Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age |OT| You Had One Job!

So....the Loot tab is this just vendor junk or is there an upgrade/crafting system that I haven't stumbled upon yet?
Selling loot is a sort of crafting system... The items you unlock on the Bazaar have specific required materials, and if you sell those materials at the same time then you unlock the item on the bazaar. There are no recipes or anything though, nor any in-game indication that you have to save loot and sell the materials at the same time. They're essentially hidden unlocks but if you look at a Bazaar or Loot list you can sort of treat it like crafting.

Yeah, the game made a real vague passing mention of the bazaar but I had no clue how to interact with it at all. That makes some sense.

You could even get the opposite notion that you're just supposed to sell everything like junk because there's one or two NPCs that mention it's an important source and gil, and sort of give the impression you should be selling stuff to make money. One of the guys near Migelo's Sundries or something I think haha I forget, something about 'sell that junk if you want money.'

Which, mind you, quite a lot of it you can. It's still the main source of money and this is a game where money can often be hard to naturally come by... So, if you see anything over quantity 10 you should probably be selling it. But if you notice something you only get 1 or 3 of, especially after a few areas, could be good to hang onto it.

Man - so frustrated about this Seitengrat Bow. None of the posted methods have worked for me. I know about sunk cost but I'm having a hell of a time ignoring it.

It's the principle of the damn thing at this point.
The cure method is infallible, you are manipulating the RNG, there has to be something wrong you are doing. I got three in a row with no sweat and I'm one of those that shitted on those ''100% method'' videos that are pure RNG bullshit.

It's not infallible. The guy who posted the first video also posted this in the 2nd video: "This one takes a bit longer to set up (more cures cast) for most people. Some people start later on the RNG and can't use the first one."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAHrtUb_wY0

If some people can't use the first one (from the horse's mouth) it's not infallible, and it seems possible that some people couldn't use the second either. I can get numbers in the second video, but it doesn't spawn the chest for me, so my numbers must start even further on the RNG.

As I said in the previous post, I am 100% following every step

I brought Reks past the save crystal so Basch left. Then went back and saved. Got Vaan on the flight from Rabanastre to Nalbina. Parked him on the deck. Quit to the dashboard. Loaded up the Reks save and got the 3 numbers. Pressed start -> square to quit to the main menu. Loaded the auto save. Ran up and no chest, twice now.

For what it is worth I've also ran in and out of the deck over 300 times now trying to spawn it manually and no luck there either, so either I've misunderstood some prerequisite to getting the thing spawned in the first place, or something is buggy.

Still early in the game, but for some reason I can't kill the early marks, the wraith in the sewers and the first serpent hunt in Lhusu mines.

Both had zero HP and my party kept hitting them, but they just won't die.

I don't know if it's a glitch or am I missing something here :/

The Wraith is the same one where Vaan was killing rats at the beginning of the game, right? Definitely sounds like a bug of some kind to me.

Yeah, might be a bug? The wraith gave me a run for my money since I took him on pretty early with bad gear but I was still able to beat him. He definitely dies.

Just started, speed mode feels like a revelation. Going to be tough being stuck at normal speed in some other similar games ha.

I noticed the "health bar" can look like it's at zero for a long time before they actually fall. Could that be it?

Okay either certain aspects of this game are harder than the original or I'm rusty. Trickster just almost gave me a game over, I had to run away, that never ever happened to me in the original. Ever. I'm playing the game straight, so I had the standard equipment for that period, but I beat him easily enough with standard equipment in the first game.

He's now pissed me off. There will be payback for that. I must have went through like 15 phoenix downs with the asshole doing choco-comet over and over again so quickly I didn't have enough healers to compensate for the damage,

wow that seitengrat trick posted earlier worked. Farmed 2 bows for my 2 weakest characters. Seems anyone can use it which is crazy.

I love how the game doesn't keep you on a leash. I've been to Zertinan at level 30 and barely scraped a win against the Esper there. At level 35 I managed to beat Antlion (who isn't bad if you Warp those little fucks away ASAP, and when he enrages go for a long quickening chain), and then I went to Site 11 and grabbed a Dragon Whisker and stole a Demon Shield, but those enemies were too much.

