IDK I was more zoning in on the "within the context of the game" part. Hoping to find some light.. somewhere. I mean that old ragtimey song 60 minute man is about cumming for 15 minutes after 15 minutes of smoochin. I don't really think sex should be seen as transgressive.

The latter part very much felt like he was saying "HAHA you are going to flip out when you see how we're being transgressive in our game".

I mostly came away from the Medium article thinking that these were all interesting issues that I would like to see handled in fiction. But that they are probably being handled by the wrong people.

Wow at some of the reactions I'm reading (especially in the PC conference live thread)... "oh this scumbag is trying to apologize lolol" etc.

What are you, 12 ? I guess some of you are pretty much perfect as you surely never made any mistakes or saying things at a point in your life that you simply regret and you feed you need to apologize for. Smh. This reminds me why I always stayed clear of all these ___gates and dramas on the web, it's so polarizing and you only see blurts of extreme opinions and reactions coming out.

This game is looks so, so absolutely fucking gorgeous looking I'd be mad to skip it. Tim had the balls to apologize, point blank, live on scene and that's way more than a lot of you jokers will ever do. Fine by me. When someone apologizes, you acknowledge and accept or you don't, but you just move on either way and you step beating the dead horse. It's lame and always lower than whatever the person apologized for.

(Sorry for the small rant, I never do that but it pained me.)

Nah, I have never had a rant about hating woman so much I make a game about it

God this game looks fucking great. Don't even care if it ends up being bad, if it has that kind of visual quality all the way through, that's enough for me.

There are shitty records for 2017. He just stopped using the word "feminism".

Also I'm pretty sure I'm ok since I did not engage in a misogynistic hate group in 2014

If my son says he's sorry for painting on the walls a week ago, then I find out he painted on the walls yesterday and he didn't tell me, that apology rings kinda hollow, don't it?

I agree, I'm not debating the gravity of one's words of actions (and I'm certainly not trying to say everything is relative and equal because it's just not). I'm just saying, maybe going extreme and vindicative on his ass isn't the best thing to do either... I don't know, seems to me that going all "yeaaaah good try ! fuck you still" really leads nowhere. You know hatred breeds even more hatred, and as cliché as it is it's still very true.

Game looked interesting, but i'm not buying it learning about that guy. Even if his apology wouldn't have been as half arsed as it was.

If pretty much perfect means I never was part of a sexist hate campaign or made transphobic tweets two months ago, then yeah, I'm pretty much perfect

Yeah, him pointing to the medium article as a way of explaining seems like a pretty clear misdirection. He just basically outlines what "post-cyberpunk" is. Has no relation to the shit he's been tweeting.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Apologies like this are always hilarious to me, like when that Delta CEO had to apologise for that guy being dragged off a plane.

"I'm terribly sorry that this story was caught on video and hit our share price"

I don't hate this guy.

I think his apology was a giant nothing of an apology, and it was. As I said, my son does this all the time. He gets a pass because he's a child, this is a grown ass man.

Yeah I was talking more about those "this scumbag of a human being" type reactions. That's it, that's all I'm saying. The fact that internet always brings those very extreme, black and white reactions. Even if this guy's feminist agenda and whatever opinions are extreme, it doesn't mean you HAVE to reply or react the same way. But that's what internet does, always and it gets tiring really. That's all I'm talking about. And in this every thread (that I'm not even gonan bother replying to), there are already 2-3 posts of people doing exactly that, proving my point perfectly and even going all "of you mad" or "seems personal to you *wink wink". I mean come on now... This is why I had this account for a few years and barely posted anything.

Anyway, nevermind. Just forget it.

he needs to cut a finger or two to prove that he's really sorry.

People aren't accepting his apology because he still openly held the same beliefs up until this year. We have receipts. The only thing he learned is not to use GG hashtags at the end of each tweet.

I'd love to believe he's changed and the game will hold none of that philosophy or themes he previously said it would have, because frankly it looks really nice. But at the end of the day I'm not going to die if I choose not to give $20 to someone I believe is just apologizing because it's going to affect his bottom line.

So, the potential responses when life hits you this way, from worst to least worst:

-Do Nothing
-Double Down
-Hollow/Insincere/Fake Apology
-Genuine Heartfelt Apology

This seems somewhere between the last two. It seems like they KINDA are sorry for some of the more drastic things they've said, but still aren't totally there on a lot of things based on recent stuff people have found.

I'm glad they didn't do the first two, at least?

