Battlefield 1 |OT2| "All Quiet on the GAF Front"

This game is being straight up republican on me, my extremely bad performance sees me put on the losing side all the time "because of my skill". 42% win rate right now, starting with a 3 in a week I predict.

So annoying you still cant change stuff of vehicles in the main menu and also you cant in a empty server also anymore because it will say you are rank 1 with all vehicles so i cant see my skins and loadouts. Only way to change stuff is when a real match is going on.

agreed.

Man, repairing AA guns with the repair tool takes FOREVER. It seriously takes about 10-15 seconds to repair one. The last thing you want to do in a Battlefield game is to stand still for this long.

Meanwhile, the person in the vehicle just needs to hold down the repair button for 5 seconds and they are magically good to go.

I can't believe they put the vehicle auto repair in. One of the most fun things in BF3/4 was following a tank and fixing it.

Fixing stationary weapons is to ask for a headshot. Considering how fast these things can be destroyed and how vulnerable you are when repairing them, fixing should be way quicker.

You can still crouch and lay prone to repair them. It's what I do at A flag in St Quentin Scar when repairing it. Bombers are always flying over so that's what ya got to watch for.

I just saw that the new DLC is supposed to come out in September. Why in the world are they making us wait for 6 months for the next DLC? What a ridiculous time frame.

Yeah I miss a dedicated engineer class. At least Support has a repair tool, but then again no one else really uses it.

It's a crazy time period but so long as the content is good I don't mind. They're also releasing two extra maps per DLC pack at no extra cost which is nice.

Past Battlefield games had season passes that would include around one year of new content. This was around the time that EA wanted to turn Battlefield into a yearly franchise.

However, I think that after the Hardline fiasco they went back to giving Battlefield games a longer lifecycle, so they are stretching the season pass to last two years instead of one. However, they are still only making one year's worth of content, spread across those two years.

No, they are Premium maps, not free.

So yeah this happened. Look at the Behemoth health. Was really gone after that. Round just started.

To be fair, they're adding two maps to They Shall Not Pass and In the Name of the Tsar will have 6 maps as well. Maybe the other two expansions will get a similar treatment.

It is ridiculous. I like that they seem to be upping the map count to 6 on the DLCs to make up for it. And they're giving a preview of it in August with the first map. I imagine I'll still put more time in Battlefield than Battlefront this fall though.

Just started playing the game on Xbone. I ordered it on the fourth because I couldn't pass up Best Buy's deal for an Early Enlister deluxe edition for $23. Unfortunately my power supply on my Xbone went belly up. An acquaintance who barely uses their console volunteered to let me use their power supply while I wait for MS to receive mine and send me a new one, so I installed it and booted it up a moment ago.

I played 2.5 games of Conquest and really enjoy it so far. It's a bit of a rocky start for me though; 4 kills the first game I played (a match that was almost over), 4 kills the second match, and then the last one was 7 kills and 7 deaths. That last match was on Amiens and I really liked the map. I was on the German team and felt like I got to know the map fairly well in that ~30 minutes (though I don't think I crossed the tracks over to the 'E' and 'F' side of the board a single time; my team did a great job of holding A,B,C,&D for a while at the beginning). It looked and played great too. Can't wait to put some more time into it.

How many points are you getting though? Unless it's Team Deathmatch, points tend to be a better indicator of how well you're doing with the game. I have a friend who constantly struggles to get any kills but consistently places in the middle of the team.

Not sure, I just updated the Battlefield companion app for iOS after my last post because I wanted to look at in-depth info from my matches only to not see any options to view recent matches. It does say that my overall score/min so far between those 2.5 games is 490 and my kills/minute are 0.26. I was middle of the leaderboard in that last match.

EDIT: Did some quick poking around and saw a post on the BF forums that there are no batreps in the app or online for recent BF1 matches. Lame...
I found out about Battlefield Tracker but my matches aren't showing up yet to know specifically what my score/min was in each one.

Have you played other Battlefield games? I wouldn't worry about your stats early on at all. It's going to take a while to get used to the game mechanics and maps.

If you give ammo to teammates when you're support, heal and revive teammates when you're medic, blow up tanks with dynamite or rockets as assault, and spot enemies with RB whenever you can you'll be more useful than 50% of the players that play regardless of how many kills you get lol.

I'm not super-worried about stats this early. Just was surprised how rocky my start was. But I have played other BF games and I'm not really good at them or anything like that. I guess the points are what I should be focused on more than kills if I'm gonna be playing Conquest. I usually only play that and sometimes Rush in older games, but that Pidgeon gametype sounds like something I might try soon.

Is there another GAF Platoon on Xbone besides the "NEOGAF" platoon that only has four members?

Also, what's the longest any of you have gone with the default weapons? I just hit Lvl 11, and have obtained Support Rank 2, but the only thing I've bothered to buy so far was the Impact Grenade and Air Mortar (unless that one was already unlocked, been using it a ton and cursing at its ineffectiveness only to just find out an hour or so ago that you can rapid-fire it). I've only got 1050 war bonds and there are four classes, so that is like what, one new primary for each class and then a couple new gadgets or grenades? I'm definitely suffering from analysis paralysis with this upgrade system.

