End of an era! Sonic was the longest running individual licensed comic book series in North American history.

Basically the comics just kind of... stopped about 6 months ago.

This also unfortunately leaves multiple stories unfinished, including "Sonic Mega Drive: Overdrive", which was fantastic.

Sounds like Sega's looking for someone to pick it up. BOOM or IDW have a much larger focus on licensed comics, I could see them picking it up.

Eh, why bother? Unless you're going with a company capable of doing more and maybe allowing you to build up a universe with Sonic characters like IDW or BOOM.

Damn. Hadn't read it in about 14 years, but wow. It really did run for a long time. And Sonic's a huge part of my childhood, he got me into gaming and was one of my first comic books too.

God speed.

Holy shit, the banner on his Twitter page.

1500x500

Motherfucker put his name on that shit. Motherfucker is PROUD of that shit.

Ugh that guy. I'm not happy with him at all.

That looks hideous! We lost those characters for this?!

Yeah his stuff...

That's the second page of his comic, by the way (actually the first page, but in the print (yes there's a print version apparently) its the second. Either way)

Hopefully the licence goes to IDW.

If they can do for Sonic the same great work that they do for Transformers, it will be awesome.

Archie also just cancelled (or put on hiatus, who knows) the two good reboots they had going (Jughead and Josie), boo.

The TV show was pretty good though.

Although it's a pity it ended in the middle of a retro recap arc, the comic at least did see some sort of conclusion to their very long running Unleashed adaptation (which also contained several other game adaptations), so that's about as good an end as any.

Welp

I knew this day was coming, years ago even. I didn't think it would be this soon.

There were good and bad times.... a lot of bad, the reboot wasn't even the best, but the good times were great and sometimes eclipsed the games in quality. Sucks to see it go.

I hope they find a new publisher, my guess is IDW

Wait Jughead got iced? That sucks.

Their reboots have been awesome, but outside of Archie, their releases have been spotty as hell

The last issue have an sort of conclusion?

Shame to end at 290 issues when they were so close to 300.

Nope. They had THREE different arcs going (#290 of the main series, Part 3/4 of the Sonic Universe series, and Sonic Mega Drive was on Part 2/3) and none of them finished. Here's hoping whoever picks them up doesn't reset the numbers.

The new arcs looked interesting, but I think its just gonna be a new comic. I think they gain more with a " all new brand new sonic launch". Then issue number whatever of a series that had been declining ins ales for quite some time.

I dunno, they could continue it, I would be happy. I would like to see what the fuck was going on with shadow and eclipse, and knuckle's deal with his family being gone. But I don't think its happening. I also think sega might want all of them extra comic dudes gone either.

We Might get megadrive thing because it was successful, and the main book(s) will just be redone.

When Sega's actually strengthening ties with artists like Hesse, I'd be surprised if they're actually eager to cut them out of the picture.

Slightly different situations of course, but there's nothing that indicates that they had any issue with the creative team, just Archie (and given the way they're being treated of late, I'm sure they'd be happy to do some contract work for IDW or whomever).
