Beyond Good & Evil 2 in-engine E3 game video

People all like 'in Ancel we trust'...why?

Seems like he's managed to make a sequel to a hugely beloved game that doesn't resemble said game in any way whatsoever.

At what point in a 4am, coffee fuelled, haven't slept for 72 hours, crunch letsavoidavivenditakeover meeting did somebody suggest that beyond good and evil should be an mmo?

That city didn't look too good up close. It will be interesting to see how they incorporate real cities in the game.

The city and stuff was just basic assets to show scale. This is just a tech demo to show what's possible with the engine they have.

Looks okay. I'm not interested yet to be honest and am kind of disappointed in what they chose to show.

But it's early and I have an open mind.

That's all they have to show I'm pretty sure. Development hasn't even really begun as I understand.

This is Ancel's pet project, his baby.

This is why we say we trust him.

Also it isn't a fucking mmo.

well, now I really just cant see this beeing Switch exclusive

This might even be the first next gen game we are seeing, this sounds super ambitious and far off

Switch is about to get that Beyond Good and Evil 2 spin off title; a 2D platformer staring Jade and Pey'j
and I wouldn't even be mad.

That engine looks brilliant. I hope they can make a great game using it.

Can imagine this engine becoming the foundation for Ubisofts paint by number AAA games. So glad it is Michel Ancel at the helm on this, if they can get close to what they did with UbiArt it should be something great.

Wow, this is a damn exciting project. But yeah, no way this is coming anytime soon. I'm even hoping this won't come to PS4/One, if those platforms hold them back. PS5/XB2/PC, here we go.

So Ancel really really really wished he had made No Man's Sky. You can play BGE music in the background all you want, that doesn't make this BGE.

Yeah, I'm wondering when/if we'll see some gameplay that harkens back to the original. Glad that they game finally got announced, but it certainly isn't shaping up to what I expected it was going to be so far.

I'm not too hyped on the whole scale thing. I want to see them add content and density to make cities and stuff come to life. Make it interesting. And not just huge landmasses that you can look at in awe from your spaceship. The handling of the space shift looked nice, and I would be fine if it controlled the same way in the final product.

It's not a MMO...

2+2=5

The Amiga Brotherhood
Imo it has some jrpg aesthetic to it, sometimes it looked like a modern Final Fantasy overworld map.

Exactly. Also..

Why would you doubt a guy like that?

Ambitious is basically an understatement. The tech is impressive, but what I'll really be impressed by is when/if he lands in that city at the beginning and it's actually filled with characters/NPCs/content. And then that they can pull that off for the rest of the game areas too >_> All the while having a (hopefully) good single player story mode.

I see from where people are coming with ''this is not BG&E'' but I think a similar kind of spirit might be there.

To me the first game was so clever, innovative and had this tone of adventure due to the awesome exploration like very few had, and this could convey that too. I just hope they create worlds that are fun to explore and characters that are interesting to interact

I would play the hell out of that too

It's not an MMO. It's a single player game where if you wish, you can be assisted by online friends.

People need to stop spreading this kind of misinformation.

Exactly. Everything Ancel has shown off, and seems to be excited about, revolves around seamless space exploration. Yeah, remember all that space exploration in BGE? All two minutes of it when you flew to the moon of Hillys? Yeah, that's what everyone loved about BGE!

Sweet jesus at that scale. At least we know riding the ships will be fun.

I want to see the handcrafted content, the authored stuff than just the No Man's Sky/Star Citizen stuff. But I guess the more procedural stuff is easier to develop first.

Who said Star Citizen would be procedural like No Man's Sky? I guarantee that they're using procedural elements to populate the planets in this game.

It would also help if people understood what procedural meant in a greater context than just the NMS talking points.

Here is a good starting point:

I mean, that was super impressive tech, but it was in no way related to Beyond Good and Evil at all. If you showed me that footage without telling me what it is two weeks ago, I'd have said a lot of things, but BG&E2 would not be one of them.

So damn ambitious!
Gonna tone the hype level down a little because reasons (NMS anyone?).

But damn that's a good looking project son, damn good looking!
Anyone feeling that Gorillaz vibes?

But it's not. You can play this singleplayer all you want and get help from NPC's or online friends. The game will still have a cast of characters and a plot at its core.

I thought this game was online only and everyone is going to be messing around in the same world?

So clearly a next gen title and even then we'll see. I just saw that the first teaser was fucking nine years ago, what the hell man.

Yeah it looks good but is this even BG&E anymore? I'm also surprised that the game is so damn huge and ambitious, because I never imagined that this franchise warranted such a vision. With that I mean I wasn't aware the first one was a huge success. Great game for sure, but I didn't think of a scale like this for a game like BG&E 2.

And I'm still wondering if it's like the first one in that I can just play it on my own and do missions and eventually finish that story or is it online now like Wildlands for example?

Why is this beyond good and evil?

Notlikethis.gif

Because "Beyond Good and Evil 2" never had to have Jade and Peyj to make someone who loved the first one love the second one.

I honestly don't understand why people are so off put by the a prequel. I've got faith that the characters this time around will still be awesome and the worlds will be as enjoyable to explore as Hyllis was.

Exploration, from a game play perspective is the most important part because its was huge part of BGE1.

Their is obviously going to be some sort of BGE1 tie in, be it to Jad, Peyj, or the DOMz.

Not sure why people are doubting this will come out. Ubi got the money and teams for it. Just depends on how long it'll take to come out and if it'll be a buggy mess. :p

They got a lot of time to add BGE elements to it. Development just started. Give them time.

You can play it solo and be assisted by online friends if you want.

The demo is impressive scale wise but I'm extremely skeptical of this thing ever coming out. I could totally see Vivendi axing this thing as soon as they take over. I believe in Ancel though so I will try to stay optimistic.

After seeing the demo my hype is pretty deflated. BG&E 1 was good because it was a tight, character-driven game with a good story. This looks like No Man's Sky with a different name and multiplayer.

It's early so maybe things will change but I'm so tired of vast, empty sandboxes I can't be excited for this new direction.

Well, I think nobody suggested it as I don't think it will be a MMO.

Not sure how they'll manage to build so many assets on such a large scale while accounting for high detail like that statue.

Regardless, the game looks ready for production, but I'm still doubtful it'll survive Vivendi's takeover and the problem of an ambitious game design.

Holy shit, he's not kidding about the sense of scale.

This also seems to do some stuff that was missing in No man's sky, like planet rotation

Still bitter about the lack of Jade though.
