Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age |OT| You Had One Job!

Started playing, made Vaan an archer.

Got the licence to use bows, but the game won't let me equip the bow I bought. Says I don't have the right ammo? How do I get bow ammo?

The great cristal is a nightmare. The mobs just crucify you in place : they all have these fucking 11+ effects on you : sap, disease, stop, slow, stone, poison, blind...

Yeah fuck me. How do you fight disease ? I have 3 serum...

I seriously consider backtracking back to the orange cristal, say fuck it and going hunting, POWER level and go back level 80 or something is this fucking mess.

I'd almost suggest getting the ribbons out of Henne and Pharos before spending a ton of time in the optional great crystal areas. Or get used to wasting a lot of time esuna/cleansing people.

some jobs have remedy lore license that cures disease and the white magic spell cleanse is in a chest in the cerobi steppe.

Yeah Great Crystal sucks. I went there at level 50 or so, did grab some good loot but decided to boot it though I did reach the final save point. Decided to farm outside this fucking place.

Made Dhanusha and Mesa since. Have to say the 4x speed and auto load scumming really helps. Getting 2 moon rings at highwaste was easy this way for example, just auto load each time I fought the Ash Wyrm and didn't get shit.

How long did it take you? Btw if Penelo is in your group and you do the Dustia-trick, do they share xp?

Penelo can get the exp but anyone who joins will be at the same level as Vaan...

So it's just easier to get as high as you can with Vaan before others join.

I'm doing it for a friend really, he played FFXII before and didn't want to play it again until I said I would do this and copy a file.

I'm not doing a lv90 playthrough because I'm playing weak mode.

Omg Al-Cid limping away after getting attacked by a Jusge but taking the time to put his shades on first. What a champ.

I bought a Grimoire from bazaar goods. It's a "monograph" or something, implies it makes better loot drop. Is that a real thing? It was pretty expensive...
Yeah as was replied below you, though expensive they can improve the loot pretty well. I'd probably hold off on some of them for a while because money can be scarce in this game, but at the very least try get a couple a few of the ones for the most common monsters -- or whatever you are grinding. E.g. Undead, or Beasts one. You'll eventually want all of them though because there are genuinely items you can only get through them that are required to craft certain endgame equipment.

Yeah. Sucks they made the ninja swords so that we had to sacrifice one. The Kagenui sword is awesome though. 81 atk and a chance to slow the enemy. I just don't feel that there are enough water and earth weak enemies to warrant sacrificing 4 weapons to get both Iga and Koga blades. Just won t get the use out of the weapons.

I haven't done anything in the trials expect grind money in the first 10 floors. I've kept no items or equipment I've gained there as I don't want to take the challenge out of my game after waiting so long for it. Ribbons aren't that needed imo, I only ever used one in the section of the Henne Mines with the Hecteyes. That was really the only part of the game where status effects are an issue.
There's been quite a few times I've used Iga or Koga for the elements. TBH it's so marginal though that it's really a preference thing ... And if I was trying to be as objective as possible I'd probably give a slight edge to NS1 and then probably Iga, ignoring Koga.

But I have found some nice ways to get use out of both. I actually used Koga a surprising amount during the story. A lot of wolves are weak to earth, oddly enough. The imps in Sochen Cave Palace, too, IIRC. I actually used Koga more than Iga between Ozmone Planes and Giruvegan. Iga was really useful for the Bomb boss in Salikawood though, and maybe... something pretty strong in Zertinan or Cerobbi? (Forget at the moment but there were a few times where I used a SHI + Iga and a MCN + Water Shot and Berserked both characters and used them to absolutely destroy a boss or some high HP mobs).

It's pretty marginal though. Maybe a total of a few minutes of faster kills over the span of a few hours. The debuffs on the NS1 blades could be just as fast or useful (and earlier) in the story too.

I'm pretty sure I bought a huge stack of serum on one of the Aerodrome leisure flight shops when I was doing the sidequest with the sister airship stewards. I can't remember what route it was, but I have 80 of them and I haven't seen any other shops with serums yet (I just recently got Reddas in my party). I also picked up a some dispel motes on another airship route. I think they sell those fang items too.

On another note, I just wanted to warn others so they can avoid my stress and pain: keep backup saves on PS+ or USB. The game crashed on me, corrupted a save, and made it so none of my other save files could be recognized to load from. If I hadn't had a cloud save, I'd have had to beg for someone else's or start a new game.

