YouTube pet peeves

'Yo it's your boy Floss, back again with another video!' gets old quick

I love how The Verge transitioned away from their short fancy intro, which I didn't even mind, and now simply start talking about the subject immediately, which is what everyone actually wants

-The annoying inflection a lot of youtubers put in their voice like they are attempting to be a radio DJ or some shit. Just stop it.
English youtube "personalities" are the absolute worst for this. They talk like that and have this annoying sing song-style delivery.

those recommendations are supposed to be tailored by your search history

what have you been watching, Acorn
I know they are but I don't watch any of that shit, I dunno if hbomberguys takedowns of the alt losers is influencing it.

This thread's already covered the brunt of it for me, but as a good example I hope more content creators take notes from 3kliksphilip. Look at just about any of his videos and you'll see nothing but the leanest, informative, to the point approach about any of the topics he delves into.

I don't really see it as a bad thing. If your gonna put up a video that's more than 5 minutes about a certain subject I expect you to get to the point without any continuous hangups.

I disagree. Especially for long form content, listening to a barrage of dialogue with zero punctuation is an assault on the senses. It gives you no time to listen or think about what's being said.

ALL fucking thumbnails of some guy/gal making the stupidest REACTION face, sometimes with some white contouring.

Like, does it trigger something in the reptilian brain of teenagers, like, I MUST know what is so surprising?

30-45 second intros (maybe even a whole minute sometimes...) with some music and cut up clips spliced together of anime/games/whatever related to the YouTuber when in actuality I could care less about the intro and just want to watch the content of the video. It just wastes time.

This. Once upon a time I used to like the Nostalgia Critic for not doing this. Then he started.

These aren't TV programmes. I know what I clicked on, I know what I'm watching, I don't need some fucking overblown opening sequence telling me. This is especially true when Youtubers of questionable talent have these minute long opening sequences with theme song, logos, etc.

Probably. I usually get shitheads in my recommended vids after watching stuff like HBomb and Feminist Frequency.

"Hello you beautiful (enter word here)" is fucking obnoxious.

I'm not sure who started it, but it's almost like it's in the YouTube rulebook or something nowdays that you HAVE to call people beautiful and pander to your audience before you're allowed to continue.

Some random hentai fanart in the thumbnail.

Spoilers in the thumbnail for a game that came out the same day.

Careless spoilers in the thumbnail and title.

Game X - The Reckoner of Stuff: Episode 31 - Bongo Bettays Party + Daves Death Scene [Commentary]

Thumbnail of some boss reveal that is YOUR BROTHER.

Thanks, prick.

Spoilers in video titles and thumbnails drive me fucking nuts.

The random person cutting into a review. While sometimes funny more often than not I'm just like. . Who??? Why???

Another one is in-jokes with people they don't even collab on videos with.

Repeating stories over the course of years. Giant Bomb is a bit bad for this. It's just a quibble as a long time fan, I'm sure new people don't mind.

I'm the exact opposite. The more dead air I listen to the more it becomes awkward and makes me think you didn't do any research into what your trying to say. Now people that do write down and follow an order to what they want to say is a better option than cutting up your sentences.

Not being able to fully block channels so they don't pop up in your search results, or anywhere else for that matter.

I like watching Destiny streamers do 1v3 in Trials of Osiris.

YouTube seems to think that I want to see every single Destiny YouTube personality regurgitate the latest IGN First video news in a longer, wordier video complete with subscribe and like begging.

I know it's easy to not watch that garbage, but my suggested videos section is filled with it.

Bad presentation, like stupid voices or lame art. The topic could be something I'm interested in, but if its done badly I don't care. HERE'S 50 REASONS WHY I HATE POKEMON SUN.

I watch a bunch of PokeTubers but never go near that content you described. I mostly only watch TheKingNappy and ShadyPenguin but there's a ton of actually good Pokemon content on YouTube.

For me pet peeves have always been badly edited videos. I was a YouTuber (full time) for 5 years and I always focused on high quality edited content. I hate unedited content where the creator leaves and goes afk, for example, but doesn't edit it out because they've not even thought about editing it. A good example of good editing in gaming content that's Let's Play like is JackFrags, his Battlegrounds videos are fantastic while so many others I've watched are basic or poorly structured in comparison.

My YouTube pet peeve are all the ridiculous faces you see on almost every single YouTube channel on the trending page. All faces are shock, surprised or in wonder. It's pathetic.

No commentary playthroughs.

Like Matthewmatosis largely because he just gets right to it. It's an essay with video footage/evidence, that's perfect for me. Still enjoy a bit of comedy and flavour, like how Super Bunnyhop does it.

Commentary where they pretty much only talk about what's happening onscreen and nothing else. I want the commentary to be entertaining.

Thumbnails with those fucking big red arrows pointing to a random thing in said thumbnail. Oh and don't forget a circle for eye catching details!
So many of these clickbait videos plague YouTube.

Not what you asked about OP, but I just want to throw in a Pokemon related recommendation, Brandon plays Pokemon with Brandon Jones and Kyle Bosman
It's Brandon's first-ever Pokémon adventure and Kyle can't wait to document each little moment. Can this primitive 20-year-old game capture the imagination of a fully-formed adult who has ignored the franchise entirely until this moment?

1 minute long intro that's overly dramatic and loud in a video that's 2 or 3minutes long.
I did way too much research into analytical stats on viewer attention at the start of videos. People lose interest after 4seconds very rapidly. So graphic titles/animation should end really quickly as should vocal ones to get to the main content as quickly as possible. It's also a pet peeve of mine when an intro goes on for minutes.
