed her into his killing machine, and put her through hell, all for her to sit back and let Chris punch that boulder and fire rockets at him as she cheered him on.

I just don't understand Chris's appeal, and I've been with the series since the start. He's been incredibly bland and stagnant and has the charisma of a piece of a bread compared to pretty much everyone else around him.

Damn the marvel side isn't looking too bad minus the obvious missing ones. Capcom side is kind of disappointing... but I'm also kinda salty that Zero isn't in there.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
That's alright Capcom I waited 3 versions for the rooster to catch up before I bought Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 and I can certainly wait 1-2 years before I buy Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite

it's funny, if Gene was in I'd have probably been happy with this roster...I've never been big on the MVC2 mainstays anyways, and I like cosmic Marvel a lot more than X-Men.

Monster Hunter and Nova do have me covered in terms of personal favorites, at least. Shame no Taskmaster/Dormammu as they were by far my best characters in 3.

Let's make up more numbers.

Only 1/3 of the audience will enter tournaments.

You can always just look at achievement completion threads and see the vast, vast minor ever even go online.

If anything, I think he's underselling it. I'd say 95% being tournament-prone players is incredibly generous.

The tournament scene is important, and it's popular, but most don't care about the tournament viability of characters, and many who watch the streams don't even own the game.

Competitive players and I have had this discussion for nigh-on 20 years, ever since some guy in the Arcades told a group of us we were "wrong" to be playing Street Fighter up the arcade ladder instead of against each other.

Yeah my casual friends are basically going "why wasn't this just a marvel game"
I'm curious how valuable the "Capcom" half of this series is to the casual gamer these days. I care obviously, but I'm doubtful as to how much Capcom has gotten the less involved to care given their releases this console generation and the tail end of the last one.

Yeah, I'd argue the capcom side is really only appealing to the hardcore FGC and Capcom fans. So with that aspect the list should've been aimed more at staples (Ryu, Chris, X, etc) while diversifying it up. Which is why some of the picks are odd, since they're lacking in that.

Maybe it's the cynic in me, but this roster totally reeks of putting in characters that they know people wouldn't buy as DLC in the main roster, and saving all the fan favorites for content they can make money off of later. At least on the Capcom side for sure.

I'll probably give this a hard pass if this is the launch roster and see how it develops. Got burned by jumping in early on SFV and don't want to repeat that mistake.

To be honest

Umvc3 had 50 characters but I'd say only half of it was tournament viable.

What makes you sure it'll be different this time, though?

These things don't happen by design, no one at Capcom thought "what if we only make half of the characters viable?", the community finds tech and some characters can't keep up, that's just how it goes.

And characters that are considered trash can become OP later on when people find the right bullshit, like Morrigan, that no one considered a good character before Morridoom was a thing.

I thought Black Panther was a shoo in and have been planning on maining him with Spider-man since the game was announced lol. Shouldn't have assumed.

If Gamora is lame I guess I can pick up Captain America again.

On the Marvel side, I think they are banking heavily on people recognizing the characters from the movies and keeping the esoteric characters to DLC.

Capcom has an amazing collection of IPs. They have the potential to be the best video game publisher market. But no, they rather keep fucking up. Should've learned long ago but this is the last time I have any faith in them if this ends up being true.

Right. Marvel needs its own Injustice. Meaty story mode and single player content created by people who actually know and enjoy the source material. There's no reason why, after the success Marvel has had, we're getting a console fighter where Black Widow, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, or Loki are omitted, but Arthur, Firebrand, and SPENCER are present and accounted for.

Fuck the Capcom "brand". I want a real Marvel fighter. Someone release us from this "vs. Capcom" mediocrity.
