Do you earn income on the side? If so, what do you do?

Hmm how would one muscle into this gravy train?

Would like to know more... asking for a friend.

Getting into it is really easy. Building up a base of people to sell to is hard, and took me about 2 years before the money got good. But even during those two years, I was making enough to pay off the porn I was purchasing (monthly subs to websites), so it was still worth it.

I'm thinking of starting a porn studio on the side and selling vids through all the usual independent platforms.

I think it is doable since I have a few loose connections which may make finding talent and marketing possible.

I run a web development business beyond my regular job, which is also in development.

Do pretty well with it but have scaled way back. I did enough freelance last year to pay for my wedding and honey moon, and this year, I've only taken on two projects because I killed myself working last year. A couple years ago I probably could have quit my full time job to do it, but the insecurity would have driven me crazy, and I ended up getting a couple promotions at work so that wouldn't make sense now.

I invest, but I consider it to be more of a contingency for retirement as opposed to a side hustle.

Otherwise, I do moonlight consulting and I flip stuff that I scour via garage sales, antique stores, pawn shops, and the like. Kind of a joint hobby between the wife and I.

I want to get started investing, but no idea how.
You're in luck!

I do fluffy wedding design for a local starionary company. Its fun. My usual is gaming art, dark, or surreal stuff as a freelancer.

I love threads like this. So many interesting ways to make money without sitting in an office for 40 hours.

Well mine was a side hustle initially but it was always intended to eventually be my living... And it is really close to happening now, as it has overtaken my part time day job significantly.

I'm a composer! I write music for a few boutique exclusive music libraries. They tell me what kind of music they need, I write it, and they get it used in stuff. I've done it for TV shows for a couple years, and this year I've gotten with a couple publishers that do movie and game trailers. Last week I got like 2 seconds of music placed in the Blade Runner 2049 trailer - definitely my biggest one so far. But the bulk of my income is from TV shows like The Bachelor, Catfish, The Profit, and other reality/unscripted shows.

It'll definitely be my only source of income by this time next year. 😃

I was performing as a Indy professional wrestler for a while until late last year when I got injured. I didn't make much, $20-30 a show and I wrestled every Friday night and every other Saturday night. It seems good to have, but once you consider gas for the trip there and back which depends on its location and needing to eat I might be left with a few dollars or non at all. Sometimes I'd get there and the promoter would stiff ya claiming he would get you, "exposure"...whatever. That's part of the wrestling world I guess.

eBay

Anyone who needs an extra $500 or a grand a month can easily get on there and do it. If you actually decide to put time into it you can do much better than that.

It doesn't take too long to learn what to look for either. All you need is to find one nice t-shirt, hat or "do-dad" and you can turn $0.50 or a buck into hundreds. That isn't my bread and butter, that's the stuff that goes for around $30 or so, but I do have that happen multiple times a month.

Can you give a more specific example, hopefully without treading on your seller territory?

IMHO, it's generally not worth it unless either you are one of the performers, you can get friends/people to work for cheap, or you're doing a fetish that doesn't require penetration.

I have a small side business that is trucking along. I create software and systems for the financial sector, and my programs can range from 3500 all the way to 50000. I have several clients. I also offer some consulting work to them. Since it's generally low maintenance and I have a queue system I keep my full time work and save the side business money to eventually grow into something else, or every once in a while go on a trip (going to Punta Cana this weekend!) Whatever issues happens are small and not critical so I can take my time to finish this. I also offer maintenance yearly packages for some bucks depending on the software and this guarantees updates and support.

I want to get started investing, but no idea how.

Get a fidelity account. Fill out forms. Connect to your bank account. Dump money into account. If you're not interested in buying individual stocks, look into mutual funds and their performances. I suggest ones that track an index like the Nasdaq(FNCMX fund), I also suggest getting into medical stuff seeing as whatever happens with the healthcare effort over the next four years, medical companies will win(FSMEX).

Regardless of what you choose to do, don't put all your money in one place. If you're buying stocks, buy a lot of different stocks in different sectors. Mutual funds, buy several different funds.

Bought a house in 2014 in an up and coming suburb of Detroit which I now rent out for ~$400 profit each month.

Saved up my income from my first year of my career job out of college while living at my parents and bought a semi fixer upper for a great price while the market was still pretty down. The value of my property already went up by $60k since I got it and with all the renovations I did. It was definitely a lot of time, effort, and money I put into it (basically cleared out my bank account when I gave the down payment) but I'm glad now that my parents urged me into buying property. It's been basically self sustaining profits for me with little to no effort on my part. I have awesome tenants right now too, so it's been a breeze so far.
Mind if I ask what suburb?

You'd be surprised at the small engine (tillers, riding lawn mowers, etc) stuff people will literally give away just because they went to use it and it wouldn't start. Then you can turn around and sell it for a couple hundred or more.

How do you know what to look for, what to flip, what categories to target :S
PM me!

I play in a band. Granted, we've only been paid for three shows so far and made less than 500 bucks between the four of us, but you gotta start somewhere

I'm a full time English teacher in China.

I also have a part time job recording readings of scientific novelty articles for an advanced English study book. It pays 45$ hour, and is the easiest job I have had in a while.

Freelance writer and editor. I have a book coming out in 2019 (written as a sideline), I did a chapter for a book coming this year, single articles as I have time, and I write/edit/design documents for people. Primarily resumes and cover letters.

Edit: let me second ebay tho. We moved last month and I've made just under two grand in the last six weeks or so just unloading shit I don't need anymore. That's profit, after fees and shipping.

Bartending, I bartend for parties depending on how many people are here. I charge anywhere from $100-$300 if alcohol is provided already and $300-$500 if I have to provide the alcohol.

Also, anyone know where one could find work for an artist? Just commission type of work. I know someone who is very talented with pencil and can do amazing portraits.

I tried recently to sell phones on ebay. Swappa is better since you don't have to worry too much about scammers buying your items.

Neat! My uncle does this and it always seemed both very niche and yet always in demand. Have you tried your hand at video game music yet?

Well, there is the "Free Portrait Thread" which gets you noticed/makes you create tons of examples, and plenty of people seem to ask for/want portraits. I've posted mine from there on my twitter and in my art junk folder on FB for fun and it's gotten me a couple of random commissions. If it's just casual, your friend could simply build up a highly visible portfolio and people tend to ask. Sorry not to have a specific site to recommend, but that's how I get mine.

Yeah, I do some freelance writing. Income varies month to month as it all depends on the jobs I can get, but I say on average $150-200 a month on average. Used to make more years ago but it burned me out and I had to take a few years off from that, lol. Now I'm more picky about what I pick for writing jobs (instead of just choosing everything because of $$$), and I'm much happier for it lol. Also helps that I can work on the side job during my day job, unlike before when I worked in retail :p

Do you have any kind of guide to look at about flipping eBay stuff? I've always wanted to try it (since I like going Goodwill hunting), but I know games aren't always profitable and I really don't know where to start otherwise.
