Recommendations for anime like Attack on Titan?

I know, I know, but bear with me. I am absolutely in love with Shingeki no Kyojin and now I am searching for an anime like it, packed with adrenaline, awesome music and great action. Even though I am a fan of it, I'm not really an experienced anime watcher, since I have only watched a couple of other anime shows (to name a few: Death Note, Steins;Gate, Code Geass...) so any recommendation would help to ease the pain of waiting for the next season.

All I got for you OP are
One Punch Man
Mob Psycho 100
Thunderbolt Fantasy
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

TF has great action and SFX for one thing.

I wouldn't really say that OPM and MP100 is anything at all like Attack on Titan, Death Note and Code Geass

I would suggest Tokyo Ghoul, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Sidonia no Kishi, Hellsing Ultimate, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Claymore(ending sucks tho)

Jojo is 1) totally unlike Attack on Titan; 2) a million times better than Attack on Titan.

OP, anime is bad and you shouldn't watch it.

Jojo starts kind of archetypical, but the early Jojo is still very much worth watching for its growth into brilliance.

How is JoJo anything like snk lol. Kabaneri of the iron fortress is extremely similar. I'd have to also recommend Mirai Nikki as it has a tone close to snk but also some great action scenes. Black Lagoon is like 80s action movie the anime in some ways.

Yeh, Kabaneri of the iron fortress is pretty good. It's also very, very pretty.

I believe it was made by the same studio who made AoT, might be wrong though

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood would be the only one that comes to mind that shares some of the drama and excitement of AoT. It's fucking great so there's no reason to not just watch it right now. :) (Can't remember the music, though :D ).

For over-the-top action and a surprisingly gripping story look no further than Gurren Lagann.

If you want to see something super weird an brutal watch Gantz.

Depends on what kind of similarity you're looking for.

Disgusting looking monsters, gruesome deaths and depressing atmosphere? Blue Gender.
Awesome action? One Punch Man.
Great animation and better characterization? Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis and its sequel, Virgin Soul.

What I really like about Attack on Titan is how it depicts the sense of despair the characters are exposed to. These "No fucking way! This can't be happening!" moments.

One series that does this nicely is Psycho-Pass. Maybe you wanna give it a try.

They're still great shows in their own rights and are short enough to watch through and enjoy :3

Totally not One Punch Man. It's meant for people already familiar with the medium. You'll just miss most of the jokes.

I would recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The story is complete and keeps going forward because there is no filler. Good mix of drama, suspense and humor. It's not jampacked with adrenaline though.

There are some that would recommend the original Fullmetal Alchemist. There are also those who'd suggest watching the first 23 OG eps, then continuing with episode 10 onwards with Brotherhood. I guess the reason is that Brotherhood assumes the viewer already saw the original and tried to go through the early material as quick as possible. I ended up watching both (several times) and they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

This thread is relevant to my interest. I'm also a big fan of AoT. I particularily like the constant sense of dread and despair. I'm really into this kinda atmosphere.

I'm not really that big of an anime watcher but I recommend Re;Zero. It's a very different setting and premise but there's certainly some despair to be found there. I quite enjoyed it.

Very true. Personally I prefer them to AoT.

I was just thinking that if he specifically wanted stuff like AoT, the light hearted nature of OPM and MP100 might not be what he was looking for :)

Fate/Zero
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Also, Ping Pong The Animation. It's not really action, but it will surely make you excited.

Fate/Zero has great action, amazing animation, good characters and a darker tone than your average action anime.

Just....ignore literally everything else in the Fate franchise

The first two episodes of Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse

But only the first two episodes, and then definitely stop watching.

Depends on what kind of similarity you're looking for.

Great animation and better characterization? Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis and its sequel, Virgin Soul.

Blue Gender is such an underrated show.

Man, I really wanted to like this show since the animation was so beautiful, and it had enjoyable characters, but the plot was so boringly generic.

This too. The way it just immediately crashed after the first two episodes was terrible.

It is, but the characters really carried the show for me. And the world itself is really interesting.

If you enjoy the world building and the mystery aspect of AoT then you might like Shinsekai Yori. It doesn't really have much action, but it's worth a watch for the story.

Fair enough, I can't think of amny games with a more darker tone to it from the past few years, likely cuz I forgot them XP

I like how almost everyone ignored the op's criteria, told him his taste were shit, and yelled names that aren't anything like the anime in question.

Kabaneri of the iron fortress feels a lot like attack on titan and I recommend it.

If you liked code geass you'll probably enjoy valvrave

Many of the above suggested anime are better then the two I named, but they'll scratch the same itch better then something like a Jojo of gurren lagann (though both are excellent)

OP, you are almost exactly in the same situation as I am. Especially our tastes! The only exception would be Death Note, as I saw the first two episodes with my girlfriend and I wasn't a fan of it even though everyone in the universe thought I would love it.

So I'm going out on a limb and recommend Madoka Magica, for the sole reason that I adore it and I think we have similar tastes ^^

Gantz... Uhhh... well.... I.... nah... it goes from good to bad rather quickly.

Ahhh that's a shame, I admit that I've only seen a few hours of it, but I really liked reading the manga.

I am not qualified to answer this question. So I'll just say "Bubblegum Crisis" and see myself out.

If you're open to any suggestions I'd say check out Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. They aren't really similar to AoT but they are great and well worth watching. Both have awesome soundtracks as well.

Kabaneri in terms of pure similarity.

And in terms of what you're looking for action-wise:

Fate/Zero
Fate Stay/Night
Claymore
Basilisk
Hunter x Hunter
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Sword of the Strangers

Check out Kabaneri. It's by the same studio and is pretty hype.

Kōtetsujō no Kabaneri ?

Can't believe y'all are recommending Kabaneri. Show was completely awful, especially regarding the villain. Yes it has obvious similarities with AoT, but it doesn't mean much if the show sucks. :p

If you enjoy the world building and the mystery aspect of AoT then you might like Shinsekai Yori. It doesn't really have much action, but it's worth a watch for the story.

I agree with this. Kaiji, Black Lagoon, Fate/Zero are other things that come to mind.

As others have said Kabaneri is essentially an attack on Titan clone with trains. Watch that first and foremost. Fullmetal Alchemist is a show popular in the west for action and also having some dark plot elements.

Kabaneri if you're looking for something very similar as in by WIT and Sawano music. Be aware it is getting a sequel season next year.