Last night, the game got stuck on a black screen when zoning from one area to another (into Cerobi from Balfonheim). I exited the game. When I went to load, the game couldn't detect any existing saves. In data management I saw that a save file was corrupted. I could see the other savefiles too, but could not delete the corrupted one.

After downloading a cloud save, the game could again recognize that there were multiple saves. I was finally able to delete the bad file in data management and load from my most recent one. I would have been so mad if I had to go back to my most recent cloud save (before killing hell wyrm). I don't think I could face starting this game over.

Aren't save files on PS4 basically encrypted to your PSN ID? I think on OG PS4s that were hacked or something you could use anyone's files but Sony basically made an effort to make sure you can't easily use other people's save files.

That said, still sound advice. My XCOM save file corrupted on PS3 after the game (as it often did) froze while it was auto-saving and I had to hard reset my PS4. Cloud upload from the previous day still lost me 3-4 hours of evening's gameplay but saved me from losing a 30+ hour game playthrough.

That's entirely possible; I haven't made any attempts at using another user's save since I haven't had any issues until now. If that's the case, I dodged a worse bullet than I thought.

What's the earliest way/place to get Cat-ear Hood?

It shows up in the muthru bazaar clan shop pretty early if you are doing your hunts and ranking up, but I'm not sure if it's possible to get one before that.

Hunter bazaar, they cost 50,000 Gil. They don't have the same stats as in the original version. In this one. They transform LP gain into Gil. Character level x 5 Gil per LP. Doesn't insanely boost your speed anymore.

So that is the earliest after all. Thanks. Was wondering because I need to finish 3 more hunts to get to the rank where the clan provisioner sells them, but I don't have any hunts available at the moment.

Yep, I know.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I've played for 4 hours since buying the game today.

Even better than I remembered. I used to call this my favorite Final Fantasy, thinking maybe i was right.

Bonus question: what class should I make Penelo? Vaan is Archer

Panelo is a good white mage imo

Finally beat it. Early feelings are that it's my second favorite FF game ever pushing for first. Like I mentioned before, 7 is probably ahead of 12 out of sheer nostalgia. The battle system is definitely my favorite out of the FF games and it's not even close honestly. Probably has the best art direction. Had Mitsuno been able to stay on til the end it'd probably have my favorite story and characters too. Even then, what's there is very strong. It's just the story completely vanishes for chunks of the game. Remastered soundtrack is also god tier. Said before but I wish this team would be given another chance. Even with the flaws this game is something special.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I beat the game 2 days ago. The story and the characters are still meh. But I now appreciate this game much more thanks to fast forwarding. The job system really does wonders to FFXII (and of course, the fast forward option to remove the tedious grinding). I enjoyed my time fighting and hunting, this is probably the only FF where grinding is completely OK with me.

It's still not my favorite FF game but I like this game much more than FFXIII now and still enjoyed it.

Speaking of Bestiary, am I required to kill the super bosses and the rare monsters? Any good guides?

Yup you need to kill everything either in trial mode or the normal game. I just used a complete list and I looked them up one by one for their spawn criteria.

Holy shit, I don't remember treking across the desert to that damn temple was this long and excruciatingly boring. WTF my young self, how did you get past it the first time on PS2 version.

To Raithwall ? It's not that long. You'll die in the last two big dungeons those take forever if you think that's trek is long. And the trek to Archades :p

Wither and Expose completely break Yiazmat. I didn't even have to use a strategy at all, just showed up, set some gambits to heal stop and petrify, and turned it to 4x mode and went to sleep. Well not literally, but I could have. I guess its a testament to the power of my team that I was able to take him down in about 20 minutes but it felt kind of cheap lol.

He was hitting my group for less than 300 and I was doing 10k+. If not for instant KO attacks I wouldn't have died at all, so yeah, foebreaker broke the boss of all bosses. Maybe on trial mode I'll fight him legit.

Yeah, the trial mode version is a lot harder. It has a lot less HP but man did they ramp up it's damage.

With the quickenings, I haven't picked any yet but is the choice between whether you want what's directly behind the node? Does it interact with esper choices at all?

it might if the quickening and esper lead to the same nodes on different job boards. not 100% sure if that's actually happens though

I'm just going to save before i pick every quickening. I dont get why this is so needlessly convoluted at times. i shouldnt have to play trial and error with my choices.

I'm starting to think that two jobs is overpowered. My team seems to be able to steamroll everything in their path.

Also: Shut up Vaan, you add nothing to any conversation.

??? You don't have to. If you unlock a 50 LP quickening it'll unlock the 50 LP on the other board. You have 4 choice you gotta pick 3
