Waypoint Thread: Vice City Stories

Listening to their E3 podcasts made me realize that Tim Barnes is truly the unsung hero of that show. I don't know if my ears could handle another one of Patrick's pitchy shrieks. Kudos to Tim for saving the listener from Austin and Danielle's rampant shouting.

I'm also team Danika over Danielle. She brings a better vibe to the podcast.

What a shitty thing to post. Why would it be either-or anyway?

I can only speak for myself, but I stopped listening to Idle Thumbs after Danielle left and she's a big reason I listen to the Waypoint podcast, so yeah.

It's not as controversial an opinion as you are making it out to be; listeners were presented with a series of episodes that had Danika in, and Danielle out. I happened to like that dynamic better. Even with four people in the podcast, that's pushing the limit as to what a podcast conversation can sound like without people talking over each other.

Danika and Danielle both my faves. And Rob and Patrick and Austin, love them all. Man, from some slightly boring origins this podcast has gotten so good recently. I don't know if it's Rob exactly but it seems like around the time he came on everyone settled into a more unhinged, fun group dynamic. Love it.

My dude, presenting two irl women in the kind of shitty "Team [blank]" dichotomy usually reserved for fictional love interests aint as benign as youre making it out to be either

This.

I would've thought this thread would've been better than that shit, but here we are

Thirding that pitting two folks who seem to be friendly and professional towards each other and, honestly, both appearing on the podcast whenever time seems to allow for either of them, against each other is super gross and insensitive and proved out by the "team waifu" bullshit appearing alongside the argument.

Just respect people and enjoy what differences they bring to the table.

Friends. At the table.

Boat party.

Rob definitely elevated the cast.

I hope my post didn't come off as pitting them against each other, I just wanted to voice my appreciation for Danielle. They're both awesome people, as are the rest of the Waypoint crew.

Nah, I think we're all talking about the same person's "what person should be PRIORITY on a podcast, graded by gender AND AND B-B-BUT ALSO personality" approach to enjoying lovely, inclusive content. You good.

Also: yeah, I admit that I personally care because Waypoint's open approach to things like casual sexuality and dumb jokes is a joy in my life and that not really understanding wanting to cut someone out of it in favor of someone else when they all want to be there and keep genuinely expressing things in public is a large factor.

I agree wholeheartedly. The way the group approaches topics, and the general positivity they tend to exude is a big reason why I love Waypoint, and I think it sucks that the "Danielle vs Danika" topic tends to pop up in this thread. They're both big parts of why I enjoy the site, and it's just shitty to see people pit them against each other.

I can see where you're coming from, and upon reflection I can recognize that the nomenclature I used ('Team [blank]') to express my opinion was coded in a way that could be interpreted as offensive in this context. This was not my intention. While I was using terms that can be associated with all sorts of fan-culture (not just fictional love interests) I see that my opinion was misconstrued by some because of the language I used to express it.

I do think you should've done me the justice in quoting my full statement before you began to chastise me, however. I've included it below for context:

It's not as controversial an opinion as you are making it out to be; listeners were presented with a series of episodes that had Danika in, and Danielle out. I happened to like that dynamic better. Even with four people in the podcast, that's pushing the limit as to what a podcast conversation can sound like without people talking over each other.

I am just not a fan of Danielle on the Waypoint podcast. I find it annoying as a listener how she is frequently derailing the conversation (as others have also pointed out.) Danika is not often featured on many of the episodes, but had a big presence during E3. I liked her inclusion in the conversations, and what she brought to the discussion. I am not trying to perpetuate a perspective that there is an unspoken "quota" or ratio of women that can appear on the show, or something along those lines.

Alright, Ilistened to Episode 61 of the Woopcast, and during a discussion of, I think, Expeditions: Viking, Rob Zacny references Thea: The Awakening. It was a quick, passing mention, but it counts nonetheless.

Thea: The Awakening is an obscure 4X-hybrid game that I love, and never once in my life thought I'd hear referenced aloud. Thank you, Rob, for making this unknown dream a reality.

This recent PUBG talk was kind of cute because a lot of what they were describing is why so many people love online multiplayer games so much, especially the part about roles and directions in your team. You could have edited in Counter-Strike or Dota and it would've fit. Glad they finally found a game that works for them, especially Patrick, since he mentioned he never really had one of those.

I really hope the crew will be able to do non-game related side stuff. Like I would love to listen to Austin and Danika discuss anime. Or get Patrick to watch anime and have him report afterwards

Where was this talk? Really enjoying their PUBG streams

Danielle's like... appreciative listening? is that a phrase? is so silly sometimes. Austin's running through dry nitty-gritty mechanical details on FFXII remaster and she's dropping just the most breathless "ohh"s "ahh"s and "yeah"s at "there's a fast-forward".

Austin: "And I downloded FF Tactics to my phone but didn't play it yet." Danielle: *purr of barely-contained pleasure*.

It probably feels great to tell Danielle a story. I bet she'd make the best hypeman since Lil Jon.

Loved her many "Oh Boy" during permadeath

As if anyone ever doubted it, but Patrick's article about breaking the story about Cory Barlog from Sony Santa Monica shows that he is a real mensch.

I wish they could do a Dunkey & Austin/Patrick podcast. Because that video kind of sucks and I feel like they would be good at arguing with him. Not sure if he does stuff like that, though.

WTF I spend 2 minutes in Splatoon 2 demo and find out Austin's already a meme

Decided to jump back into the podcast and I'm bummed Rob Zachny joined. No offense to him, I respect his opinions but I cannot stand his voice. He always sounds out of breath and it makes me feel the same. I remember skimming through GWJ podcast whenever he was on and now I'm doing the same thing whenever he talks here. Ah well.

I have no idea what you're on, I love The Zac! He has the best podcasting voice!
