Hmm, this sounds off, maybe it's record for a "debut"? In any case, KARD debuted with Oh Nana, I don't care how much DSP wants to spin it.
Edit: Yep, went to redit and it's exactly that
Ah, okay then yeah that's all spin. You don't not-debut with 3 songs and international shows.

It's the same song uploaded to different channels why shouldn't they count together? (It's, in any case, a stupid metric to compare goups).

Because consistency - that's not the metric used when most people talk about views for K-Pop MVs (and what metrics should be used is another discussion). There are a number of songs split across multiple channels (official and unofficial) over the years, yet when it comes to talk about MVs breaking records or ranking views in a list, the primary YouTube account is used, e.g.

It's the reason why a lot of fandoms will ask that people repeatedly stream a MV on one specific channel over another (which then goes onto relate to music show points etc).
When you hear about an MV breaking 50 million or 100 million or whatever, again, it's the primary account being observed and not a combination. Otherwise groups like BTS would have been hitting milestones quicker (BTS used to work with 1theK (double uploads), now they don't).
A different ranking system that takes into account multiple accounts might be interesting, but what's the criteria? Are fan uploads taken? (e.g. there was a very popular fan upload of Boombayah that existed for the 1st week or so - now dropped off but still has 250k views - that gained a bunch of views because it was taken from the V Live broadcast before the official upload was made)

Trying to expand my music listening...I mostly listen to electronic music these days. Anyone recommend some essentials in terms of kpop to checkout? Preferably on spotify if possible.

Spotify has some great k-pop playlists! Use the browse feature.

Heads up though, unfortunately Apple Music has SO much more k-pop.

Dinosaur is... fine. Their MVs were always a little budget, but those CGs really showed that :/

I wonder if they'll release another single this year, it's the third since Last Goodbye in January, before Chanhyuk enlists.

Not to sound bitter or anything, but the world would be a better place if that viral video of TWICE singing Knock Knock acoustic ends up ruining their career.

Which one? I didn't find anything here :s

This just appeared on r/kpop, lucky you :D

and J.Seph continues to have a blast during Hola Hola, is contagious.

He's even singing some female lines!

That made me think: do you all remember other performances where an idol appeared to be having so much fun with themselves you couldn't help but emphatize?

Hyosung seems to be pursuing a more spiritual life by the various Catholic devotional things she posts on IG. If that's her background I guess it explains her often kind of Victorian-ish style and some accessory decisions and symbolism in MVs.

Just spent hours making a top 10 list of SNSD songs for /r/kpop:

1. Genie
2. The Great Escape
3. Run Devil Run
4. Baby Maybe
5. Into the New World
6. Express 999
7. Echo
8. Mr. Taxi (Steve Aoki Remix)
9. Born to Be a Lady
10. Let it Rain

That shit was fucking hard. My first attempt at a playlist had just under 100 songs. Currently I'm sitting at 60 songs, though my top 10 is finished. Need to fiddle with it and I'll have a top 50.

Yerin the genuine indeed.

As someone who kept up with her, she did seem to practice singing all day everyday and started learning guitar as well. She wanted to have a waaaaay more active career than JYP was giving her. She also didn't let professional inactivity prevent her from artistic activity, so, as she mentioned, she would write her own songs. And yes, she would hang out with fans and go places share her work like a small time musician would, and formed some buddy-like connections with some fans as small time musicians do.

Unfortunately, that way of life has dissonance with the big time idol market and all the insane possessive and entitled attitudes people get. Hopefully if things don't improve on the JYP contract, she'll eventually be able to get out and go indie. I think she would thrive as a Park Ji Yoon or Neon Bunny kind of artist.

Edit: Just have to add... You all know I love JYP, but in kpop it may be that no ball has ever been dropped as hard as Baek Yerin. She was a prodigy and they got her at age 11. She needed to learn properly still, yes, but she was already ahead of her own debut at 15. Just one year later she was doing covers better than the original artists. Now it was been 4 years since then with minimal opportunity. She is 20 years old, not some child. Her passion has been unrelenting. It is a crime against art to keep a truly gifted and passionate artist caged up in their young adulthood. People say IU got a raw deal but her young adult years have been far more richly rewarding in both professional activity and artistic networking with people all across the industry.

I assume they are referring to this. It's from February and hasn't dampened their career.

Twice having sub-par vocals?? I'm shocked.
I really don't think the majority cares about live vocals in their idol groups. If a group has standout vocals, it will be praised but otherwise the appeal of an idol group, especially one like Twice, is more than their actual singing so.

Sorry man, but that is a bad list.
Baby Maybe has no business being in a top 10 soshi list... not to mention being 4th. Also it doesn't include I got a boy... its automatically a fail list.

This would make for a far better top 10 soshi songs.

1. Genie
2. The Great Escape
3. Gee
4. I Got a Boy
5. Into the New World
6. Complete
7. Karma Butterfly
8. Hoot
9. Mr. Mr.
10. Indestructible

You managed to put Gee, IGAB, Complete, Karma Butterfly, Hoot and Mr. Mr in the top 10, and didn't even include RDR, and you have the audacity to criticize my list? That's cute.

edit: Thanks to Music Core I just found out some random nugus released a great song.

Well, outside of missing K-Pop GAF's official theme song, this is a solid list.

JYP and YG doesn't seems to be able to take care and nurture solo acts. SM can handle somehow but except BoA the others solos are coming from the groups.

Doing a SNSD top 10 is not easy... I really never think about one, but a top 20 I would manage, which includes most of the listed songs.

Speaking of which, Jiyeon's taken to wearing some extra-frilly underwear lately.

Isn't there another current/former K-pop idol who has a very similar preference for extra-frilly underwear? I can't for the life of me remember who it is though. Or maybe I'm just letting my imagination get the better of me.
