I know we had that Famitsu thread about this the other day. Figured this was confirmation. Sorry if we already got official confirmation.

How do you play it?

4 player Multiplayer Mode requires 2 Switch devices. One is docked and the three ghosts use the TV screen, the other is handheld and Pac-Man has his own screen and can watch the ghosts, very much like how it worked on Gamecube.

Couldnt they just have included Battle Royale instead?

Yeah good luck with that.

The Motorcycle That Wouldn't Slow Down
It's very strange that it's out in a month and I can't find this on any big retailer site

Do you also need a third controller for the ghost Switch, or do they do something funky with have the second controller for the Pac-Man player actually controlling the third ghost? On paper that should be achievable.

Figured that would be the case. Unfortunately getting a friend to buy both a Switch and a copy of the game is going to be nigh impossible.

Stinks that we never got this on the Wii U.

Good point, hadn't thought of this, some scenarios:

1) You need Two Switches and an additional controller - First switch is docked, 2 Joycons and one extra joycon/Pro Controller. Second Switch in handheld mode, both joycons attached.

2) You need Two switches - First Switch is docked, second switch is in tabletop mode. All players use one Joycon.

Wonder how many people will be able to play this if it requires two copies of the game. I'm glad it's being preserved for a new gen, but seems like it'll be some work to play with others.

The inclusion of PAC-MAN VS. has made this a must-buy for me, but I'm curious as to whether or not you'll need 2 copies of the game in addition to a second Switch. Since Download Play isn't a thing on Switch as far as we know, I suppose it would have to require a second copy, unless they release a free app for it on the eShop, like with Mario Party: Star Rush on 3DS.

It's crazy that this game never made it to Wii U, because it would have been a perfect fit for that system. Still nice to see that asymmetrical second-screen gameplay can live on on Switch, too, though, even if it requires more hardware.

When I first read this I thought 'great! Now I need to buy it'.

Then I realized it requires two switches and most likely two copies of the game.

Any online play option for this? This game was so awesome on gcn, but like 1% of switch owners are going to experience it if it really requires two switches and games

As expected, they couldn't even be bothered to add online play for this. At least it's possible to play it single player this time.

I was thinking it'd play more like Tag than Hide & Seek w/ just one Switch. Guess I was wrong.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the original Pac-Man, but Pac-Man Vs. was to create a pretty accurate multiplayer version of that. As Pac-Man, you always see the entire game area on screen - in both Vs. and the original game. Thus you can run away from ghosts, or after eating the yellow dots, go after the ghosts.

The ghosts are different. In the traditional Pac-Man, they don't always go after Pac-Man when he's not invincible, and they don't always flee when he is. To reflect that, and to also make the game more fair, the ghosts in Pac-Man Vs. don't see the entire game area and don't know whether Pac-Man is invincible. As a result, the behaviour of the ghosts in Pac-Man Vs. is not too different from the original.

If the ghosts were to see everything that the Pac-Man player does, then the ghosts would always be winning relatively quickly.

I'm just hoping it'll allow download play for the second switch since if it does it'll be a lot easier to set this up (most of my friends have switches or plan to get them)

Requiring two Switches isn't that bad. Think about it this way, you need two of ANY handheld to play a multiplayer game on handhelds. You need 4 3DS to play 4 player Mario Kart 7. Yes, I know Switch is a hybrid console so local multiplayer on one console even in tabletop mode is expected but the beauty of Switch and its hybrid mode is that it's open to all sorts of games. For example VOEZ is handheld only because of its nature.

It would be nice if it doesn't need two copies of the game though but we will see. Not sure if download play is a thing on Switch. Also, hopefully you don't require a TV too so even though it's not optimal it would be nice if you can have the four player split screen on one Switch screen and the Pac Man on the other.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

Why would you? Single player I mean.

Shiggy,

Pretty sure there is a visual and/or audio cue to the tv ghosts players when pac man gets a power up.

You will need two copies because Switch doesn't have download play.

Better than not being able to play it at all since I'll likely never find anyone else nearby who also owns Namco Museum.

Would I've loved a Wii U Eshop version.

Hopefully when the Switch reaches a certain level of popularity games will include modes that could take advantage of a Switch on TV and another Switch on the room.

Asymmetric bonus modes like those found in the Wii U version of Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed.

Single console mode without pac man playing ability. Dual console/single joycon mode for pac-man gameplay.

Can't believe this game remained as obscure as it is. Would love to play it on a proper console. Your move Namco.

Gotta save something for Namco Museum Vol. 2

(one can hope)

Despite not enjoying its share of fame, it's one of the most Switch-friendly games out there waiting to be ported.

After Power Stone 1 & 2, of course.

And yeah, there's too many good omissions (as usual) to not favour a Namco Museum vol 2 for Switch.
