Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age |OT| You Had One Job!

Any drawbacks to the Black Mage/Red Mage combo on Ashe?

Upside is Black Mage/Red Mage can use the most powerful +fire staff with the Red Mage's most powerful fire attack.

Downside is you only get 2 swiftness licenses instead of 3 that you could get with other pairings (such as Black Mage/Monk or Red Mage/Archer).

Either way they are both superstrong pairings that will be useful through all story and post story content.

I keep forgetting just how much stuff is in this game. Just found a sidequest that I never knew about - on the flight from Rabanastre to Bhujerba if you talk to the Chief Steward she asks you to give a letter to her 6 sisters on the other flights. Whoa.

How did you guys feel about the strategy guide? Still considering getting it for collecting purposes plus I love, love, love the CG work for this game and all the fantastic artwork.

Man I wish there was a gambit that stops my thief from trying to steal as soon as enemies don't have anything on them anymore.

How difficult is this game? Was thinking of getting it as it looks interesting but i've never played this final fantasy before (played a few others in the series though)

I'm sure there are a lot of these posts but how would this team be? Thinking about rolling with it and I already picked Monk for Vaan.

Ashe - Bushi/Knight
Vaan - Monk/Machinist
Penelo - Black Mage/Time Mage
Basch - Archer/Uhlan
Balthier - White Mage/Shikari
Fran - Red Mage/Breaker

I don't know if I'm big on Balthier being a mage but I guess it's no big deal. I think Fran also has innate steal so I might make her white mage/something. I just know I want Ashe to be Bushi and that's all I'm really set on at this point. lol

I sure wish the speed boost was a button you held down, instead of a toggle. I'd like to be able to hold it down when running in a straight line, and quickly release it when I get near a treasure or something.

Any tips for gambit setups for debuffs? Looking to set my time mage up but I'm not really sure how to do it without draining MP fast by casting slow on everything.

Yeah, same here. I set Vaan to steal from the nearest foe, on highest priority. "Cool, now I don't have to do it manually anymore!" Until I saw Vaan try to steal multiple times from the same Gigantoad.

Now I just open fights with a manual steal order, after which he can fall back on his regular combat gambits.

For now I'm going with "Foe HP > 70% = steal" for Balthier, which works alright if there's only one enemy around. As soon as there's more he'll steal like a doofus until the rest of the party is finished with the prioritized enemy.

Yeah, I was having the same issue with stealing gambits. I had the most success with stealing from the furthest target when there's a lot of enemies around.

That said, I also ended up just doing it manually.

Ended up restarting to plan out my jobs a bit.

Vaan - Shikari/Red Battlemage or Foebreaker?
Balthier - Machinist/Foebreaker or Time Battlemage?
Fran - Uhlan/Time Battlemage or Archer?
Basch - Bushi/Knight
Ashe - Monk/Black Mage or Red Battlemage (how does a Monk/Red Battlemage work out? I see a lot of posters going with Black Mage instead, are there any drawbacks to pairing Monk with Red BM? It seems like this would allow for more variety and equipment options)
Penelo - White Mage/Archer or Foe Breaker?

Any input? I bolded the jobs I feel most confident in for that character and plan on mostly playing Vaan, Basch, and Ashe.

that was the base vanilla game when it launched and was about the zodiac spear, dont worry about that in this game.

Yes it's this game, but wow did you let a fringe complaint affect your decision back then.

In the original version of the game, there was an Easter egg high level weapon (Zodiac Spear) that you could only find if you didn't pick up certain treasure chests. Entitled gamers thought they should have everything on every play through, and so complained.

It doesn't work like that in this version.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Reaching the end of my second day of play, at 31 hours playtime.

Not healthy, I guess? But loving it

Made my balthier into a machinist. Only fits since he starts out with a gun and is a pirate. Fran is an archer, but won't use her when I get the full party. I made my vaan into a samurai. When do you get to pick another job? Can you change them on the fly?

You get to pick a second job after finishing Raithwall's Tomb. Just like with your first job you have to commit to it.

You can (excluding some super late game state) always go back and do side quests later right?

There's no point of no return in XII. And from memory, there are no sidequests which get locked out due to progressing too far in the game*

*with the exception of the unmarked "parcel delivery" thing in the first 10 minutes in Rabanastre.

Edit: maybe the Viera finding love sidequests too?

i assumed it was about all chests, not one for a specific weapon
plus at that time i had a bunch of backlog so didnt want to spend the time / money to get it.
only game i have to finish before starting this up is Persona 5

- MCN, I'd say FOE, too, because MCN and TBM have Hastega overlap, ranged weapon overlap, and both would benefit more from Mystic Armor access than each other's.
- SHI is good with both. BSH/KNI is great.
- FOE is pretty complete by itself so it's good with almost any Job TBH.

