OnePlus 5 design revealed

Cheaper like off contract or on?

There are no contracts anymore, it's just financing. Either pay the phone off and do what you want, or pay the 0 interest monthly payments. Regardless, Unlocked S8's are currently $424 on Samsung.com, the deal is $300 off when you trade in any working phone valued at $25+. Similarly, Tmo has been running BOGO on the S8 and G6 seemingly every other week. I have to assume these are being sold enmasse on the second hand market for less than $500, or just go halvsies with a friend/family. The G6 has also been under $600 with 2 easily flipped $100+ value freebies (like a Google Home, LG Smart Watch, or LG Tablet), which would easily take you well under $500 effective. This phone at this price point makes no sense.

Well looks like me need upgrade in x years wouldn't be a Oneplus device. That price increase in UK is hmmm.... even for base 6GB/64GB.

camera not in the middle is the absolute worst that can happen to a phone.
Why is that? Especially with dual cameras, the componentry takes up a lot of space that other connections have to wrap around or move through. Best to have it at a corner of the phone.

I can't believe Apple won't sue them over this.
They're both pretty non-descript black rectangles. If you have a dual camera then it makes sense to move it to the corner, and you cant have the antennas bisect the camera so they kind of had to copy that part too.

Yeah, it looks like an Iphone 7 plus. I dont think that's a bad thing. The design is neither good or bad just kinda there. I would've preferred to have the home button on the back of the device and a larger screen

As mentioned the deals Samsung, Apple, and others can offer through carriers like good trade in values, gift cards, etc. really narrow down any price advantage Oneplus has. It's basically a little cheaper than the G6 or S8 due to their lack of deals.

Anyone know if there's a way to edit the shipping address on the oneplus site?

I was thinking about canceling and reordering, but the UI isn't letting me :(

Rumor mill has it at $600-750 depending if you get the 6GB of ram or 8GB of ram model.

I sold my 6P last week in anticipation of getting either this phone or the Essential. I personally am leaning towards getting The Essential phone.
If you're going to get this please get the blue and copper for me. Stunning

The only reason I want rid of my Nexus 6P is because I'm concerned the same battery issue will happen to my replacement. This OnePlus 5 seems like a downgrade in some regards: front finger-print sensor, down to 1080p resolution, smaller battery, shite design.

On top of that it doesn't have the two things I wished the Nexus 6P had: water resistance and OIS.

I know people will call it an iPhone clone, but it's actually a clone of an iPhone clone. They just reused the design from their sister company. Google oppo r11.

Thinking about getting it, anyone knows what's the secret code is from keynote or I should wait bit more for more in depth reviews, afraid it will sell out..
Pixel isn't available here and costs 500 eur more so yeah this seems like best bet, bezels and full HD are minus and no waterproofing but besides that top notch specs imo

I wonder if they'll offer the remaining 3T stock on ebay or somewhere to clear it out or if that'll take place in other countries or maybe in places where they have retail. I'd like to grab one of those cheaper.

They did that on their website a few weeks prior (no discount). If they have any stock left, presumably it goes to the Indian market where the phone is still available for purchase.

I'm positive you could find someone local selling a 3T for less than retail, though.

Saw the camera comparisons between this and the iPhone 7, very impressed actually! It beats the iPhone 7 quite clearly in many situations.

Sold out.. Would have gotten it probably, not I'll have to wait and have chance to change my mind lol, still digging the s8 looks and display :\
Anyone knows how long it takes to restock, based on previous phones?

this is just the "early bird" special. The phone doesn't officially release until next Tuesday. I'm sure they'll have plenty by then

Only really two things stopping me from grabbing this... Not stock Android and the chin with the button

The price is right though, I've been using a low-end Motorola since my Nexus 5 died, I'll have to hold out until the next revision of the Pixel phones comes out to see if I grab this or one of those.

I was gonna preorder one but the Reviews keep me holding back.
But I checked the site a lot of times yesterday and right now: Just keep hitting F5 until it becomes available. Either they regularly update the stock or some people keep canceling their orders.

No need for this phone since I still have the OP3.

However, I do hope that they don't fold and have a release next year. I'll wait for 4K HDR.

I don't know how trustworthy XDA is, but here:

Do NOT Trust OnePlus 5 Benchmarks in Reviews – How our Review Unit is Grossly Cheating at Benchmarks
So how does it work, and what’s the difference? Last time around, OnePlus introduced changes to the behavior of their ROM whenever it detected a benchmark application was opened. Such application names were explicitly listed by their package IDs within the ROM in a manifest that specified the targets. Then, the ROM would alter the frequency in relation to an adjusted CPU load — our tools showed CPU load would drop to 0% regardless of obvious activity within the application, and the CPU would see a near-minimum frequency of 1.29GHz in the big cores and 0.98GHz in the little cores. This minimum frequency reduced the effective frequency range, which in turn reduced the number of step frequencies; in benchmarks, this resulted in slightly lower variance and, as we showed, higher sustained performance as the higher minimum frequency could not be overridden by thermal throttling. In short, cheating behavior was clear and demonstrable by both looking at score variance, and by monitoring CPU frequencies throughout the benchmark, which showed a frequency floor that – for the most part – allowed the device to consistently score closer to its full potential.

The OnePlus 5, on the other hand, is an entirely different beast — it resorts to the kind of obvious, calculated cheating mechanisms we saw in flagships in the early days of Android, an approach that is clearly intended to maximize scores in the most misleading fashion. While there are no governor switches when a user enters a benchmark (at least, we can’t seem to see that’s the case), the minimum frequency of the little cluster jumps to the maximum frequency as seen under performance governors. All little cores are affected and kept at 1.9GHz, and it is through this cheat that OnePlus achieves some of the highest GeekBench 4 scores of a Snapdragon 835 to date – and likely the highest attainable given its no-compromise configuration with its specific configuration. Scores certainly higher than those obtained by similar devices and Qualcomm’s own MSM8998 test device which we were lucky enough to benchmark. Below is a list of benchmark applications affected:

AnTuTu (com.antutu.benchmark.full)
Androbench (com.andromeda.androbench2)
Geekbench 4 (com.primatelabs.geekbench)
GFXBench (com.glbenchmark.glbenchmark27)
Quadrant (com.aurorasoftworks.quadrant.ui.standard)
Nenamark 2 (se.nena.nenamark2)
Vellamo (com.quicinc.vellamo)

Most disappointing thing about this is the price. Completely destroys the allure of the OnePlus line.

Agreed. This looks like a glorified iPhone clone and a half-assed Android flagship. Enthusiasts will pay more for IOS, SD card support, and water resistance. Casuals won't care and will pick up a Moto G for half the price.