You're going to find that guns being locked behind class levels will limit the amount of warbonds you spend anyway. Lack of warbonds is pretty much a non existent problem. There are only a few guns per class that are really worth using consistently anyway. At your rank for Support I'd suggest giving the Benet-Mercie Telescopic a try, it doesn't kill all that quickly but it has pretty manageable recoil and with a bipod up it's a headshot machine. As long as you're not always engaging in close quarters it's fun to use.

That's probably the only platoon, and I can add you if you request it. I don't play as much BF1 anymore, but would be happy to add people.

The reason there are only 4 on there is because platoons were added several months after launch when a lot of people here have probably moved on.

Did anybody else notice unusual performance changes with the Windows 10 Creators Update? I ask as Battlefield 1 for me has had noticeable, if irregular, microstuttering since the update. It can usually be pinpointed to sequences where a large, immediate effect is used. So for example a tank might roll in and fire a shot, hitting a wall in front of me. The game will stutter for a second as if the CPU/GPU are calculating the effect before returning to normal. It does not happen every time, and seems most prone and obvious when it's the first "instance" of something like this in a match.

It's not game breaking, but I don't recall having this issue pre-creators update at all. It's hard to pinpoint in other games, but it does seem like textbook CPU/GPU stalling as rendering/calculating catches up with the play. Similar to open world stutter so prone in other games, just far less frequent.

I've tried numerous tweaks and tips including obliterating all the goofy Win10 CU stuff. No dice.

I did give it a shot and I'm pretty terrible with the Benét-Mercié Telescopic. It's accuracy and control are supposed to be better than the default Lewis Gun but it feels like my shots are all over the place, even when doing short light bursts. I can't kill anyone hip-firing it like I can with the Lewis Gun. I may try some more though. I've since risen to Support Rank 3 and have almost 1500 War Bonds, so everything but the Huot Automatic and Chauchat are available to me right now (gonna take forever to get that Huot with the way I'm playing).

EDIT: Well I feel dumb. I just noticed in the menu that the B-M Telescopic has different fire modes. I'll try it out some more before maybe switching to the Optical version of the gun, or maybe a Madsen, MG15, or BAR.

I don't exactly need to join a platoon but I figured that I'd join a GAF one if one existed. I was just surprised that there were only four people, coming from HaloGAF's Spartan Company which is always full. I guess that platoons only being added recently, combined with people leaving the game to go back to BF4, and added onto that this is a multiplatform game unlike Halo so the player pool is lower anyway, all adds up to a small GAF platoon.
I sent a request to join a moment ago though.

Thinking of picking this up, got a couple of quick questions and this seems a good place to ask;

1.) How is the performance on PS4 Pro?

2.) How is the campaign? For reference, I generally enjoy military FPS campaigns, even Battlefield ones, and enjoyed what I played of the campaign missions from the beta.

3.) How is the online player base? At this point, am I going to be at a disadvantage or struggle to find games by not owning the season pass or DLC expansions?

Try the Benet-Mercie Telescopic set to the lowest zoom level, I find the higher the zoom with that gun the more the recoil gets magnified visually which for whatever reason hurts my aim. That might be happening with you too.

Use whatever you're comfortable with though. The only gun on Support that is unquestionably better than the others is the BAR but with the 20 round mag it has the potential to not be beginner friendly. The BAR Storm is the BAR most people use.

Also don't worry about the Huot. It's trash lol.

1.) There's a Digital Foundry Video for the PS4 Pro performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu705pp0mv0
There are some minor fps drops, but they aren't very noticeable. Most of the time it is pretty stable at 60 fps.

2.) Didn't play the campaign.

3.) Really, really good. PS4 is the system where most people play BF1. There are always about 50000 - 60000 people playing. Peak is always between 80000 and 90000. Pretty sure this will increase once "In The Name Of The Tsar" is released.
Don't worry about the season pass. I just bought the game about 4 weeks ago. You will find many many games without the season pass. I bought the ultimate edition because it was on sale... I don't regret it, because I like the new maps a lot, but it's not essential.

Nice one thank you.

Straight after posting that I noticed it was only £21 on Amazon. Became a bit of a no brainer at that price.

The campaign's story and premise are great ideas, but the writing is so bad and the gameplay has almost no relation to the multiplayer game (almost nothing plays the same, including what is assigned to basic buttons) that it is very divisive.

1. Very good, even I think PS4 Pro players have a disadvantage to ps4 players in terms of fog on the battlefield, I have a feeling that the fog is too thick.

2. Its really cool, try it!

3. Better then ever.

Fog is thicker on the Pro? Huh, I hadn't noticed.

Have they acknowledged/fixed the sequential operations bug yet? The one where if you press options, it brings up the previous end of round screen and your only option is to quit? It's such a frustrating issue. I love that they finally put operations into a playlist, but I end up having to quit out and rejoin at the end of each op anyways because of this.