- MNK with Mage is good if it's your healer/support DPS. As pure DPS, MNK would probably need Genji Glove for its Whale Whisker (even better combo rate than Masamune) though with Battle Lore 16 and Lordly Robes/Circlet, you're STR should be OK.

- WHM/ARC is OK. MAG is easy to get to 99 so ARC let's you use something like Magepower Shishak for extra bow damage and defense, and gives you ranged Swiftness 3 attack (e.g. use Fire Arrows on Oil-status enemies).
-- That said, there is one missed synergy which is ARC's Flame Bow which boosts fire spells, so BLM Fire spells but especially RDM Ardor miss that (though they can get that from a BLM staff or MCN measure, too).
-- Also, a bit of overlap: One of ARC's best advantages is Phoenix/Remedy/Potion Lores 3. ARC is basically the best 'Chemist' (ARC/BLM or ARC/TBM is a 'complete' Chemist, for example). So, a WHM doesn't really need your Phoenix, Remedy, or Potion Lores (which ARC excels at) but ARC doesn't provide Ether Lore 3 (which WHM would benefit from).

I just realized you can turn off the targeting lines! I love that, the lines always kind of annoyed me and without them I'm still able to play just fine

Is there a guide or resource that points out how to break the game? I've beaten ff12 about 4 times on the PS2, looking for a fun run.

How do you use the auto-save to your advantage if you don't mind sharing?

Auto-saves happen when you change from zone to zone. So instead of having to run from the save crystal to the guy you wanna steal from, or having to run back to the entrance each time, you can simply reload the game if you don't get the right item from the steal attempt, and you're right back at the start of the area the enemy is in. And going to the title screen and loading is surprisingly fast.

Tell me if I'm missing something--

Every time I want to buy armor, weapon, spell, etc. I never know if I have the license for it.

So it's constantly switching between vendor and license board, to see if I have the license. Or, looking at what licenses I have and trying to find a vendor that sells the things I can equip.

This is a total pain in the ass. It's not making me like this international version, it's making me hate it. It was easier when everyone had the same license board.

I wish that third music option DLC was available for everyone. Not sure how I feel about having an entire version of the score locked behind physical versions of the game. Oh well, reorchestrated is amazing. Maybe some day this DLC will show up for cheap.

I see nothing unhealthy about it. I would be around that playtime as well if I had any sick days left :D. Also gotta love the Lowtown theme, this games OST is just too good.

By the way, if anyone is really looking to break the game early, there's a FAQ here (http://www.neoseeker.com/final-fantasy-xii/faqs/168148-bazaar-ff12grandmaster.html) that covers all the bazaar goods and the earliest you can get them. Some of them are definitely hard to get, especially since I hate using Poach.

It's based on the original FF!2, but the bazaar goods are generally the same with a few exceptions (mostly the endgame weapons...same material needed but you receive a different item).

You can see if a character can equip a piece of equipment by looking at their portrait in the upper right corner of the buy menu. If their portrait is greyed out, they can't equip it (or at least don't have the license for it yet); if their portrait is lit up, they can.

Edit: And if you want to know if the license can be unlocked in the future for that character, you can look at the general equipment icons. Armor types use the same icons. So say there are two headpieces with the same icon and you can equip one of them, there's a good chance you will be able to equip the other one once you unlock the license.

Being able to reliably farm trial mode feels so wrong but oh so right. Been trying to get at least 2 quickenings per character before lhusu

I just got wrecked at
the part where the headhunters meet up with Balthier in the mind
over and over again. Totally have a lot of grinding and programming gambits to do.

I'm pretty sure it's on-the-disc DLC too. When I unlocked it it didn't download anything.

Here's a pic of it with my Day 1 purchase of Final Fantasy XII (PS2) back in 2006 too

Now you have me wanting to take a pic of MY old PS2 steelbook.

Still so classy.

Had no idea we could have two classes before getting in the thread lmao maybe I'm not deep enough.

Just got back from
the mines, rescued Basch and now we'll go rescue Penelo

Hey folks. I'm sure this has been asked 500 times, but what is the difference between Original, Reorchestrated, and OST music options?

Original is the music you heard when playing on PS2.

OST is the music you got in the soundtrack you could get with the PS2 version, which is a little bit higher quality than the original.

Reorchestrated is the soundtrack rerecorded for this version of the game.

I definitely recommend Reorchestrated.

Dumb question

Farming trials for LP, do I need to load my game and overwrite it after each trial run or can I just repeat trials and dump LP points after a grinding session?
