Has a Nintendo game's storyline ever made you feel anything?

In almost three decades of playing Nintendo games I can't think of a single game that moved me emotionally (unless you count Other M making me feel extreme rage ).

Maybe I'm an outlier, but from my experience Nintendo has never been about emotional investment beyond nostalgia.

I was laughing my ass off at Color Splash last year, such a funny game. And the scenario Variety is brilliant stuff. One of my favorite videogame comedies in awhile. Hat's off to Writer and director Taro Kudo, the guy's a madman and I'm very excited for his future.

Mother 3's ending reduced me to tears, and that was before my mother passed away, i feel like if i play the game a gain i won't be able to handle it.

Before they retroactively fucked it, the ending to Yoshi's island moved me immensely.

Ending to punch out wii got me teary eyed thanks to nostalgia.

I had feels when (BotW spoilers)
Zelda saves Link with her power. I cared about their relationship and this was a great conclusion to it.

The end of Skyward Sword when you learn something about a character and say goodbye.

Teared up.

The middle of Skyward Sword when you realize there are only three areas and an empty overworld and the worst companion ever and the worst items in a Zelda game and the most unresponsive controls and the most repetitive bosses.

I wept. Only Nintendo game that affected me like that, but I did tear up a bit from Brawl's tripping mechanic and Other M's characterization.

A lot of Nintendo games, generally Zelda ones, have made me tear up during heartwarming moments and the like. Sometimes its out of sadness like in Majora's Mask.

Mother though.

Mother/EB Beginnings made me smile and tear up a bit during the ending. Earthbound made me feel conflicted and weird during the final boss. But Mother 3 absolutely destroyed me at many points of the story, but particularly the ending. It gets genuinely devastating... I don't like to only point out the sad parts though, the game has a fantastic story about dealing with loss and depression, and has many scenes that are lovely and encouraging.

Other M made me want to post angry stuff on the internet also. Praise Sakamoto-san.

Xenoblade Chronicles really made me feel upset near the start and throughout. It's a great game. The music and characters really gripped me emotionally.

Edit: Oh, and I frequently get infuriated at Mario Kart 8 DX. Oooh boy.

For the game's own merits, Link's Awakening has a really unexpectedly touching ending.

For nostalgia, when I finished the GBA port of SMB3 in eighth grade. I'd gotten the game since preschool, it's one of the games I remember most fondly, and I'd been playing it on and off in those nine years. Finishing it was the end of a significant journey for me. I teared up.

I've experienced great moments of joy from Nintendo games, more so than any other publisher/developer, but the majority of their games are focused on gameplay and not narrative.

I actually got pretty invested in the story of the original Paper Mario when I was younger, although that was because I thought it was a serious attempt at fleshing out the world of Mario. This was of course before I understood the concept of what canon and non-canon meant.

It's actually kind of weird to think about now but this game and OoT are basically the reasons I like story heavy games and some cinematic elements, since all I had back then was just a N64 and not a Playstation.

I always got a bit emotional in the SNES game endings as a kid. Not cry or anything, but seeing the adventure back to the starting point or the world's character's coming back to normal, sometimes even waiving ar the screen. That gave me the feels. I think the Mario's and Zelda did that and maybe a few others.

This song also always gives me the feels Yoshi's Story Ending Theme

Yeah, I loved KI Uprising's! So much fun.

Fire Emblem Fate's story made me angry at Corrin's stupidity :p

Earthbound (the ending particulary) and Mario RPGs have some good moments too

TTYD's humor, also felt for the computer that liked Peach. Actually TTYD in general has stuck with me more than most games I've played. Several of the endings for Zelda games, namely Wind Waker. Pokemon Sun & Moon if that counts.

I dunno, they have their moments.

Earthbound and Mother 3 for sure. I would say I got at least a little emotional during the final fight of Super Metroid.

Actually the final boss in Kirby Planet Robobot got me feeling...something with all of the references that were strewn throughout the game coupled with that being maybe the most over the top boss fight in a Nintendo game. Definitely wasn't expecting that game to be as good as it was in general

majoras mask was incredibly moving in some parts.
when you start to get to know every single character in the game as you see them again & again in a groundhog day manner, you start to really feel for their insignificant lives in lieu with an impending celestial body about to end them in 3 days.

ocarina of time; the relationships link forms particularly with saria & zelda. the mood, the soundtrack, the bleakness of it all. it's all quite moving.
xenoblade chronicles and it's sweeping vistas. that scene at the beginning with fiora and shulk. the conflict between dunban & mumkar.
most of nintendo's single player titles have decent emotional investment in them; they're just not always told through traditional methods like cutscenes & in your face moments.
