Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

Finding a decent wireless keyboard for the PS4 is harder than I thought. Been searching all kinds of brands in Amazon, but I really just need the following in a potential keyboard:

1. No dongle required (I've got all the USB slots used on my PS4)

2. Rechargeable through micro USB (not an absolute requirement, but I prefer not having to replace the battery)

I don't need it to come with a mouse (trackpad would be okay, assuming it works on PS4), just something under $20 and reliable.

How else would it connect if not by dongle?

Bluetooth, which PS4 supports without needing a dongle.

So here’s a pricey solution: The Razer Turret. It’s Bluetooth (with a dongle for PC), and even comes with a charging dock. It’s designed for livingroom couch play. It’s $150 though, and comes with a mouse (the keyboard sits on your lap with a little mouse tray, and the mouse sticks to the tray pretty well). Its keys aren’t deep clicky keys, it’s definitely a portable solution, but it works well for couch play.

All I know about TBN is that apparently healer shields take priority, so I can now troll DRK on AST with compulsive overshielding.

AST troll healer confirmed. Trolls Scholar shields and now Dark Knight.

It's been a weird digression of tank options each expansion:

2.x - Right side gear options + Stance Dancing
3.x - Vit right side (maybe a str ring) + Stance Dancing
4.x - Vit right side + Tank stance only

I just want to know the thought process behind taking away options each time.

They want people to play tanks, so randomly nerfing them for no discernible reason will make them more attractive.

The weird thing about the tank changes is that I don't think they actually do much for the 'low' end of players. Tank AP calculations seem to mostly focus on hammering down the high-end, instead of lifting the low end. If you were a 100% VIT tank in ARR, and are a 100% VIT tank now, nothing has changed much. It's just the people who wanted to push that keep getting blocked.

Also why is Tenacity so bad. Just in general. Why would they make a secondary that seems about as bad as parry.

Pretty much. It's trying to hammer down on people who want to enjoy the tank jobs to their fullest.

I've seen some comments saying that you need 600-1000 tenacity for a 1% damage increase/less damage taken or something like that. Basically it's garbage.

Direct Hit seems to be neat though.

I don't even know what to stat my tank with. I'm assuming CRIT/DET left side and STR Right side because TEN is confirmed junk and if yoshiP wants me to stay in Shield oath 100% of the time might as well make my crits hurt I guess.

All right side slaying, swap out for VIT as needed. I put VIT on the slaying accessories and some people were saying Direct Hit is nice on tanks since they don't get it normally so I just put a bunch of Direct Hit on the left side.

Before this the highest Bloodspiller crit I got was about 8K.

Now it crits for about 13K at the highest I've seen so far.

Syphon Strike/Souleater/Carve and Spit routinely crit for around 7-8K now.

EDIT: Just realized yesterday how you barely lose TP. I was hitting a dummy as DRK for almost 10-20 minutes I think and I still had around 900 TP by the end of it.

Man... now I need to farm VIT VI.
I have a bunch of 270 slaying.
How's your survivability? Susan hits pretty fucking hard sometimes. In PUGs I'd be worried of getting bowled over with less health and unreliable healers.

Good/bad news: VIs don't work on 270 gear.

Tanks still trying to be DPS? Do the slaying accs just have better secondaries or what?

They have STR. Tank accessories have VIT. In 4.0, VIT does not contribute to damage AT ALL and thus the entire right side is secondaries and HP. Given that everything right now is not an HP threshold issue, the VIT does nothing. So 270 slaying.

And let's not get into how unbelievably depressing it is that all these nerf efforts have still failed to create a meaningful damage gap between half of DF DPS and a tank actually trying. Getting Susano in trial Roulette should not end with a DRK in, like, third place for damage while main tanking.

Like Idk, I'm getting up there in ilvls...
When you're capped out and can hold Enmity, you're basically going "what else can I do?" I had my STR ring on for the longest time with VIT ACC otherwise. I'm gonna just throw on STR bit by bit, see how it goes. I'm still weary as fuck on these fucking PUG healers letting me get blasted to kingdom come despite my best efforts.

BUT LET ME TELL YOU THOSE FUCKING HOLY SPIRIT CRITS

You guys had all the fun before, now that you let me have big critties, don't think for a second I'm not gonna chase those numbers. Yall fucked up.

