Toilet keeps unclogging and clogging itself and I'm not sure what's causing it

Alright GAF, so two days ago I was having a relaxing night poop when I heard a gurgling sound from the toilet. Fearing the worst, I got up and tried to flush it, and sure enough, the toilet was clogged. Now, I'm pretty liberal with my toilet paper use, so this isn't my first rodeo as far as clogs go, but this thing refused to unclog no matter how many times I plunged it. I decided to worry about it in the morning, so I just left it there and went to bed.

When I woke up the next morning, the toilet was no longer clogged, so I had my morning poop and went about my day. When I got home, the toilet was clogged again. I made an attempt to unclog it, but again, it refused to move. I noticed this time that the water level was slowly going down even when I wasn't plunging it, so whatever was blocking it wasn't completely sealing it off. I ended up just leaving it clogged again.

Today and woke up, and the toilet was again, unclogged. I flushed it a few times to make sure it was working right, and decided not to poop in it today, to see if that was the issue. Later, I was playing video games in the living room when I heard the gurgling noise I heard the first time, and sure enough, the toilet was clogged for a third time.

I have no idea what could be causing it at this point. I haven't really seen a solution for it online anywhere. I've seen people say to get a snake, but I don't really have the money for that right now. I put in a work order for the maintenance people at my apartment, but they half ass everything they fix, so I'm worried they're going to get here when I'm not here and the toilet is working and just leave without fixing anything.

tl;dr: Toilet keeps clogging and unclogging itself without anything appearing to actually cause a clog. Using a plunger does nothing, but lower the water level. I just want to poop in peace.

Take a bucket of water and quickly dump it in the toilet bowl. Works way better than the plunger for me. Makes you it's a lot water to have enough force to pushed whatever is clogging it.

Sounds like you have an issue further down the pipe, maybe a P trap thats damaged or incorrectly installed

Would this cause the other toilets in the house to be clogged as well? Other toilet in the apartment works fine.
Not necessarily. The other toilet might not show the symptoms, but your sewer could still be blocked or partially blocked. Drains are weird.

Yeah, don't do this. Unless you love flooding your bathroom.

If the other toilets are fine then I'd say definitely snake the problematic one.

Alright. I'm going to request the maintenance dude brings a snake, and just hope he actually does.

I'll give this a try when the water level goes down again.

drop a cherry bomb in the toilet and flush.

Wouldn't the fuse go out in the water? Also, a firework in a toilet just doesn't seem like a good plan.

It depends how the house and or apartment in question is plumbed. Sounds like a blocked sanitary drain that slowly lets out fluid. Recommend calling a plumber. Do not use caustic chemicals.

Do you have kids? My niece flushed a toilet paper spring holder down the toilet that caused issues like that. Needed to be snaked out. Prepare to pay some $$

Do you live in an apartment or a space that would have shared plumbing?

This happened to us not long ago because our neighbor was flushing those flushable baby wipes, but apparently they were not going down. Our shower wouldn't drain, toilet wouldn't flush, but it would drain out a little over night. It wasn't fun.

Might be toilet paper stuck in there?

My toilet made these really weird sounds...it literally sounded like dying screaming

I used some of this stuff

Only been about a month now, but the noise is gone and my toilet seems fine. No clue what kind of magic it is or if it actually did anything. Helpful bacteria ftw!

Flush multiple times during the process.
Why are you waiting until the end and repeatedly clogging the toilet?

That's pretty gross...

Had a similar problem late last year. It was an issue further down in the main line; some roots had grown in and needed to be removed. It took a few hours, but it got done. If you're in an apartment, it shouldn't cost you anything. Call your landlord and let them know what's up.

Edit: We also have multiple toilets in the house, but only one of them had the issue.

No kids. I'm the only one who uses that toilet.

Alright. Hopefully maintenance can sort it out. I'll avoid the bucket of water method.

What floor/s are the toilets on?

First rodeo doesn't mean every time I use the toilet. Also, when I say I left the clog there, I meant just the clog. Plunged it so much that any waste had gone down the toilet and it was just clear water when I gave up

There's an obstruction further on down the line. If you're lucky, a coat hanger can work it loose. Likely though, either you (or your landlord) is gonna have to go in there.

Dont use a coat hanger, you dont want to scratch the glaze thats on the porcelain

Similar thing happened to me. Turns out one of the kids flushed a bar of soap and it got caught most of the way down the toilet. Had to take the whole toilet off and reverse snake it since I didn't know what the prob was. Either that or you're blocked further downstream.

There's no reason for it to ever happen unless you have extremely low water pressure, or a broken toilet, though.
Unless saving that $0.0005 on the water bill (which you'll waste clearing out the clog) is really worth it.

That's nice. It's also not at all the issue I'm having right now, but thanks for being concerned about me clogging the toilet ocusainaly, I guess

Is it a house or an apt building? If a building, it seems to me that that particular toilets plumbing is being affected by other users in the building. In any case it's not a normal thing and a plumber needs to clear the root cause (blockage somewhere).

Apartment. Used the wrong word there. I should hopefully have maintaince down here soon. I was really specific on the work order, so hopefully it'll actually get fixed

Dude you need to start flushing more.

By the sound of your bountiful visits, maybe flush 3x for every session?.....

Our sink was clogging the same way a few months ago, but the problem was actually in the amenity's bathroom downstairs. So maybe you have a similar problem?