Also managed to beat Zalera who was easier than the area hes in.

Fuck me for disabling Ninja Swords 2. I found both of them but can't do shit with it. Couldn't find Koga blade.

Found it! I skipped that entire section in the mines. Also got a Trippet on my first poach, tried it yesterday for like 30 minutes to no avail and this was a one shot.

A lot of marks get a massive defence boost when their hp is low, it can be difficult to finish them off

Got the Seitengrat... Figured I should grab at least one for fun.

What's the story with the invisible weapons? Were they left in on accident originally from dev testing? Is there some lore reason?

I don't think they were left in accidentally, but IIRC, you couldn't get them in the game before TZA. I think you had to cheat to give them to yourself in IZJS.

Man the Gilgamesh boss fight is so good. The music, the challenge, Gilgamesh himself. One of my favourite boss fights of the last several mainline games.

They're there on purpose. In Phon Coast, there's an area with 16 pots lined up, and in the Japanese version, the first character of each item in those pots give hints toward where the three pieces of invisible equipment are. In English, the references are sadly lost.

once you press L1 you don't go back.

but yes, nothing beats clownlore forcing girls to shower with him. and if they refuse, IF THEY DARE REFUSE the alpha elf ex-300 lbs champion deformed ears male that he is, they'll be treated like shit because how dare you, silly girl, refuse my beautiful elf-like face.
amusing part: how long until the nerd alpha himself will find out these editings? 1 week? 1 month? Never? Stay tuned.

Golmore jungle reminds me of classic Final Fantasy. They throw some enemies that hit like trucks leading to one direction, so naturally you are forced to go the other way. I kind of wandered through there before I was supposed to go and those mobs were a pain even though I was autocasting protect and cura like mad.

Anyway, finished Mount Bur-Omisace. Interesting stuff, although I think Al-Cid is a bit too much of a stereotype character.

My whole party is pretty much evenly leveled, as I've been switching them out every once in a while. I've pretty much got most characters so they either know some curative magic, black magic or both, except for Basch, who I have as just a hardcore physical character.

Are there any pictures or articles of the Japanese version's way of hinting towards the invisible items? Curious now.

According to the wikia, they said

GURANDE
TOUDAIKASOU
HIKUUTEI

Which is Great Crystal, Pharos - First Ascent and Skyferry. They are indeed the proper locations, but even then its still almost impossible to find without any directions. No one would get them without RNG manipulation so I guess its fine that they're hilariously OP.

Blind and Silence is your friend in this fight, the blind will prevent some of those choco-comet to miss you and the silence will prevent it from casting any spells, the hard part about this bastard is that he begins to immune physical damage for a certain amount of time, and immune most magic with only a random att spell effecting him and every time you hit him with the right spell it swaps to another one so you're pretty much gambling at that point.

What I did was get him low but not too low where he starts to immune physical damage and I unleashed all my quickenings on him and that manage to put his ass down, but yes he is definitely stronger in this version of the game than the previous version.

Quoting Red Scarlet's guide:

グラビデの魔片 (Gravity Mote)
ラウンドシールド (Round Shield)
ン・カイの砂 (Smelling Salts)
デスペルの魔片 (Dispel Mote)
とんがり帽子 (Pointy Hat)
ウォーワーカー (Soldier's Cap)
ダークの魔片 (Dark Mote)
いかずちの牙 (White Fang)
カロ型の帽子 (Calot Hat)
ソレイユの牙 (Red Fang)
ウォーハンマー (War Hammer)
ひょうけつの牙 (Blue Fang)
クロノスの涙 (Chronos Tear)
ウール (Braid Wool)
テレポストーン (Teleport Stone)
イクシロの実 (Eksir Berries)

...

Take the first letter/kana of each item and you will get the following:

グランデ
とウダいカソウ
ひクウテイ

That comes out to 'gurande', 'toudaikasou', and 'hikuutei'.