Are the new EX primals more an instance of knowing the mechanics, or having the gear?

If I walk in there as a tank with the mechanics down at ilvl 300, will I be alright or should I aim for that 305-310 range first?

Read up mechanics, ilv 300 is more than enough.

Susano is the easiest shit as a tank. So long as you do the mechanics, you could go in well below 300. You're more likely to die from your party failing mechanics than Susano hits.

Phase 1:
MT: Just learn when Susano swings his untelegraphed big hit, don't stand in AoE
OT: DPS

Phase 2
MT: Block the first big sword hit
OT: Eat the balls from NE and work clockwise, hit sprint.
Then OT blocks the big sword and MT eats the balls in the same pattern.

Phase 3: Tank swap after every Stormsplitter (mitigate that hit)

That's basically it.

Mechanics. You'll be okay.

Got my DRG to 60 but starting to get problems with how to lay my hotbars out on PS4. There's just so many buttons to press that I'm getting confused and keep pressing the wrong ones and screwing up combo's.

Is playing on a joypad (relatively) straight forward and I'm just being a useless scrub who needs to practice?

Put up a CD or 2 for the tank buster/swap in Susano and you'll be fine at 300

I don't suppose there's a way to speed up the launcher patch/game downloads? I just added a game time card to my account so I could log in but I have 27GB to download and it's only going at about 7mbyte/sec, my connection can do 2-3 times that.

I was getting ~20mb/s the day before SB launched so it's definitely possible to go higher than that unless it has changed since then.

yeah it's gotten a bit further along now and has suddenly speeded up, so maybe I will get to play tonight after all!

I think it's mostly just the amount of traffic the servers are receiving rn. On EA launch day I was pulling 3mbps

It's especially straightforward imo as a DRG since you have focused and streamlined rotations. I can upload my hotbars pics later. Basically you want your 2 combos on face buttons so you can move without losing combos and cooldowns on dpad. Make sure ID - Dis - CT and TT - VT - FT on same face buttons so you don't press wrong combo. R2 + L2 / L2 + R2 hotbar are for AoE rotations, 4th combo finishers (on face buttons), geirskogul. Double tap R2/L2 are for long cooldowns like battle litany or invigorate.

Yep.

Tanks still trying to be DPS? Do the slaying accs just have better secondaries or what?

VIT no longer contributes to damage so the extra HP if you don't need it is worthless.

Should tanks do as much damage as a DPS? No, but they should feel an increase in power instead of getting nerfed going into an expansion and subsequent patches due to the changes.

There are people who feel bad because they got out DPSed by a tank. And that's not because there's anything wrong with the tank, it's merely because they are bad and instead of improving so they can easily surpass tank damage with an improved rotation they instead whine and complain for them to be nerfed so they can continue to be bad but at least the tank doesn't do more damage than them anymore.

Some people won't be happy until they nerf tank damage till they're down to 3 digits. It's sort of funny to me that there's talk of doing things to get people to play tanks, then treating tank players as monsters for wanting to see some improvement and positive feedback in terms of damage, pretty much what you would traditionally expect with a new expansion that comes with an increase in level cap and stronger gear.

Man... now I need to farm VIT VI.

Haven't done any EX stuff yet. You'll have to experiment.

Dungeons are fine.

Nice, thanks all. Will give that a go sometime soon then.

Just to tack on unnecessary extra tank information, a lot of the fight times out fairly well for new tank stuff (more so if you're WAR as 2m timers are their thing). Spoilers in case:

Ukehi (raid-wide AoE) is roughly every 60s so you can always Reprisal it before it goes off to cover all the stomps; this means every other can be hit with Divine Veil, you can Dark Mind every set, and WAR just sort of shrugs at it.

Stormsplitter (tank swap) itself is every 60s and you'll personally get tank bustered every 120s. This fight is basically built for Shirk and I usually just eyeball Shirk coming off cooldown to know when my tankbuster is coming and to look for Provoke effect. WAR shines here in getting to Rampart+Vengeance(+IB, if you're in Defiance) every tankbuster with Thrill/Conv, Raw Intuition, and Equilibrium available for the random auto attack damage and mechanics; Sentinel / Dark Wall @180s still has a little desync but it's still manageable with just Rampart+Sheltron|TBN. I've taken zero damage on multiple occasions so it's not like it hits impossibly hard by any means.

