Do you earn income on the side? If so, what do you do?

Have a couple Amazon affiliate sites that I'm building out. Hopefully in a year or two they'll be ranking high enough (along with more sites I'll build) to provide my basic income needs.
Working on a course for indie devs who want to start their own companies, too. If anyone has any thoughts on what that should entail, PM me 😉

I'm a teacher most of the year and an artist during summer. Art/animation used to be my main income, but found freelancing too stressful. Changed career, teaching is alright, summer gives me time to do art.
I'm thinking of becoming a teacher. I'm almost 30 and don't really have s career just a job that I don't enjoy and pays the bills.

I draw/paint for commissions and do 3D commissions too occasionally for side income (main job: 3D artist).

Also about $600-700 per year from investment dividends.. not nearly enough I suppose. Need to find better passive income lol

Making websites in my free time (legally, I started a business. No costs though). I don't ask a lot of money, but if I have a new client every month (or two customers every month), I've got a nice extra bonus on my paycheck.

It's not a lot of work either, since I use a CMS (templates, etc)

GF and I rent out our car a l lot via a local platform because we don't need most week days (commute by bicycle). Nets us €1000-€1500 a year I think.

As a student, I used to have a lot of small jobs on the side, tutoring, freelance writing, webcare and occasionally helping out in a hotel kitchen. Enjoyed how diverse it was but with a 40+ hour workweek I don't really see myself doing much else other then the regular job.

Work a full time office salary job. As well as a minimum wage part time gig in the evenings.

Rent and student loans are no joke, and if I hear millennials are lazy one more time I might lose it.

Trying to get into photography. Nothing paid yet, but hoping to change that

Yeah I also sell things on Gumtree/eBay.

Also, spend less - easiest way to generate more net income.

I wish it were legal to play poker online. Playing tight, online, given you have the time, it's hard to straight up lose your money. Let someone else play loose because they don't want to sit at the table and you can be okay.

The only real option now is the casino but everyone thinks they are in the fucking WSOP wearing headphones and sunglasses and shit. Corny, but I wish online poker was regulated and available.

I just finished replying to everyone, both those that asked me to message them in this thread and to those that sent me a PM.

Yeah you got me fairly interested if you are not tired of messaging everyone already I would like to know as well. I use to do a bit of selling on ebay, amazon when I first got out of high school, but it was mostly just video games I seen on sale then sold them on for like a 7-10$ profit once the sale ended to fund buying more games lol.

Most of my extra cash from selling my old shit on ebay, but I also manage to extract a bit of cash from the stock market here and there when trades seems super obvious. This is fun money investing that's seperate from my retirement-style investing that I am super conservative and don't mess around with.

I looked into doing online transcribing as a means to make extra money for my student loans, but I ultimately decided that I'd rather be playing video games in my spare time.

It seemed like a pretty decent gig if you really need the money, though. You only make minimum wage level money (and probably less than that), but you can work whenever and wherever you want, and you don't have to deal with other people at all. Plus, it seemed really easy, albeit dull. You just listen to a recording and type out what you hear.

Used to be eBay and Amazon, helping the parents sell clothes, children's books and collector stamps

Now it's writing but haven't made any money yet. Gotta get it wrote

We can do much better than $7-$10 profit!

Once a week I do a parts run(car parts) for my parents, nets me 50 eur for the day. So a total off 200 eur on top of my 500 eur or so salary from the primary job.

Some computer related stuff from time to time as well but that I don't count as it is too rarely.

I've considered that but I have a bad ear for accents (and in general), so that's probably not the best idea for me lol

When I'm not doing my IT job, I'm a musician. It can be rather lucrative depending on the time of year. Last December I made an extra $800 from gigs alone. As a singer, I certainly hate Christmas music. :(

Everytime I think of doing a side gig, I'm reminded that there's always overtime, and it will always pay better than any of them.

i may have a vague idea about what this is but shit i'm curious, could you shoot another PM?

I have an art sideline. I'll never be able to make a living full time from it, but doing that with work part time seems to be working out well, for the time being at least.

Well, there is the "Free Portrait Thread" which gets you noticed/makes you create tons of examples, and plenty of people seem to ask for/want portraits. I've posted mine from there on my twitter and in my art junk folder on FB for fun and it's gotten me a couple of random commissions. If it's just casual, your friend could simply build up a highly visible portfolio and people tend to ask. Sorry not to have a specific site to recommend, but that's how I get mine.

Will check it out! Thank you.

I'd be interested in hearing about this as well.

What's the typical time spent? Limiting factor for me is definitely time I have available, what with work and family and taking care of the damn house.

Everytime I think of doing a side gig, I'm reminded that there's always overtime, and it will always pay better than any of them.

Doesn't hurt to have something that's completely different to do for a change.

Huh I always thought those people were like super trained and had to audition.

Well no two ways about it, you gotta audition. They won't take just anyone. But if you can carry a tune well and can sight read, you're pretty much set. A majority of choirs will take a great singer who isn't super well trained. In every choir I've been in, about half of the members are not classically trained or able to read music well (though they also need to work twice as hard because of it). The ability to blend into a chorus is valued above all.

I speak only from experience in Oregon, though, which has three pretty big choruses in Eugene, Salem, and Portland. I've sang with all three, and the audition process was very lenient. If you step into a HUGE arts town like LA or New York, then the story changes and the large choruses hire people out rather than audition.

Did some SolidWorks design work for my friend's side business on the side.
Made a little bit 3D printing some prototypes for some local businesses.

It's legal in New Jersey.

I help DJ weddings and banquets. Very fun, as long as there are no crazy parents or serial terrible song requesters.

The latter is actually worse. Usually drunk off their ass guests. They almost always pick some garbage song that kills any dancing going on. After one horrible song we usually say we will play it later, there are other requests already, then never play it.
