'Venom' (With Tom Hardy) takes place in the spider-man homecoming universe (MCU)

So I guess he will exist in Spiderman movies only but be completely ignored in marvel movie canon? I didn't know venom was being done by the Marvel Netflix and TV series team

Kevin Feige was sitting there, so there it is.

Whatever Kevin signs off on is ok in my book. The guy has more than earned my trust.

Means nothing till we see anyone from the MCU show up. Which I'm not betting on. Nice try Sony.

Yeah I mean this is to be taken with a grain of salt. They flat out lied originally and tried to say that the "Amazing" movies were prequels to the Raimi ones at one point.

This is actually good news to me. Had zero interest in some sort of random spin off in it's own universe bit if it's part of the MCU that helps for me.

Still might be bad though

I guess the best way to make comic book movies more authentic to the source material is to have fucked up continuity.

Ugh, keep that far away from the MCU. Venom is a bad character, and Sony haven't done a good spider-man film since 2004.

But Homecoming is part of the MCU?

Amy Pascal has just confirmed 'VENOM' takes place in the 'SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING' universe!

For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It's a Sony Project."

So which is it?

You are all crazy, Venom is a great character although I have zero faith that Sony will handle anything about this right.

I honestly do not see a problem with Sony/Marvel creating R-rated movies that are tonally separate from the MCU but definitely a part of it.

Why is grown ass Tom Hardy the rival for a kid still in high school
Spidey's villains not believing they're being defeated by a kid is kind of a thing in the comics. The juxtaposition of this high schooler compared to the older Avengers/Ultimate and his rogues

Cos he's just awful. I've read every single issue of the amazing spider-man from 1963-2008 odd, and I've never enjoyed a single Venom story, they're all terrible.
The very first arc where Brock scares Mary Jane half to death, puts Peter back into the classic suit and has direct ties to both past stories and the links between them making Venom a bigger badder boogeyman with a grudge, was really good with Venom as more of a device. I'll stand by that storyline.

As a character the only Venom worth a damn was early Flash mostly Remender but some of Bunn, but it went to shit once it went to space.

In sum Venom is like Micheal Myers great as a nebulous shape but complete ass once you try to define him.

Venom worked when he was terrifying, which was few and far between. Those early stories did a great job of presenting Brock as a threat that was also almost undetectable thanks to blocking Peter's spider sense, blending into his surroundings, and knowing everything about Spider-Man. It also helped that Eddie was the one villain that scared the SHIT out of Peter, so you felt all the more tense when Pete and MJ discovered he had escaped from prison or something.