I like to mark jails when I'm in pugs since beats hoping they mark themselves; it will always be the 4th jail in the list that spawns. Do note there's a chance they wrap around (e.g., enmity list looks like AB Susano YZ, the fourth is the B one, not Z) since they merely appear in alphabetical order. Edit: Holy shit I forgot Z was a letter.

Should tanks do as much damage as a DPS? No, but they should feel an increase in power instead of getting nerfed going into an expansion and subsequent patches due to the changes.

I don't even necessarily mind that we're losing damage (please send help, topping out mid-2ks suffering) but the shift meaning our right side is basically fucked as far as gear progression goes is concerning. Threat in dungeons is mostly how much I'm willing to spam threat things while raids is justShirkit (with some "at pull things are h i l a r i o u s" caveats); dungeon and on-pull threat will look to be a sad day for quite some time at this point. Which is some extra irony in Paladin getting non-Flash for AoE situations but it not building extra Threat means more Flash before they TE. Realistically, both are fine and manageable but by and large the "holding of threat" part of gameplay is pretty non-interactive and the "basically everything else" is where they tucked away our gameplay decisions.

I just wish they'd make tanks scale off VIT and tweak the AP ratio if that's their concern (and, honestly, gaining i320 right side main stat wouldn't somehow skyrocket our damage anyway even at 1.0 AP per). Is this so weakness doesn't destroy us? Have it be an output modifier and not a main stat one then. I'm annoyed we got our own special stat and all signs point to "I kind of just wish it was Parry?" to be the case; we're basically joining the DHit/CHit grouping for stat priority at this point.

When ERP goes wrong?

So apparently a bit headache in a big pop server like Balmung is the queue system right now. Apparently people are using tricks to stay online even when afk for hours.

Are they doing this for selfish convenience or are they seriously doing it for the ERP of their player? "People need to know my character is sleeping in game!"

Kind of wish Dark Knight had Cecil's Darkness attack that just does massive AOE damage at the cost of a full blood bar and comboed with Dark Arts.

The same reason like 90% of GAF did it on HW launch.

Fuck risking not being able to log back in.

Man, the
65 quest battle basically has Dark Wave. He also DRK LB3s (to spawn adds) and DPS LB2s so maybe he's just OP but he basically Dark Waves! I'd take a Blood spender of Dark Passenger that was literally that move right there

They made 60-70 this weird process of stupid decisions.

At 70 is pretty good, though. But until 70 it's a lot of "The fuck did you do."

Cleared Castrum Abania, got to lvl70, all aether currents unlocked, finished the lvl70 DRG job quest, made it to the Loches. Good progress today!

<3 The Lady in Red <3

But you know, stuff like this is dumb as fuck:

JUST MERGE THE GODDAMN INSTANCES WHEN THERE ARE UNDER 500 PEOPLE TOTAL OR SOMETHING WTF.

It's so silly, even this weekend, we rarely get 200 between all 3 instances. Do they expect another massive player influx? Why? Where?

I've tried camping out for the Foxy Lady but most of the time completing both Ginko and Kinko fates just results in them popping back up again. :' (

I've had the outfoxed fate pop once but alas after that date completed still no foxy lady. Having 3 instances isn't helping either with this.

So speaking of that Susano ex stuff, I'm also going to be trying it tonight on tank and appreciate the stuff above.

Only thing I'm curious about, so the first phase tank buster (I think it's called assail?) really has no telegraph? Does he usually do it at a set interval or just randomly? At least I know it doesn't hit as hard as stormsplitter.

I like having multiple instances because it means we can kill 3 S ranks back to back just like we did ~2 hours ago. Got to take advantage of it while it lasts!

(it's extra annoyin when you play with other people though)

They're doing this because Balmung queues can take up hours and they want to be able to play the next day, RP or not

I've joined a specific link shell for the purposes of seeing this FATE and I still have yet to see it. Outfoxed dies in like seconds now and with this instancing it's such a hassle to get there in time anyway. They really need to get rid of the instancing now as it's pretty annoying.

Stormblood has two rare Fates now with unique rewards - Ixion and Foxy Lady. One gives an Ixion mount and the other give fox ears and other cosmetic shit.
