Wkd BO 07•21-23•17 - Slam Dunk' for Nolan, Apes escape, not rough Girl's Trip, Luc

A really good ~3 hour movie is my fucking jam, but those are rare.

You can still have an ambitious 90 minute movie that uses its runtime effectively and still feel like you went on some long journey. A poorly paced blockbuster epic hunk of trash is one of the worst outcomes for a movie like that.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
I heard a rumor they're going to run a credit check when you pre-order Thor tickets.

There were actually a couple blockbusters that I walked out of thinking they should've been longer. The Mummy spent way too much time DARK UNIVERSE building and not making the titular Mummy menacing. Another 5 minutes of her doing crazy stuff might've made me like it a wee bit more

The worst thing I've seen in the past few years on social media is obsession with movie run times. Odd as fuck.

Get them Swiss!

It bothers me, too. And unless someone wants to point me to something that illustrates a correlation between runtime and quality, it will continue to annoy me.

Watching The Mummy is already like being put on death row.

Any longer is just torture before sweet release.

I peeked at the thread and was immediately greeted by this

I now hate all of you for the next 100 minutes.

First tragedy, then farce.
I like to think in some alternate universe instead of betting on sports results and politics Vegas bets on BO performances for blockbusters

And alternate universe bronson is banned from every casino for trying to rig the game

There was a website about 15 years ago that had a game where you bought and sold shares in movies and stars in a pseudo prediction market.

I remember going hard on oceans 11 and hitting big at the time.

Well, to get my mind off the cluster that is the Thor thread, what are the projections for Atmoic Blonde, and does Gaf expect it to meet them?

I saw someone throw out a number close to $20 for the OW, which seems low as hell, but I also have no real gauge for where it's supposed to end up, either.

Marketing has been cool (That Kanye/Depeche Mode mashup worked like gangbusters on me) but I don't know if it's really hitting people hard

Seems low to me, too. But I was just in LA where there is a billboard on on every street corner. Not to mention every other ad on TV is for it. So my perception may be faulty.

That was ME.

Remember this when I am right.

How does Valerian get that budget though?
I imagine all big box office flops are paid out of pocket and raised by friends of the producers like on Entourage. Lol

I can't believe when they pitched Valerien to studios, they specify this insane budget and expected it back WW and then some. I just can't.

The question is: if Ep. IX does move, does WB run away from it or stay strong?

...They would totally run, right?

Of course but whats with the idea that every Star Wars movie should move to December? People act like SW wouldn't crush the buildings regardless of when it releases.

I just like it in December :)
Though it's still hard for me to picture Avengers 4 and Star Wars in the same month.

• Wonder Woman 2 (WB) - 12/13
• Masters of the Universe (2019) (Sony) - 12/18

That seems like another Sony recipe for success

I don't know about Rogue One, but I believe both 7 and 8 were delayed from their original May dates. Han Solo spin-off, despite the troublesome situation they found themselves in, is sticking to May date for now.