'Crystal Grande' is the name of the 'Great Crystal' area in the Japanese
version of the game. Toudai is 'lighthouse', kasou is 'lower strata'. That
is referring to the lower part of Ridorana. Hikuutei is 'airship'. You can
find the Gendarme at Crystal Grande, the Trango Tower at the lower stratum
of Ridorana, and the Seitengrat on the town-to-town airship. In case you
were wondering what was up with those pots, now you know! G.I. JOOOOOOOOE

Hmm. And there's no reference to them anywhere else?

I'd guess they just wanted to throw in super weapons without putting in much work, which is why they didn't go through the process of modelling them, but if they put that cool easter egg in, then they clearly put some thought into it.

It's important to note that the International Zodiac Job System version of the game was done primarily by Hiroyuki Ito and a handful of other people. They didn't have access to modelers or artists from what I understand. It seems like the invisible stuff was his fun way of introducing something new under those constraints.

It kind of looks like the games health bar moves down in percentages, as in the health bar moves every 5%. And for whatever reason the game ticks to the 0% appearance once the enemy drops below approximately 5% health.

This gives the appearance the enemy is dead, but it can still have a few swings of health left in it. This is far more noticeable with enemies that have a lot of health like bosses or hunts.

It's weird, but it appears to be what is happening.

This, and a lot of bosses and marks get a buff when they're near death that reduces damage done to them which prolongs the fights.

Vayne's address at Rabanastre is so amazing.A truly grey and interesting set up for a villain.

Its gonna be a joy to experience thus game's writing again.Such a shame that FF has regressed consistently since then.

Ardyn and Caius are basic anime drivel by comparison...What a shame.

So i've just started the game - quick question about LP.

Should I just spend my LP as soon as I can fill a tile in on the board or is there a tactic as such as to target specific licenses first

I usually go for as many Magick/Battle lores and HP Boosts as I can in the beginning. That and keeping up with whatever the best tier of armor/weapons you have at the moment.

Well you need to spend LP to unlock licenses on the board.

I was LP farming in Trial Mode so I quickly filled out every slot without a care in the world but if you can, focus on the stat raises if they're nearby. Having a healthy balance of armour/accessory/spell/weapon licenses always helps too depending on your jobs.

I've arrived on the Phon Coast and the game has definitely turned into a slog just as I remember it.

Strong beginning, poor middle part that is just 90% empty fields with a cutscenes thrown in every now and then.

I always try to love 12 but it doesn't do enough to hold my attention.

The period between Miriam and Archades is probably my favorite stretch of the game. It's light on story but there's a lot to do, including two optional side areas.

The areas tell a story of their own, in my opinion. Especially Nabudis.

I feel this with the lack of blatant story, but lord I love this stretch. It's a nice reprieve in terms of pacing, and the first part where it's really felt like a journey for the characters. The events around the Miriam section prior really help drive this as well.

Then again, I'm a sucker for all of these areas aesthetically. Phon Coast especially is lovely, and I really like the openness of these areas. Granted, I'm liberally using the 2x and 4x speeds (default FF12 always felt a bit slow).

Just got out of Giruvegan last night.
The crystal's interior might be one of the most beautiful areas in the game, I loved it and I didn't expect the crystal trope to appear in the game, much less to actually visit it. The dungeon was meh and too labyrinthic,
but it was nice to finally have story development and the Occuria reveal. Would have been better if we knew more backstory from Giruvegan's past, how the crystal came to be and the Occuria, since everything I knew when I got there was "Cid wants us there, this a city covered in mist from an old civilization" and that's it.

I was loving the game until the Tomb of Raithwall and the Leviathan, but it loses too much steam after that. I was going to put it into my Top 5 favorite FF titles, but I just don't know now. The fetch questing from one point to another without any story development outside Fran's past hurt the game a lot. And when you finally get to Archades, you spent too less time in it and there are no actual consequences on going there.

It's funny how many CG cutscenes this game has compared to 15 which had like... 2. More and more, 15 feels so lacking in grandeur.

I'm on my third play-through of FFXII and I'm still surprised that there are so many CG scenes.

I guess it's because I keep getting the game mixed up Vagrant Story, which has all of one CG scene (with practically zero plot significance).
