Latest Windows update has completely messed up my PCs gaming performence

I always had a rock solid 60fps in 4k on my 1080. (Farming Sim) Now it drops into the 30s after playing for a while. The thing is that it is perfectly fine for the first 20 minutes then I start getting the drops slowly. First the mid 50s, then the 40s then after 40 minutes I'm into the 30s. If I exit the game and come back in again, it is fine for 20 minutes again. I even tried unlocking my frame rate and it drops from 150-200 down to the 30s after 20 minutes as well.

I did a complete reinstall of windows cause I thought it was an issue with my game, a mod but it isn't. Many seem to be having the same issues across all sorts of games. Seems to be an Nvidia only issue. I tried turning off game mode, game recording etc but it didn't make a difference. Also updated to the latest Nvidia drivers. Also since the update, when I boot up my games I get a green screen before it goes into the game and that didn't happen before.

Also my GPU and CPU temps are in the 50s when it happens so it isn't a heat issue.

Anyone else have delayed performance issues like that?

Are you talking about the Creators Update specifically, or just the last roll-up of automatic updates that came out this past Tuesday? If it's the latter no probs with my Gtx 1060, if it's the former I've been putting that off as long as I can.

If you are talking about Creatos Update you could try disabling the "Record the gameplay" from the Xbox section in Settings.

It's version 15063 that it automatically updated to with HDR/game mode/ DVR etc

And DVR and Game mode is turned off.

I can't roll it back either. I just want to go back to the previous version I had no issues with

Could you try to open the task manager while playing? I do not think WIndows is taking GPU resources, so, if there is any kind of service getting the CPU/RAM, you should be able to find it pretty easily from there.

try different versions of the nvidia drivers and uninstall geforce experience just in case. also check other games.

I've actually had a longstanding issue that I can't figure out. Sometimes Overwatch launches at 20fps. I restart my computer and it works fine. Soooooooooo yeah. I wonder what the hell is going on. If anyone can offer some suggestions that would be amazing. :)

So I tried setting my resolution to 720p and it still does it.
Glad my 1080 is able to to 720/60....

I tried ALT + Enter but it doesn't do anything.

Windows 10 has a Game Mode that makes games perform worse (classic Microsoft engineering), so make sure to turn it off.

One of my friends was complaining about poor performance after the latest update, and it turned out that Dropbox wasn't playing nice. Not sure if you have it installed, but if so, try disabling it and see if it helps!

But the human eye can only see 30 fps.

Human eyes can see above 30 fps, but the brain can't process it so 60fps is pointless.

PS: My windows PC stopped performing good after 3 months of use and I still havn't figured out how to disable game DVR for counterstrike. I bought a pro to make up for my sloppy pc.

Do you have MSI afterburner or something like that. I've heard of similar problems related to that.

I have Asus's version of that but it was doing it even before I reinstalled it after updating windows

Check the gpu fans.
1080 features the gpu boost technology which boosts or downgrades gpu performance automatically to avoid exceeding temperature limits. The lower the temperature the higher the auto overclock and vice versa. If there is a fan issue you might get low performance. Use gpuz to monitor max temperature while playing.

Have you used lately any overclocking tool (eg: afterburner) which lets you control gpu fan speed, core overclocking etc? If you did, try resetting to defaukts.

It's not a temp issue. My gpu is holding steady at 50 the whole time. I set the fans to 100% and it was still doing it with the temps in the low 30s

So I'm am testing it now with unlocked frame rate just sitting there in game not moving at 720p resolution.

Minute 1 180fps
Minute 2 150fps
Minute 3 115fps
Minute 4 100fps
Minute 5 90fps
Minute 6 80fps
Minute 7 75 fps
Minute 8 70 fps
Minute 9 65 fps
Minute 10 62fps
Minute 11 60fps
Minute 12 57fps
Minute 13 55fps
Minute 14 53fps
Minute 15 51fps
Minute 16 50fps
Minute 17 48fps
Minute 18 47fps
Minute 19 44fps
Minute 20 44fps
Minute 21 43fps
Minute 22 42fps
Minute 23 42fps

After a while it will slowly continue to drop and het down to 30. The lower it gets the longer it takes to fall.

It holds steady slowly declining , no drops or spikes. Like it will flick back and forth between 51 and 50 for a bit then between 50 and 49.

My gpu temp holds steady the whole time

Do you have a internal gpu on your motherboard? Is it being accidentally used? Check power options?

Might need to stop sniffing glue
So THIS is how they're going to get people to buy an XBOX One X! It all makes sense now.

Why can't you roll back to previous version? Boot off a windows USB and use repair computer option.

Other thing to try would be to reinstall Windows then enable metered connection for your wired connection. For wifi you do it right in settings; for wired in registry. Just search; very easy. This prevents Windows from automatically downloading updates until you tell it to.

Or you can use the Group Policies to do it and it's a much better way of doing it.

Almost looks like a memory leak but it can't be that if it just happened with a W10 update (I guess, not sure though).
Is gpu usage changing too? Memory usage?

I have a official windows 10 home full version USB but from my understanding it will auto update. Is that not accurate? I read you can only turn auto update off in Pro.

Sorry you upgraded to Windows 10, enjoy MS's clusterfuck.

I just turned Game Mode off which gets enabled by default after the big updates from a few months ago.

Aside that, Win 10 is so much better than Win 7, which was the best Operating System ever.

I just don't put up with any Xbox related shit.

Some kind of malware? there are bitcoin mining gpu-using malware out there.

Have you checked to see if Power Saver mode is turned on in the Windows settings? A Windows update automatically turned that on for me once and it messed up performance until I turned it off.

I was having issues myself. I turned game mode and dvr off and removed the Xbox app. Everything has went back to normal since.

Well you're not turning off auto update per se; you're setting the connection to metered. I don't know about Home vs Pro. If the registry option is there, I assume it's do-able, just check the path for the key.

I would download Display Driver Uninstaller from Wagnard and completely uninstall your current Nvidia drivers before installing the latest ones again.

https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=807

Make sure you have your Win10 password ready, as you need that when signing into Safemode (doesn't support PIN).

When starting the program, let it use the safemode-option and completely remove all Nvidia files.

I have had a similar issue since the Windows update, except I can't upgrade to any of the latest Nvidia drivers. If I do it makes all games stutter like crazy. Having to use driver version 376.33 just to play without the terrible stutter.

Game mode/DVR is all turned off.

I've been having issues with my computer since updating too. If I run games in fullscreen they run at a locked 24fps (according to Fraps), but changing to borderless windowed I get my usual performance. I have game mode disabled but I dunno about the DVR thing. Have no clue what's up with it, but it's definitely frustrating.

Sounds like a Gsync/Refresh rate issue to me. What monitor do you have, and what's it set to in Windows?

Are you using the "Nvidia Geforce Experience" program?

I was having frame/heat issues with OW after an update and tried everything, it took me months to figure out that if the in-game settings are even slightly different than the nvidia geforce settings (AA quality, etc.) it will cause issues.

I disabled geforce after that and haven't used it since, things have been much improved.

if all of your software fixes dont work (as the other people have suggested) you may have to consider its a hardware issue

First i would remove any overclocking even tho your temps may be fine your overclock may just not be stable anymore

then i would run memtest if that comes up fine try running the system if one stick of ram just to rule out its a ram problem

then the stages get abit more tricky i would then try a different gpu then a different psu but most people dont have one sitting around

there was one only software fix that i seen online and that was disable steam overlay

how to disable game dvr just incase poeple would like to know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dudXL9Kqs4U

Thank you!! I downloaded this version of driver and it works again!