Visually the game looks absolutely stunning, and was probably one of the standouts at the EA conference for me. Really got a huge blade runner vibe from it. I don't play a whole lot of indie games and dislike the 8-bit stylings so this one may not be for me, but I've added it to my wish list on steam. Kinda weird its not coming out for PS4.

Just reading the steam page, there isn't anything about a political view one way or the other in the description. Don't really care what a creators personal views are, either the game is good or it isn't.

...
Fucking hell. Was this supposed to calm me?
From that article:

(emphasis mine)
Yes this is indeed a person who I trust when it comes depictions of the female, you know what make that the human experience.

However that blogpost did in fact provide some clarity. It is now beyond clear that they are asshats.
I might read this wrong but I don't think he meant that she deserves to be judged but rather than not so long ago - she would have been. If that's the point, I'm not sure what's so wrong about it - it certainly seems that sex work is more socially acceptable than it used to be.

The thing is: this type of guy shouldn't get a platform. The publisher and Microsoft should NOT have let this game slip by. Now the damage is done, and a game about how progressivism destroyed society is out there for thousands of people to read about. I couldn't care less about him, but I most definitely will fight against what he represents.

You aren't excited to rehash the same nonsense GG talking points (and making Zoe Quinns life hell again for a week or two for no real reason other than they're angry)?

fuck no. I have lots of "old friends" IRL that I don't talk anymore because of this. Such a tiring subject.

I think boycotting a game, because of the ideals they represent, and ruining, harassing someone because she has a pussy is way different.

i don't think posting on neogaf is being extreme or vindictive. it's not like i'm harassing him in the manner of something like, i don't know, gamergate. before his on stage "sorry" he could have apologized. did he? nope. he posted what seems to be a combative tweet followed by a bunch of deflections away from his past behavior. so sorry if his apology that you put a lot of weight in rings hollow for some.

Wait, is Lorn doing the whole soundtrack or...? i donnow how this kind of things works

Would be incredible if true

Even if he contributed just a few tracks...
Before I was "Mh, maybe I'll give this a try down the line", but if the game ends up having an "all-star" soundtrack à-la Furi I'll be there D1.

Since then, they've released some PR fluff statements and the like trying to just write the tweets off as old news and he's changed since, but that's easy to do and there's no real indication they've actually changed recently at all:
Jesus christ...fuck this game.

Oh. Microsoft's not actually publishing this though are they?

She's in Microsoft Studios Publishing.

This cracked me up.

Well, if you put it that way...

The game was shown in Microsoft conference. Was tagged as being Launch exclusive witch means it can land on PS4 later. But as for now the game is only confirmend to Xbox, Win10 and steam.

Actually doing a gesture, beyond just apologetic words, that shows you're of a different mindset is pretty much the only way of actually redeeming yourself from something like this to me. They've contributed ammunition to the GGers, who are rallying around this game to make a point, so they need to take it away. Either by actively distancing themselves from anything GG, making some sort of donation, or some other proactive measurement to show where they stand. What they've done is worth next to nothing. Of course, they're not going to do that, because it is not what they believe in. They just want people to buy their game.

I know when you're a member of a certain class, it's somehow easier to empathize with people that haven't been disenfranchised over people who have. In fact, it comes naturally. We're pack animals, we stay in our pack. We readily relate to people who look like us.

If you don't understand why some people's reactions in this situation seem "black and white" to you, you need to do the work to educate yourself about their perspective, not just your own.

Thank you for this.

Nope, fuck this guy. The apology is pointless when a) he has made shitty comments recently and b) stated the entire background for the game is a world in which "feminism won and erased genders."

No.

Ye was thinking of a Furi like quality soundtrack for this game, excited to hear more stuff then :)

The game looks incredible, pretty much the most atmospheric and good looking game of the E3 so far and that with a pixel-look.

Regarding the theme of the game I am fascinated that the criticism went to comments against the modern, mostly radical feminism instead of the automatism and universal income. It's somehow funny that the description says that people are defining themselves more about consume instead of what they create even though that's basically what happens for aeons now, because most of the working parts of society is not creating anything and even if they do, it's not because they want to but because they must. Instead the whole discussion went to feminism even though Tim Soret makes it clear that he is an egalitarian, which is, contrary to feminism, non-sexist by definition.

a weak "i'm sorry" means nothing. I'd want to see complete disownment of the GGers, an apology to those they falsely targeted (Zoe, etc), gotta disown it completely.
